Chapter One
The air was humid in the rain-forest as a tawny-pelted cat padded through the trees. The strange words she murmured were "Akil min dee velka yined." She repeated the strange sentence many times, but was suddenly interrupted by another voice.
"Ven?" The voice came from a grey cat, perched in a tree. The cat leapt down. "What is it, Ven, you're muttering about?" The grey cat looked worried as the tawny cat, Ven, looked up. Ven seemed shocked at the interference, and her tail was puffed up in fear. She unsheathed her claws very quickly, but then saw the cat. "Zeela!" the tawny cat exclaimed. "You scared me."
"Sorry, Ven." replied Zeela, the grey cat. "Anyway," Ven said. "I- I smelled a jaguar! That's what I was muttering about."
Zeela was shocked. "What?! We need to tell Kar-Zen." "Yes." They set off.

"What is it?"
A black cat, presumably Kar-Zen, drawled. He was lying in a tree, his legs hanging off the branch and his tail tucked around him. He seemed lazy and sarcastic, but also interested in the other cat's nervous expressions. He oozed off the branch and padded toward them. "Trouble?" As he asked, he flicked his tail in a sign that seemed to indicate that he was listening.
Ven didn't seem fazed by Kar-Zen's bored behavior. "I smelled a jaguar," she replied. "East border, half-way there. "Dah jem goin eln dejetil."
Kar-Zen seemed to understand this strange phrase. "I see.. Well, I'll send a patrol tommorow."
He padded away, tail lifted in the air.
