C H I Y O 's short story of Snowflowers parents inspired me to write this.
Death is just a roll in life.
The many experiences and problems you face, create the cat you are today. Now come closer, and listen to my story....
It was a bitter leaf bare when I came to the world. My mother, Snowbird, was in the nursery delivering me and my litter mates while a blizzard was outside. Nightkit was born first, then Icekit, me(Jadekit), and then Lavenderkit. It took only a moon for green cough to take my sister Lavenderkits life. As I grew up Snowbird told me how beautiful the grey she kit had been, as me and my surviving sister and brother were too young to remember.
Once me and my litter mates turned 6 moons, we understood the ways of Ravenclan. Our father, Blackfeather, was a respected warrior and so me and my siblings were famously known. Of course we became apprentices. Me to Dapplemoon, Nightpaw to Cottonleaf and Icepaw to the medicine cat. Ice paw trained along side another apprentice called Duskpaw, who quickly became Duskfern. Me and Nightpaw had big ambitions, yet it was clear that I had neither fighting nor hunting skills. My only gift was scenting things from a long distance. That was how I first met Volcano. He was only a moon older than me, and very handsome. It was love at first sight, and we frequently met up. However, a young warrior, Bloodmoon followed me one day and revealed my secret meetings to the clan. I was threatened to be held back and I was never to met with the tom again.
It was only by chance that I passed the warrior test and got my name. I felt like I had let Snowbird and Blackfeather down. I didn't know any herbs, and was a useless warrior. I was however, a very flirty she cat.
I mostly went on border patrols or helped the apprentices with their duties, and frankly, no one cared. In fact they seemed glad I wasn't on hunting patrols to mess up their catches. On one border patrol, I had stayed at the back and scented a cat. I was very excited I had smelled something the others hadn't and padded ahead. It took me to Volcano, and what happy cats we were. I stayed with him for a long time and visited him almost every morning before dawn patrol even awoke. At night I slept in the same nest as Redfeather, my closest friend. I knew he had eyes for Quietstream, but I just wanted to stay with someone. He was like an older brother to me, and I his young sister. He did not know about my meetings with Volcano, and neither did my newly named sister, Nightdapple.
Nightdapple was a curious cat, and she loved watching others in the dead of night, her black pelt making it hard to see her. In fact Blackfeather loves that too, so it was no surprise when they followed me one very early morning. I should of heard them...
On the trail to Volcano, there is a place where you have to pad very close to the gorge. My father and sister did not know until it was too late. I was too late when I ran to the edge and glanced down. All I could do was return to camp and pretend I was sleeping. I remember the morning clearly. Everyone was in a panick, and then when the two black cats were discovered dead, everyone became silent and sad.
You see, I caused this death. I should of seen it as a sign, but no. I was too foolish.
Grief soon killed my mother, the white she cat refusing to eat, too much in pain with both the loss of her mate and daughter. Me and Icestorm bared it as much as we could. But then I became too useless and Granitetooth and Warblerstar suggested I live as a queen. I continued to meet with Volcano, and soon I discovered I was carrying his kits.
A sunrises before my kits were born, Icestorm slipped into the creek and died. All my family was gone. No one was here any more.
I am still numb by all the deaths of my family, but you wouldn't think that would you? A smile is just a disguise, a laugh just a lie. After all, death is just a roll in life.
Death is just a roll in life.
