No new appearances this chapter! It's still worth a read though, trust me.... it gets intense. actually it starts intense
A battle flung into the deep midnight was thick with the pelts and howling of fighting cats. All around them a sudden thunder crackled, and lightning struck an area dangerously close, causing crashing and creaking of trees and an immediate spark of furious fire. Falconstar whirled about with wild eyes, confused and disoriented, wondering how this chaos could possibly have ensued. Quickly the fire began to consume the clearing which contained every cat, and each pair of warriors began to break apart in terror at the new enemy in their midst. He heard first the painfully familiar cry of his mate, Beka, and then the squeal of his kit. A feeling of urgency and something unnamable but indescribably unbearable flooded his senses, his entire being, and he felt himself paralyzed. The fire began to draw closer, closer, licking at the grass and the retreating paws of the unrecognizable felines. ‘Water, water, water alone,’ Voices, murmuring quiety, like a sudden rush of a trickling stream, began to surround him and became all that he could hear. ‘Water alone can save the clan.’
~~~
Falconstar woke with a start, looking around his room almost blindly, expecting the complete darkness and yet the unsettling blaze of the fire to be all around him. After a moment of mild uncertainty at finding his surroundings to be totally different and then finally recognizing them, he felt his heart fill with such a relief that one would have thought his dream had been real, so strong was his consolation. He turned his head to find his mate and kit safe and sound; for a moment he had forgotten they were there. Beka had lifted her head, startled awake by Falconstar’s sudden movement, her eyes round and worried. Falconstar looked back at her, knowing he should offer an explanation, but in all honesty his first immediate response was an inner joy at her security, her life, her presence. He found himself smiling, his eyes sparkling, meanwhile Beka’s eyes only grew rounder with concern, for she thought her poor mate was finally going crazy from the stress of leadership. He let out a sigh and rested his head back upon the nest, curling his paw around his still sleeping kit. Beka did the same in turn and pressed her forehead to his once more, her eyes still searching. “Are you okay?” she whispered. “I am now,” Falconstar responded, then let out another sigh, “I had a nightmare.” Beka’s gaze softened a little and for a moment she closed her eyes. “I thought so. It must’ve been a rough one.” Her face lit with humor as she mewed, “that StarClan… can’t leave you alone in peace for one night.” “Yeah, they’re a bunch of jerks,” Falconstar muttered. A break in conversation filled the room with temporary silence. “It felt so real,” mewed Falconstar once more as he looked down upon his kit, still unsettled, “I feel like maybe it was.” “Maybe it was?” Beka echoed, opening her eyes again. “I think it was some sort of prophecy from StarClan. ‘Water alone can save our clan’ business.” His eyes narrowed in sudden unease as he recalled something within the dream, and he looked deeply into Beka’s eyes, willing her to be understanding. “You know how I’ve told you about that prophecy?” Beka nodded, her eyes crinkling into amusement. “Yes. I’ve heard it from you and basically everyone else.” Falconstar let himself smile, but then continued hesitantly, “...maybe… we’ve been wrong.” Beka’s expression appeared unchanging, though clearly she was now listening very intently. Falconstar continued, “I was totally powerless in the dream. There was nothing I could do. It was like I was outside of it, like I was just as vulnerable as everyone else and there was something else that needed to come to fix it.” Beka continued to look at him, her unconditional eyes glittering with uncertainty, and then he finished, “I don’t think the prophecy is about me.” There was a prolonging moment of silence that seemed to last forever, yet in reality only spent a couple seconds. Beka shuffled upright slightly, and bent over to lick his ear. “Let’s not think about it right now,” she murmured, the advice appearing innocent, like one a mother would give a kit after having a harmless dream that had unsettled it only a little. Yet obviously by the underlying tone there could be detected a command, a certain want of protection that held much importance. Something in her felt that she needed in her every power to shelter her mate at all costs. Then, as she brought herself to her paws and stretched, she mewed, “You have several new warriors that kept vigil all night. Why don’t you go down and relieve them?” “Good idea,” Falconstar murmured, then left his mate to tend to their kit as he made his way out of the den and climbed down to the camp clearing. Wokenight, Spruceroot, and Shinefly were all seated at the center, clearly struggling to keep awake; by the scattered dust and faint paw markings, Falconstar could tell that the young cats had probably been pacing for a while. They all lifted their heads rather enthusiastically as Falconstar called to them, “Did you keep the camp all safe?” “All safe and all sound,” Wokenight mewed, lifting her chin. “Yeah,” Shinefly murmured, “Y’know, except for that whole thing when some giant twolegs stomped on the medicine den and sent Spottedleaf right back to StarClan.” “Oh no,” Falconstar meowed, “I hope they give us a new medicine cat.” “Yes, it’s a big deal,” Shinefly replied, then began to break into laughter. Spruceroot walked up to Falconstar and by signal of tail took him aside, muttering, “Hey, uh, water alone to sa--” “What is it Spruceroot?” “Oh, well,” Spruceroot muttered, “yeah, uh, is there, like, anything in the warrior code that says you can’t change a warrior name?” “Depends”, Falconstar smiled, tipping his head to one side, “what name were you thinking?” “Sprucewing,” Spruceroot mewed. “Nope. My mind’s made up,” said Falconstar, walking away. Wokenight called out behind him. “Wait a minute!” Falconstar turned around, a vague smirk on his face, meowing, “What is it?” “Are we done with vigil or what?” At first the clan leader, of course, nearly replied ‘yes’ quite simply and would be on his way, but instead an idea popped into his mind. “I’ll tell you what,” said Falconstar, “I’ll let you in on a little treat. We don’t have to tell any of the senior warriors about this.” Spruceroot’s ears perked up, and spoke for all of the three as she said: “...I’m listening?”
