Quietpaw woke up in the apprentice den that was very familiar to her. She liked sleeping on the left side, near the entrance, but far enough away that she wouldn't be cold. She had been aware of both Redpaw and Bloodpaw's likings for her, but despised Bloodpaw with a burning passion. She noticed that they were still sleeping, and padded outside. Many warriors were around camp, and Stormstar was perched on Feather Rock. She had been an apprentice for about 6 moons now, and they were only a moon younger than her. She took a deep breath in and padded over to the warriors den. Her mentor was a cat named Berrydapple and she liked her a lot. "Berrydapple?" She asked. "Can we train?" She watched her mentors calico pelt shift as she sat up. "Of course!" She said, padding out into the clearing with seemingly endless energy, grabbing a vole. "Go ahead and grab a mouse and we can go train with full bellies." She said. Quietpaw reluctantly grabbed one, not sure if she should have. "It's okay." Stormdapple said. "Go ahead. We'll replace it in a bit." She said, scarfing it down and washing herself. Quietpaw stared at it, then returned it to the kill pile. "I'm ready." She said, and Berrydapple led her into the battle clearing.
A moon passed and Quietpaw soon became Quietstream. A few days later, Berrydapple became gravely ill and she sat with her as she said her last words. "Oh Quietstream." She said, her frail body no longer containing as much energy as it used to. "You were always like my little sister, even though I'm an old mousebrain." Quietstream shook her head. "You're not a mousebrain." She said. Berrydapple sighed. "It's my time." She said. Quietstream dipped her head as Berrydapple stopped moving and a tear rolled down her gray tabby fur. Blueflame, Quietstream's mother came in and sighed. "She was so old and fragile." She said, wrapping her tail around her kit. "I'm sorry." She said. "She was a good cat." Blueflame padded off, leaving Quietstream with her previous mentor.
