I am a college graduate! I graduated yesterday, after nearly 5 years of studying so hard. Started all the way back at a community college in August 2016, transferred to a university (Tennessee Tech) in 2018, switched my major in the summer of 2019, and now as of May 7th, 2021 I am finally finished with my undergraduate degree in Accounting!
It took a lot to get here including carrying 18 semester hours (6 college classes) every semester since Spring 2020. For those not in college, that is a heavy course load! I also took a summer class every year except for 2018, since that was when I switched to university. So, in 2017, 2019, and 2020 I was taking classes between June and August. I also got to experience college life before the pandemic, to everything moving online and shutting down in Spring of 2020, and then opening back up with a mask mandate around campus for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.
Not only did my college experience include the pandemic, but my college town also was tragically hit by a F4 tornado in March 2020. I was narrowly missed myself by that. This tornado's path was hardly a mile from my apartment. If it were any closer, my life might be very different right now. That tornado killed 11 people in my town alone and more than 20 in the state of Tennessee. I'm not sure why I was spared when many others in my college lost their homes and even family members. I just know that I am extremely blessed by that, and also that there must be a greater plan out there that doesn't end with a tornado.
Regardless all the changes, I am finally done. However, I definitely could not have gotten here if it weren't for my family, my awesome boyfriend and his family, and all my friends supporting me along the way. You guys are included in this group. This forum has been part of my life for so long. I was 14 when I joined the forum in October 2011, and I will be turning 24 in about five more months. I wouldn't be who I am if it weren't for this forum. Thank you guys for that. If it weren't for you, the forum wouldn't be what it is. Thanks for being the best online community I could ever ask for!
I want to end the post with this:
It's me wearing my cap and gown and holding the cover for my diploma!
You can watch the video of me walking across the stage if you wish. Timestamp is 1:26:20.
