Disclaimer: I just noticed threads about an old cat game by the same name. This Nocturna is not the same one and we are not connected to that game in any way or form.
Introduction:
Hello there! My name’s Orientall, but you can just call me Ori or whatever else you may like. I’m one of the two current developers and admins of an upcoming 3D game called Nocturna. Although it seems like it, this isn't exactly an advertisement thread, but more of an interest check. Meaning we want people's opinions on what we have now and if it's something they'd enjoy. We have many solid ideas as to what we want to game to be, however we want to hear what you guys would like to see in it as well before getting started on development! We’re open to reasonable ideas and suggestions, however keep in mind that a lot of the ideas we’ve listed below are pretty solid and we rather not stray too far from what we’ve planned already. A lot of thought has been put into them and they fit within our vision for the game. However don't let this discourage you from still suggesting things!
Here’s a small list of suggestions we are not considering:
1. Markings. We can assure you that we have went through hundreds of cat photos and we can bet you that there aren't any markings we haven't seen or considered at this point.
2. Custom maps, markings, and presets. No there will not be map or preset making in Nocturna and that idea is never changing.
We have a feeling a lot of players will stray from
the semi-realistic look for the game and we really rather not have to go through the trouble of having to check everyone's preset before sending it out to the game. Plus there are hundreds of markings for you to choose from and you can layer markings. Presets arent really necessary.
3. Items. No there will not be any items in game either. We might consider allowing collars but at the moment our answer is no.
4. Genetically possible coats and colors only. Although we’re sticking with realistic colors for pelts and eyes, we rather not force players to have to play as genetic possible cats only. If you want your cats to be realistically accurate as possible that’s good for you! However we don't want to make the game any less fun for those who aren't as strict about genetics.
5. Players being able to give birth. Now at first this was an idea we were considering, however when it came down to figuring out how to implement it, many of those things would not have worked out so the idea was scratched off. If you want your cat to have kits, you’re just going to have to find players who are opened to making kitten characters for you.
Also please take note that we have not begun any sort of progress for the project aside from a WIP player model. So we’d prefer if you don’t ask questions as to when we think the game will be ready and the like ^^’ Also keep in mind that this is not a Warrior Cats game. We will not be adding features such as communicating with an afterlife, magical Moonstones and Moonpools, mentori and apprentice system, etc. Now that's out the way, here’s a brief run down of the game.
So the name of our game is Nocturna. It'll be a semi-realistic survival AMORPG(Animal Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) where you take the form of a feral cat in a mostly forested area after humans have evacuated and abandoned it during a major earthquake, which had destroyed half the city and major roads 30 years ago. There are a total of 8 main maps as well as mini-maps such as caves and transition maps. There will be herbs and plants that can be eaten to heal players or even harm them if your aren't too careful. Hunger, thirst, stamina and health bars will be present in game. Each account can only have 10 cats each, however we'll allow people to have up to three different accounts. Each cat has 9 lives each in total. Once your cat has died 9 times, then it's permanently gone from the game. There is no afterlife stage in this game.
You'll be able to customize your cat with a long range of customization options and markings. So far we have 250 markings listed, however there's still a lot more I haven't added in, so we might have something close to 300 markings. Although the number is still up in the air, at the moment you can have up to 15 markings on your cat and each marking layer will have it's own opacity slider. The markings are divided by: head, body, and tail markings similar to Feralheart; however there's no set amount you can add to each body part, so if you want to use 7 of your markings for your body and only 4 for the tail and head then you're free to! We're sticking with realistic pelt colors, however we'll offering saturation and shade sliders for more variety. Aside from that you're free to you're own creative devices! Want to make a black cat with white tabby stripes and blue eyes? Go for it! Also some features are un-editable after you first create your cat for reasons I'll state later.
After the creator is the skills page. There's your special skills and your main ones. They both will have their own groups and you'll be given a certain amount of skill points to distribute among the skills to your liking. There's a total of 9 special skills and 3 main ones. The main ones are your speed, strength and stamina. The special ones are Intimidation, Healing, Tracking, Stalking, Jumping, Climbing, Immunity, and Stealth. I'll post the chart the explains each one soon. You can not edit these skills once you finish creating your cat.
The game will have it's own time and aging system. 12 hours = 1 in game day, 1 week = 1/2 moon, 2 weeks = 1 moon, 6 weeks = 1 season. Each player's cat will age and grow every moon(month) in game. Kits are from 1-5 moons old, adolescents are 6-12 moons, adults are 1 year to 7 years and after is elders. There's no set time elders are to die, but each moon their health and stats decreases the longer they stay alive; meaning surviving gets harder as you grow older, especially if you're going solo without a Clowder(group).
There'll be hunting and fighting in game. We have a large list of different prey you can hunt. Pretty much all the prey will follow this system. You have to pay attention to the animations of the prey to determine what to do next. So for example, if the prey is not paying attention/busy eating then it's safe to crawl closer. Animals who are: standing on two legs, stopping what they're doing and seem stiff, are looking around, are aware of a predator's presence and are more flighty. It's best to either prowl through some tall grass, move at a slower pace, or stay still at this point. Some prey will be easier to catch than others of course.
With fighting, all players have a small list of moves. Paw swipe, double paw swipe, tackle, bite, bite-and-hold, scruff shake, and pin. The damage dealt is depended on two factors, them being the person's strength stat and the area you're struck in. The belly, ears, and throat are the more sensitive areas and they deduct your HP the most of you're hit in that area. The legs, flank and tail are the areas that deals you the least damage, while the face is in the middle. The amount of HP a cat have is depended on their age group and each moon you grow/age up, your max HP increases. So for example cats at 35 moons will have 340 HP, while say 10 moon cats only 120 HP. We haven't decided on the actual numbers just yet though.
With that in mind, time to go over the features you can’t edit once you first create you cat. Age and skills. This being that player's game play is influenced by these things. We want players to find ways to survive based on their limited skills and encourage players to form teams with other players varying in skills. It wouldn't really work out if players can just change their skills/HP at any given time and when it'll be beneficial.
Kinda takes the whole 'learn how to survive with your limited skills' aspect of the game out.
Lastly is groups, which is called Clowders in game. Anyone is free to make their own Clowders and can make their own custom ranks. Clowder owners will be able to assign moderators and admins of the groups, which will be able to add, remove, or ban members on their own. Each group will have a max of 30 members. Groups will be able to claim territory and add scent markers, however it's up to them to keep up with it. There's a limit on how much you can mark a day so it's advise you only claim as much territory as your numbers can handle.
We all have seen those groups on FH were there's hundreds of members but only 7 is ever online lmao
And with that concludes the thread! Of course not everything we have planned out is written here, because we’ll be here all day, so if there’s anything else you wanna hear about just ask here or PM me! We’ll be showing off some of our concept drawings and screenshots of the model soon, however keep in mind that our main focus at the moment is finalizing the ideas and knowing what directions the development is heading. I also have t wait till I get myself a new laptop because my current one is not really great at running Unreal Engine. So we won't have progress to always show you guys other than models and textures for a while. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a nice day!
Please excuse any typos in here. I do not have a keen eyes for catching mistakes haha
