No... Sunset Blaze decided. He figured that Dark Sun would probably turn him in for eavesdropping. Wait didn't he just say that he didn't care? How loyal is Dark Sun to ArcaneClan? Sunset Blaze examined the dark-pelted tom.
"Well, back to the initial topic. What were you on about? ArcaneClan, doomed? Ruined friendship? No mercy?!" Sunset Blaze questioned. Dark Sun sighed, seeming less tense than before. He had definitely calmed down from before and was more willing to speak about this.
"Fine," Dark Sun frowned, "Well, first question... ArcaneClan is doomed. Yeah, that's it. That's all there is to say. Alpine Echo is an incompetent leader,"
Dark Sun didn't respond to his comment. "Ruined friendship?... We're not talking about that,"
"We totally are," Sunset Blaze forced, "Why won't you elaborate on it? We were friends?! I'm hoping that reconnecting with old friends may help get my memories back,"
"Well, if you're hoping to use me as an outlet to have any memory recollection... I don't think that would work," Dark Sun rolled his eyes in response.
"What do you mean by that?" Sunset Blaze responded. He was curious as to what the dark tom meant. The two of them clearly had some sort of history. Then again, being around Moss Stone... or meeting Cameron... also didn't bring back anything. It was strange now that he thought about it. Was this how memory loss worked? He had to ask Misty Sun or Creek Song about that.
"Well..." Dark Sun started, "I don't think I'm the right cat for you to talk to,"
"You certainly look familiar to me," Sunset Blaze rolled his eyes, "Besides, talking to someone who I apparently hadn't seen in many moons gave me some bit of memory,"
"Wait, what?" Dark Sun jerked to look at him. There was some expression on his face that Sunset Blaze couldn't figure out. It looked like confusion, but it clearly wasn't. It was something else. Fear? Why would he be afraid though.
"Yeah I-" Sunset Blaze cut himself off, "Um, well, I met Whispering Night,"
"Oh," Dark Sun said, "You're lucky you came out without a scratch. I heard that the last time someone met him that he almost killed them"
"Really?" Sunset Blaze tilted his head, "Honestly, I'd believe it... Moss Stone had me approach him with her a bit ago. He was super weird then,"
"Oh dear. You do know Moss Stone and him were mates once, right?" Dark Sun told, "It's strange to see them not have the same closeness..."
"Why would you ditch your mate and leave the clan without her?" Sunset Blaze scoffed, "It doesn't make sense if you ask me. I don't even understand why Moss Stone even bothers with him still. It's very clear that she is actively trying to reach out to him,"
There was a strange softness in Dark Sun's grey eyes. He glanced away in thought.
"You're right about that..." He agreed, "I just never really thought twice about that sort of thing,"
"How did he even get his memories back?" Sunset Blaze asked suddenly. Dark Sun shrugged in response before thinking very deeply once more. It was clear he hadn't really come to a solid conclusion as time went on.
"I'm not sure," Dark Sun concluded, "He certainly got them back fast, though,"
"You're certainly no use for learning more about everything. I've already learned this information," Sunset Blaze groaned, "You're the heir, certainly you should know much more about what goes on in this clan? Or are you just absolutely clueless,"
Dark Sun flinched at those words. He seemed very caught off-guard too.
"Moving on. No mercy? ArcaneClan has terrible rules. They've been established for... Well, ages. I'm not sure who created them, but I know Alpine Echo didn't. It's... disgusting how he enforces them," Dark Sun continued. Something about the way he spoke changed a bit mid-sentence. The dark tom narrowed his dull grey eyes.
