Prologue

The cat stood at the entrance of the cave, waiting. Her icy blue eyes scanned her surroundings. At her side was a young cat, little more than a kit, huddled close. She shivered from the cold as a wind began to blow. Then, she went back to looking around in the dark. “Hello Snowberry.” Said a voice from the woods. Snowberry saw a tawny tom walking towards her. “Greetings Tawnysprout.” She replied. The cat by her side shivered and said “Hello Tawnysprout. It sure is cold!” “Yes Fidgetpaw, it is.” Said Tawnysprout. At that moment, more cats came out of the forest. “Smokeleaf, Goldenpaw, Alderpelt, Brightpaw. Now we are all here. Let’s not wait any longer. Come.” Then Snowberry turned and walked into the cave. The others followed.

Snowberry opened her eyes and looked around. She saw a warm forest with a sky filled with stars above the trees. Fidgetpaw was beside her, and a little further away, the medicine cats of the other clans were beginning to stand. Fidgitpaw looked around in amazement. “Wow, this is StarClan territory!” She purred as she looked at him. It was his first time coming here, and he was more excited than most. Then, she saw a calico she cat with amber eyes. She was no bigger than a kit, and her fur glowed with the light of the stars. “Pouncekit! Oh, I miss you my sister! You look well.” “Same for you.” Pouncekit replied. Snowberry looked around. Then, her mentor Spottedflower’s voice came from behind her. “It has been a while. Greetings.” Snowberry dipped her head. “Greetings.” She said. All around her cats were seeing their lost loved ones. “Now, we have a message for you.” Said Spottedflower. “All of you!” Said Pouncekit. In unison, the cats said “You must find the birds of water, wind, earth, and fire, or none of the clans can survive. But before they can fly, the mist must wash away the darkness.” All the cats were shocked. Birds? What were they talking about? “Now you must go.” Said a black and white she cat. “Don’t forget what we have told you.” Then Snowberry woke up.

Chapter 1
“Come on Mistykit! Let’s play moss ball!” Dawnkit’s mew broke her focus. Mistykit opened her eyes. The bubble of water floating in front of her popped. “Why now? The snow is too deep!” Mistykit responded. She jumped off the rock and landed in the snow. She took a few short steps to demonstrate. The snow was almost up to her belly, and she was four moons old! Five moons tomorrow. “Can’t someone make the snow all hard like last time?” Came Bouncekit’s unhappy mew. “Almost all of them are on patrol, but you can ask Mama.” Mistykit said. “Great idea! Mama!” Bouncekit said. Dawnkit joined in. “Mama! Mama!” Mistykit smiled as the chanted. Sometimes they seemed younger than they were. She leaped back on the rock. While they were getting Mama to make the snow hard, she could try to see if she could also lift snow. She smiled at the thought of having a snowball fight with her siblings. Leaf-bare is fun!
Sparkpaw crept through the deep snow. Not making any noise except the soft sound of her breath. Behind her, her mentor Wildcry watched as she stalked. “Very good Sparkpaw. Now let’s see your pounce.” Wildcry said. “Okay!” Sparkpaw responded happily. She was going to be an amazing warrior! It was her dream to be deputy like her mother. Then, she will become the best leader ever! A noise brought her back to reality. “Sparkpaw, I still haven’t seen you pounce.” Sparkpaw sighed, then she began to prepare to pounce. She did it once and managed not to land face first in the snow. “Nice. We can go hunting now.” Sparkpaw felt a little spark of happiness in her. It was time to hunt!

Chapter 2
Owlpool tasted the air. There was nothing except for the smell of the cold making her nose freeze. She looked at her clanmates, Mossylog and Pebbleflash. They were supposed to be hunting, but there was nothing to hunt. All the prey was hiding away in their little holes. “I wish we had something to bring back.” Mossylog said. She moved around in the snow. “Should we try to create an earthquake?” Owlpool suggested. That always scared the prey out of their dens. “Sure!” Pebbleflash responded. The tree cats focused and tried to make the ground slightly shake, just enough to make the prey come running out of their dens. Normally, plenty of prey came running out, but today, in the cold of leaf-bare, only a few scrawny mice scrambled out. After making the catch, Pebbleflash turned to Mossylog. “Leafbare is almost over. We should be getting more than this.” Mossylog flicked him with the tip of her tail. “Leaf-bare is always hard from start to end. At least it was three mice and not one.” Owlpool sighed. It was obvious in the way that Mossylog spoke to Pebbleflash that she was in love. Pebbleflash was in love too. Owlpool closed her eyes. “I know I am in love too, but I will not let my heart be broken. What can I do?” “What are you mumbling about?” Mossylog said, bringing her back to reality. “N-nothing.” Owlpool replied. “Let’s get back to camp. Something tells me that this is all we will catch today.” Pebbleflash said. Owlpool nodded in agreement. Then the three cats turned and walked to camp.
Tawnysprout looked around his den. Only a few herbs remained good, the rest black from the frost. In the back of the den against the wall of the sandy hollow, Crowthorn lay in a nest of soft moss, his body limp. His breathing was ragged, his pelt mangled. Scratches were covered in poultices that were beginning to become crusty. In the quarter moon after the medicine cats received the prophcy, a hungry badger attacked the camp. One warrior, Cloudnose, was lost. Many had wounds after, but not as bad as Crowthorn’s. As soon as Cloudnose was tossed away by the badger, dead, Crowthorn went in to avenge his brother. He fought until the badger surrendered but collapsed from his wounds afterwards. Now, a day from the gathering, his wounds were only a bit better, if not as bad as before. As much as he hated to do this, he woke Crowthorn. “Come on, let’s check your wounds. I need to change the poultices.” Crowthorn didn’t move at first, then he slowly lifted his head. “Do whatever you have to do. I want to be with Eaglecall soon again.” Tawnysprout sighed. The tom was in such deep love with Eaglecall, it might be the only reason that he was still hanging on to life. He bet that Eaglecall liked him too, although she never admitted it. After treating Crowthorn’s wounds, Tawnysprout went and lay down in his nest. He could get a few moments of rest before Skybreeze, Eaglecall, Hawktalon, and Milkysplash came to have their wounds checked. “I already had the prophecy to figure out. Now I have to be Crowthorn’s only hope to survival. Why StarClan? Why?”

