I ban you bc yeah XD
In other news, I'm going to the coast with my family from the 26th to the 30th, so pretty excited about that
Oh, and my mom's car has been misfiring(usually feels like random shuddering that is often rhythmic, and shows up in the RPM gauge as random movements in the needle due to what I believe is the crankshaft having to temporarily work harder to turn without the help of combustion, then kinda like if you're pushing against something and when it finally comes loose, you fall over, the crankshaft is giving extra force to turn that it doesn't need, causing the extreme speed up until it realizes it doesn't need that much force anymore) for about a week(obviously not recommended, but between me and my dad, we made sure it wasn't dangerous to drive for the vehicle and other vehicles on the road, and to limit driving whenever possible, not sit idling for super long, etc) and it was caused by bad sparkplugs
So quick engine tech info: in order to light the fuel mixture in the engine, you use a spark plug, which is basically a positive terminal, then a ground strap that is a very specific distance away from the positive terminal, then using the power from the ignition coil/s, the spark jumps the gap, creating the spark to ignite the mixture. One of the things that can happen as plugs age is the positive terminal wears down and increases the gap, making the spark work harder and harder to jump the gap, or stop jumping altogether, causing ignition to behave abnormally. For the Equinox, the plug gap needs to be .060 inches, but was instead .080 inches, which while that's hardly anything in regular measurements, it's way too separated for the plugs to operate correctly.

I ban you because sounds like fun! I'll be going on vacation to the beach in May. May 18th-25th. Definitely looking forward to it.
That's a yikes about your mom's car. Wasn't it the one that was in the shop a while ago?

I ban you bc yeah, thankfully it was stuff my dad and I could do this time. Replaced the intake gaskets(they've been leaking) and spark plugs and it runs normal again

I ban you because that's good at least.
I took my car to get it inspected on Friday. I wanted to get that done before I drove it 1000 miles to the beach and back (500 one way). They said everything was good for the trip, but they found some minor things to get taken care of after the vacation. They found cracks (not deep) in the belt, and they gave me some codes for the evap system (?). I couldn't fully understand their explanation on that part. I don't know much about cars. xD The codes they gave were p0420, p0442, and p0440.

I ban you bc according to Google(since codes vary between manufacturers and I have mostly Chevys) p0420 - Catalytic converter efficiency Basically, your vehicle uses things called O2 sensors to see the amount of air flowing through your exhaust, and based on the amount of air, it can tell how much other stuff is also flowing through. Your vehicle is constantly adjusting the fuel up and down and the O2 sensors are monitoring that to make sure it matches what you're requesting of it. Something that is also done by the O2 sensors is monitoring O2 before and after the Catalytic converter, whose job it is to store oxygen and heat up toxins coming out of your engine, adding and removing oxygen respectively, since combusting creates Co(carbon monoxide), C(carbon), and Nox(nitrous oxides) with are all harmful. So the cat uses stored oxygen to turn it into CO2, H20, HC(Hydrocarbons, aka unburned fuel) and other things. I think it tests cat efficiency by seeing how much oxygen is removed from the reading after the cat to see how much oxygen it stores? Now cats lose efficiency if there's been a misfire, one of the reasons I was hesitant to drive my mom's car much, because fuel is dumped into the cat, basically drowning it and reducing its capacity to store oxygen because the fuel clogs up the honeycomb style insides. Causes include clogged cat, and maybe bad O2 sensors if I'm remembering right, but clogged cat is the most common
Then p0442 - small leak in the EVAP system - evap system is used to make sure fuel vapors don't escape and enter the ozone. It has two valves that close and open, one by the charcoal canister, closer to the gas tank, called the vent valve and one by the engine called the purge valve. What it does is it uses the fuel pressure sensors(in tank) to monitor the fuel pressure and see if it drops when the valves are shut, indicating a leak, or it shuts both valves and monitors pressure between the two points I think. It throws this code when it sees a super small drop in pressure with valves closed. You can Google it to see likely causes, but they include bas gas cap, bad sensor, damaged fuel tank, damaged charcoal canister.
P0440 - another code for leak or malfunction in evap system, Google says it's caused most likely by a bad fuel cap or vapor pressure sensor, so that hopefully narrows it down some. You can check your gas cap yourself by inspecting the rubber ring on it for cracks or issues similar, I'm sure there's videos on the internet for it if that's something you'd like to try, or if you take it into a shop, they'll likely put a smoke machine into your intake with the system powered on and make sure none of the smoke escapes through either the gas cap or holes in the EVAP system when they power the respective valves on and off
Malfunctions in the EVAP system shouldn't effect driving, but will not pass any emissions testing. They check for these codes

I ban you because I guess that makes sense. My check engine light has been on for a little while, but Auto Zone only told me about the gas cap needing to be replaced. Maybe the other issues came up more recently since I took it there. Gas cap replacement doesn't effect driving, so I haven't taken it to get that fixed yet.

I ban you because I'll probably wait until after the trip to worry about fixing any of it.

I ban you because I didn't think they'd find anything major anyway. The car drives well, I didn't hear any strange noises, or any of that stuff that might indicate a problem