Dark Sun sighed, "I have duties I have to attend to now... It was nice chatting with you,"
Sunset Blaze watched the dark-colored tom leave. He had not a single question answered. There really is no information around here that he can acquire. No one knows a thing.
a. Go back to the Spirit-Talkers' den and talk to someone there b. Go back to the Spirit-Talkers' den and sleep c. SNEAK OUT OF CAMP WHAT COULD GO WRONG
Once again, we KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON
Btw I am still rewriting this as a fanfic/book as I do the CYOA. I'm not sure when I want to make a thread for it since it features a lot of story changes lol
Anyway I'll finally write the update later this week. Probably not today as I am busy. I'm doing absolutely awful at writing the new DL, if you want to know. Looking forward to sharing it when the cyoa finishes! If it does...
maybe in the sun you'll see formerly ginger/flame/mookie
What is with me and saying things about when I will do things but I never do them... I'm working on this year's planning and on when I want things finished. I'll keep you guys updated on what will happen with the CYOA with these plans! I'm trying to prioritise certain projects and this will be going along with that. I'm not planning on ending the CYOA anytime soon, don't worry!
maybe in the sun you'll see formerly ginger/flame/mookie
Sunset Blaze watched as Dark Sun scurried off in a hurry. He blinked and sighed, deciding to leave the heir alone. He never realized how exhausted he was until he spent longer than a second not engaging in a conversation or doing some sort of work. He felt heavy and like he was falling down into the ground and then absorbed by it. It was either the fact he had just woken up after fighting, or he just seriously was drained from all that had been going on. It didn't help that the hot air from aboveground was coming through the entryway into the camp.
Sunset Blaze decided to lay down and take a rest. After all, he didn't want to be exhausted when Misty Sun scolds him for not resting. Unfortunately for him, he was met with a glare by Misty Sun when he entered the cave. Or, fortunately… As that was all he had received once Misty Sun was aware of his presence.
"Creek Song, help me apply marigold and quick. I smell infection," Sunset Blaze heard. He angled his head over to see who the two spirit-talkers were treating. It was a bright red tom. Swift Flame… He turned away not wanting to look.
Sunset Blaze plopped down in the comfortable, dock-lined nest and shut his eyes…
…
…
…
Sunset Blaze…
"Sunset Blaze!" A voice whispered into his ear. It sounded young?… But familiar? Something was something prodding him. He didn't realize he had his eyes shut. He opened them. There was a dark, young tom with silver eyes looking right at him with a toothy grin. He looked like he was planning to commit many war crimes.
"Oh my spirits. That took forever to wake you up. Like about fifty pawsteps," He whispered with a grumble, "Wanna sneak out?"
"Sneak… Out?" Sunset Blaze echoed. Was he dreaming? Or was what was before just a dream? What even was reality??
"Sneak out. I'm sick and tiireeedd of all of these duties," The tom groaned. Duties? "It would be fun,"
"Isn't it… Night?" Sunset Blaze guessed. He had no idea how time worked.
The tom snickered, "Exactly. We wouldn't get caught leaving camp. Besides, I know a super secret way to get out,"
"A… Super secret way out?" Sunset Blaze echoed, again.
"You keep repeating my words," The tom squinted his silver eyes. Silver… Eyes?… Sunset Blaze found himself being dragged off with the tom against his will. Eventually, Sunset Blaze caved. The two toms walked through the dimly lit tunnels. The way the crystals glowed always fascinated Sunset Blaze. If he wasn't careful, he found himself gazing at the almost ethereal or otherworldly glow that was emitted. Sunset Blaze quickly turned away to focus on following and only that.
The tunnel opened up to the main ArcaneClan camp. It looked the same as usual. Sunset Blaze heard the dark tom hiss something to him, but he barely could make it out. He felt himself get shoved to the side and behind a couple of stalagmites protruding from the ground. Sunset Blaze heard movement and so he curiously peaked through a crevice between two of the stalagmites.
He saw a silver tabby cat pacing around the camp… One who he didn't seem to recognize? The cat looked vaguely similar to Ice Mountain, although much fluffier. And over by the main entrance was a dark brown cat standing guard. He also couldn't recognize that cat… I swear I should recognize those two. Sunset Blaze had met just about every cat in ArcaneClan at this point.