Chapter 3
Finchtail lay in the nursery. She was bored. She knew her kits were coming soon, but she wished she could feel the rush of the wind against her fur instead of the soft moss of her nest all day and night. She heard Stormstar’s call for the clan to assemble. Probably for the gathering. She remembered going to the gathering, talking to her mate Oakbranch. Those were her few stolen moments with him. The apprentices always waited with bated breath hoping they would be chosen. The warriors looked forwards to the time they would see their friends from across the borders. She wanted to be back there. She listened to the names being called. “Today these cats will go to the gathering. Flameflower, Smokeleaf, Goldenpaw, Wildcry, Whitespring, Ravenfeather, Sparkpaw and Flickerpaw. We will leave at dusk.” She heard the apprentices chatting excitedly. It wasn’t so long ago that she was an apprentice. She became a queen only four seasons after becoming a warrior. One thing now worried her. She was going to have her kits soon, at any moment even, but there were no medicine cats left at the camp.
Starlingsong smiled as she walked through the woods. Shadowstar, Foglily, Snowberry, Fidgitpaw, Rushstep and Darkclaw were by her side. It had only been three quarter moons since she became a warrior, and she felt a rush of excitement to be introduces as a full warrior to the clans. As they walked the path along the stream, she saw the raised stone path up ahead, leading away from the stream. The stream was the path for WaterClan warriors, the stone path being for EarthClan. For FireClan it was a scorched path through the woods, and for WindClan it was a simple path through a medow, open to the wind and sky. When all of them were in sight, it mean that they were almost there. And there it was. A great cedar tree, the tallest in the woods, with cats gathered beneath it. Around the tree there was nothing but a clearing, full of moss and a few sprouts of marigold, now covered by the snow. WaterClan seemed to be the last clan to arrive. The rest were all there. The strong EarthClan warriors, the small and light WindClan warriors, and the quick footed and agile FireClan warriors. As the clans began to share their news, the gathering began.