Time for a new chapter owo
Falconstar had led the three warriors along with him outside of the camp and up a secret entrance until they had reached the top ledge in which they could look out and see the whole of UntoldClan. While they had a perfect view, the rest of the clan only saw brambles and ferns. “This,” mewed Falconstar, “Is phase one of our plan.” The warriors looked at him with a mixture of confusion and excitement, but they said nothing, eager to listen to see what Falconstar could possibly be up to. Then, abruptly, he lead them down the hidden pathway and brought them quietly back into camp, where he signaled to them with his tail to be very stealthy. Quickly the warriors could tell that he was inching toward the apprentice’s den. Something very elaborate was going on here. He turned to them just before entering and grinned. “This is phase two.” He shifted through the bramble overhangs protecting the den, and slunk along the side until he reached a very ginger apprentice’s nest. “Flamepaw,” He mewed almost inaudibly, his muzzle close to the apprentice’s ear to ensure that no one else could hear him. The apprentice twitched in her nest, murmuring things about tyranny and fire. For such unsettling topics, Falconstar seemed undisturbed. He pressed a paw to Flamepaw’s shoulder and began to shake her as silently as he could. Suddenly the apprentice jerked awake, though despite the sudden stir her eyes remained rather calm, yet penetrating. Then they widened as she realized it was Falconstar who had awoken her, and with his all his power to do so quietly. “What is it, minion?” Her high-pitched, yet comically growly voice cracked as she attempted a whisper. Flamepaw had more or less recently developed a questionable personality, to the point where Falconstar had been deeply concerned, and confided in her mother who had said that it was simply a phase. Sometimes he wondered if he should let his daughter play around her, but always shoved the thought away, knowing he had seen Flamepaw’s gentle and kind and good side before. Besides, she had never done any real harm. There was not much possibility that she ever would. He smiled at the apprentice and said softly, “I have a little plan I want to carry out with the new warriors, and I want you to help.” “I’m in,” squeak-growled Flamepaw, “Gingerpaw. Shall she join us?” “I don’t know if she could contribute much to our plan. She never speaks and hides in the corners. She would probably be uncomfortable with this conspicuous task,” Falconstar breathed. “Ah yes,” smiled Flamepaw, “I have trained her well in her ways.” Ignoring that incredibly vague and awkwardly sketchy statement, Falconstar beckoned her outside of the den and together they crept into the open camp, finding that dawn had not yet made its appearance, yet it was easy to tell that it would soon. “Flamepaw?” Wokenight queried, “Gee, Falconstar, you must have something really intense in store.” “We don’t have much time,” Falconstar murmured, smiling at his own mysteriousness, “I’ll tell you all about what I want you to do in just a minute. First, let’s get back to the ledge.”
~~~
The four had all gathered by now on the secret ledge and had discussed the entire plan. Each of their pelts were tingling with excitement. “A leader’s gotta have a little fun with his clan every now and then,” Falconstar purred. “Fun?” A sudden, unfamiliar voice broke out behind them. Every cat whipped around to find Gingerpaw padding up to meet them, her gaze curious. “She speaks!” Flamepaw hissed, “How dare. I commanded you against it!” “No you di-- shut up, Flamepaw,” Gingerpaw grunted, obviously sick of her sister’s shenanigans. Then she turned to look at Falconstar and the three new warriors. “What’s going on?” she mewed. “We were going to play a little prank on the clan. Now that you know, I guess you should be a part of it,” said Falconstar. “O-oh, I mean… You don’t hav--” “You’ll be the bait,” Falconstar broke in. “Ugh,” muttered Gingerpaw. While glancing hastily at the sky to check for the coming dawn, they quickly explained their plan - slightly revised considering their newest member - and began the execution. Wokenight, Spruceroot, and Shinefly all stood in their places at the center of camp, just as they had been found previously, and waited for the signal. “Twolegs! Attack!” yowled Flamepaw, whose unusual new accent made her sound just convincing enough to a camp that would be drowsy from sleep. The three new warriors began screaming and scuffling around vigorously, so that they created the effect of several cats in camp beginning to battle. Suddenly a piercing cry broke out midst their play-battle, and Flamepaw mewed, “Retreat, twolegs! The medicine cat from starclan is gone! We are victorious! All bend to our will! All bow down before us! Yes! Yeeees!” “That’s good enough, Flamepaw,” whispered Falconstar, trying to calm her down. Meanwhile all three warriors rushed to the source of the cry, Gingerpaw, who was acting as Spottedleaf. She had tumbled around in the dust, figuring her ginger pelt would be good cover for the impression of a wound, and the dirt would hide it better. “Spottedleaf, no!” the warriors cried, “no, stop! Stop floating into the sky! We beg you!” Immediately the real Spottedleaf burst outside of her den, her expression incredulous. The rest of the cats, now fully awake, rushed outside expecting evidence of a battle with twolegs, and a flying Spottedleaf. Yet they found neither. Soon every cat that had taken part in the plan began to burst into laughter, while the rest all finally realized that they had been pranked. Gingerpaw’s mentor Rainfrost, who had woken up a little later and was still rather groggy, noticed little Gingerpaw lying on the ground, then mewed, “Gee, I haven’t seen her in moons.” Then Falconstar wondered to himself how he ended up with such clanmates.