"Two cats are out there? I can't recognize them…" Sunset Blaze uttered. The dark apprentice glanced over at him, the apprentice's head was now tilting with wonder.
"Two?" The dark tom repeated with confusion. Sunset Blaze strangely had expected him to comment on the fact he could barely recognize them… But this was good enough. Sunset Blaze pointed his tail at the pacing cat and then the guard,
"Two. A light silver cat pacing and a dark brown cat standing guard,” Sunset Blaze said.
There was a deafening silence. Sunset Blaze turned over to look at the dark tom that was crouched beside him. The tom trembled, returning the gaze. His face darkened as he stood up, silently gesturing for Sunset Blaze to follow with his tail. Sunset Blaze didn’t say a word in response and followed behind carefully. His eyes followed the brown cat keeping guard and watch of the camp.
The two were heading towards the Spirit-talkers' cave. Something didn't sit right with him. Sunset Blaze quickly shoved that aside and kept close to the young apprentice. They entered the cave.
The tom's voice was low, but noticeably shaky, "We must be quiet, Misty Sun may hear us…"
Sunset Blaze nodded and started forward with him. There was no one in the cave, although it smelled like there had been an influx of patients at some point. Mostly of blood… And it reeked of death. Sunset Blaze felt a chill when that scent hit his nose, but he quickly shoved it aside to follow the apprentice. That was when he realized where they were going. The secret tunnel between GladeClan and ArcaneClan.
The two cats slipped through the rocks that hid the tunnel well. It was tight at the beginning, although noticeably wider than Sunset Blaze remembered it to be. Was he… Smaller? In this dream? He thought, realizing that it wasn't just the tunnels that were bigger, but the camp was slightly larger than he remembered as well. This realization didn't help distract him from his major worry… Was he about to have a run in with GladeClan? He didn't recall a cat that looked suspiciously like Dark Sun being apart or GladeClan. It probably was Dark Sun that he was with. But… Why was he with the heir of ArcaneClan? Our friendship. Our ruined friendship. What had he meant?
They made it to the other side of the tunnel to see… Nothing. Well, a forest and a sandy clearing for sure. There were no cats. No dens. No possible sign of this clearing ever having had a clan live in it.
"The secret way out," Dark Sun - at this point he figured - announced, although with much less enthusiasm than before. Sunset Blaze nodded, gazing out at what would be GladeClan's camp. It was a very nice place Sunset Blaze had to admit.
"Come on! I know many cool locations out here," Dark Sun pointed with his tail and started off, again without waiting for Sunset Blaze's input. Sunset Blaze followed along anyway. Dark Sun turned to look back at Sunset Blaze, “We don’t get to explore these parts of the woods, but I know my way around here!”
“Why not?” Sunset Blaze tilted his head, “Is this not a part of ArcaneClan…” Until GladeClan took this place? He questioned.
“Uhm… Shouldn’t you know this? Nevermind… Loners,” Dark Sun answered, “At least I think…”
Sunset Blaze furrowed his brows, glancing around. Now that he thought about it, there were scents of other cats. But… As far as he knew, GladeClan was the only thing that lived around here. Unless it was made up from the loners that took this place. That gave him the question, Why was Misty Sun conversing with loners behind Alpine Echo’s back? Sunset Blaze shook his head. This was only a dream, right?
“We have more numbers, so it feels more like Alpine Echo doesn’t want to bother them. Maybe,” Dark Sun hummed, “I do know that this place has been described as a sacred land of some sort by both Misty Sun and Alpine Echo. I probably shouldn’t have said that,”
“A sacred land?” Sunset Blaze frowned, “What does that mean?”
“I wish I had the answers. Maybe… It’s that this is the home of a spirit of revenge and malice that apparently hates the clans or something. I’m not sure. Alpine Echo didn’t let me hear the entire story saying it was just a story and I shouldn’t fill my head with stories and myths,” Dark Sun explained, “But it is… just a nursery tale to keep kits from wandering too far, though,”
Sunset Blaze nodded along to what he said. The forest around him looked much different than he could recall. Despite it being night, there were so many floral blooms. The flowers glittered and sparkled, dust danced out from within the blossoms as he brushed against each flower. It felt like the forest was much more alive. But maybe it wasn't.