Chapter 4
Sparkpaw was full of excitement. Her first gathering, and it was within a moon of her becoming an apprentice! “The gathering shall now begin!” Came the yowl of Shadowstar, her tabby fur shining in the moonlight, the dark patches like shadows over her pelt. “May I go first?” Silverstar asked nervously. “Go ahead.” Shadowstar replied. Silverstar began “It has been a hard moon for WindClan. Recently we have had a badger attack. Many were injured, and we lost one warrior, Cloudnose. Crowthorn has been injured quite badly, and Tawnysprout is staying back at camp to take care of him.” “Now it is my turn, if you do not mind.” Shadowstar said. “Despite the cold weather, WaterClan is doing well. Prey is running well for leaf-bare, and we have two new warriors! Darkclaw and Starlingsong!” “Darkclaw! Starlingsong!” the cats chanted. “That is all I have to say. Would you like to go next, Sagestar?” Shadowstar said. Sagestar opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by a cat who ran into the clearing. It was Tigerpelt. “What are you doing here Tigerpelt?!” Stormstar said. Tigerpelt panted for a little while, the said. “It’s Finchtail! I think she is having her kits!”
Finchtail groaned. The waves of pain crashing through her body were like nothing she had ever felt before. She tried not to yowl in pain but was failing. She thought that her cries could be heard to the gathering tree and back. “Oh, why couldn’t a medicine cat stay here?” She said. “Why did I have kits so soon. I should have waited twelve seasons instead of eight seasons after being an apprentice to have my kits. Maybe then it wouldn’t hurt so much.” Tigerpelt wasn’t back yet, and if he didn’t get back soon, she would have to give birth on her own. She looked down and saw that the moss around her was slightly red. More was turning red as she felt spasm after spasm in her body. Then, she picked up a scent. “Oakbranch?” She muttered to tiered to call a greeting. Oakbranch raced in holding a stick as Smokeleaf ran in. Goldenpaw was right behind her, carrying some herbs. “Hold this stick in your mouth. Stay awake. Smokeleaf and Goldenpaw will do what the can.” Oakbranch said. “Soon you and I will have kits to love.” He said before Smokeleaf and Goldenpaw took over. “A kit is sideways. It is pretty big. Try not to move.” Smokeleaf said calmly. “How can I move? It hurts too much!” Finchtail thought. Soon, Finchtail felt a sharp pain. She bit down so hard on the stick that it splintered. Pain floded through her. Then, it left. “Look Finchtail! We have a beautiful kit.” Oakbranch said. “It’s a she cat.” Smokeleaf said softly. Finchtail bent over and licked the little kit to get it’s fur all fluffy. “What shall we call it?” Finchtail asked. “I think that it should have your name.” Oakbranch responded. “Our little Finchkit. She is a small version of you.” “I know. She is perfect. Is that all?” Finchtail said softly. Smokeleaf looked at Goldenpaw. “Yes that is all.” Goldenpaw said. The kit began to mew softly. “Come here little one, have some milk.” Finchtail whispered. “Are you okay?” Goldenpaw asked. “Just a bit dizzy.” Finchtail responded. That was a bit of a lie. She was really dizzy, but she didn’t want that to ruin her moment. Smokeleaf looked concerned. “Can I check you over. You don’t look to good.” Finchtail began to feel weak. “I might not be here for much longer.” She whispered. “She’s lost too much blood!” Goldenpaw said. “Is there anything you can do to help her?” Oakbranch said. “I am sorry, I do not.” Smokeleaf said. Finchtail’s vision began to fade. “Oakbranch, I will always love you. I will always love Finchkit to. I will watch over you from the stars. Remember my love for you.” Finchtail said. Then, everything went black.

;-; ... anyone else getting slight flashbacks to the end of power of three. Finchtail was a bird name and the prophecy said we needed "birds" from each clan, but then that bird died. Shortly before/after she died tho ANOTHER bird (finchkit) was born. much like how hollyleaf died, and then dovekit was born (...ironically, dovekit is also a bird name lol) just found that funny XD poor finchkit tho, she don't even get to know what her mother looks like ;-;

Chapter 5
“She is gone!” Oakbranch cried. Finchkit, still cuddled in her Mama’s fur, tried to snuggle closer. “She is really gone forever.” “She said she would always watch over you. Finchtail was the kind of cat that always kept her promises.” Smokeleaf said. Oakbranch didn’t seem to hear. All he did was take the kit from his mate’s fur and cuddle it close. “Oakbranch, would you like to take Finchkit to your clan?” Smokeleaf whispered. Oakbranch licked Finchkit, then said “No. She should be here, where her mother lived. She is meant to be here. I know it. I will always love her. I just feel like I am betraying Finchtail if I take her away.” “I understand.” Said Goldenpaw. “It hurts to lose someone you love. You always want to make sure that they are still loving you. She is in StarClan now. She will watch over you until you join her.” Smokeleaf thought for a minute, then said “Wise words Goldenpaw. Finchkit can stay with Squirrelbreeze. She will be loved.”
Mistykit looked around the camp. The snow was all gone. It had been half a moon since the interrupted gathering. Half a moon since Finchtail’s death. Tonight, the medicine cats were going to the half moon meeting. Although she didn’t want to be a medicine cat, she wondered what it was like to communicate with StarClan. “Mistykit, can you play moss ball with us?” came Dawnkit’s voice. “Sure!” Mistykit replied. She would do anything to get rid of the thought. Plus, moss ball was fun when the snow wasn’t up to your belly. Bouncekit grabbed the moss ball and ran. “I’m gonna get you Bouncekit!” Dawnkit said as she chased after Bouncekit. “Yeah!” Mistykit called as she splashed the water around her. It launched at Bouncekit. “You think you can pull that trick again.” Bouncekit shouted before leaping and landing in a puddle with a splash. Drops of water flew at Dawnkit and Mistykit. “Wow, when did you learn that!?” Dawnkit said. “Oh, it was just something that Starlingsong taught me. She is a great teacher!” Bouncekit exclaimed. Mistykit thought for a moment. It was no secret that Starlingsong and Bouncekit spent a lot of time together. They were basically best friends. They were only seven moons apart after all. But could it be possible that to Starlingsong that Bouncekit could be more than a friend? And maybe the same to Bouncekit? At least Mistykit’s apprentice training would start in a bit. Then she wouldn’t have to go crazy thinking about crazy things and think about training like any apprentice.

Sorry for not posting for so long. I've been really busy.