Dark Sun stopped, gazing out across the way. There was darkness on the other side.
"We are at the border now," Dark Sun turned to look at Sunset Blaze, "We shouldn't go into our territory. There are many patrols out right now,"
"Huh? Why so many patrols?" Sunset Blaze blinked. The camp was nearly empty, except for those that kept watch. It was night so he didn't think much of it, but… What was going on?
"You don't remember?" Dark Sun turned sharply to look at him. His face twitched with confusion and fear. You don't remember?
"I will make sure you forget."
"I-" Sunset Blaze opened his mouth. "You will forget everything, Sunset Blaze."
"Who I am."
"Who we are."
"What we are planning."
"You can't save him, Sunset Blaze."
"No, sorry," Sunset Blaze apologized, distracted by movement behind Dark Sun and the strange voices. He swore he saw something or someone white move behind him. Was the figure white? It disappeared.
Dark Sun was stunned and confused by Sunset Blaze’s response, "It was huge? R-Rain Heart rallied cats to oppose Alpine Echo,"
"Rain Heart…" Sunset Blaze echoed quietly in thought. He vaguely recognized that name, but only vaguely. How had he not heard of this cat before? This was surely all just a dream, right?
"That happened a while ago, let’s talk about something else," Dark Sun turned away and started in a different direction. Sunset Blaze recognized where they were going, sort of. The forest got darker the further they moved. Sunset Blaze saw that as time went on, light was also dimming from the surroundings. They were nearing the mountains that lay eastward of GladeClan. Well, since GladeClan didn’t exist… just eastward of these parts of the forest.
Sunset Blaze didn't realize the passing of time until he saw the slightest of light shed down. The pathway that laid before them was a blazing golden color from the bright sun that was peering over the horizon and through the trees. The stars in the sky were closing their eyes to rest, being enveloped in the gold-blue hues of daylight. Where the light hit from the sky, there were flowers that broke up the vibrant green grass with more color. He stopped when he saw the cave on the other side of the path. There was no fog. There was no smoke. Only the bright rays of the rising sun took hold of his gaze.
All was silent.
Dark Sun was further up ahead with a spring in his step. He suddenly halted when he noticed the disappearance of Sunset Blaze beside him and glanced behind. His head tipped as he bounded back over.
"What's wrong?" Dark Sun asked, “You’ve been acting weird. Are you feeling well?”
"It's quiet. Too quiet," Sunset Blaze replied with a hush. There were no birds in the sky, nor was there the birdsong announcing the new day. Bugs did not chirp or make a sound. There was nothing. He kept finding himself looking back over at the cave. The cave surrounded by blooming lilies and azalea shrubs. Two golden eyes peered from within.
"Let's head back the other way," Sunset Blaze suggested, "I'm sure there are other interesting places or we could catch something for a snack,"
"Alright, but that cave is super cool," Dark Sun started backwards. Sunset Blaze trailed behind him. He slowly turned away from the cave's mouth. The gold light reached the sides of the trees. It was much brighter now. The branches above them swayed slightly in the wind. Sunset Blaze felt his whiskers get tickled by this gentle breeze.
There was finally a sound. Sunset Blaze glanced around in his spot, wary of what was possibly there. Dark Sun also heard and inched closer to Sunset Blaze. There was something out there and neither of them could tell what…
Until there was a blur. A large, tan-colored feline emerged from the shrubbery. A…Large… cat!? Its tan-colored paws were outstretched, reaching for Dark Sun. Sunset Blaze snapped at the cougar to get it to back off for a moment. Sunset Blaze landed over at Dark Sun. He was frozen with fear, and there was no way to get any sort of help from him.
