Lily's Clan: A CYOA
Chapter 1: Kicked out!
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" Came Skystar's growl-call. He didn't sound particularly happy, Lilypad thought. As she padded to join her Clanmates, her fur bushed up instinctively as cats hissed quietly at her and moved away, some glaring at her and unsheathing their claws. She shifted her paws beneath her, ears twitching uncomfortably. What's going on? She thought uneasily.
As Skystar prepared to speak, Lilypad twisted her ears and caught bits of quiet conversation:
"...traitor..."
"...murder..."
"...liar, betra..."
She snapped to attention as Skystar started to speak. "ThunderClan, as you all know, the death of Preyheart, the deputy, was unfortunate. But signs have led me to a suspect... one that is not trusted, and should not be by right. And that cat is..." He glared at Lilypad, and she froze.
"Lilypad!"
Yowls of anger and revolt were directed at her, and suddenly Lilypad was in the middle of a circle of hissing, spitting, angry cats.
"Kill her!"
"Drive her out!"
"Rip out her throat and feed it to the ravens!"
"She doesn't deserve to go to StarClan!"
Skystar raised his voice above the clamor. "Enough! Lilypad will be a rogue unless we find out who the true culprit is. But know this, Lily... If you are found in our territory, any of my cats have permission to harm you as any enemy. If you turn out not to be the murderer, you will have compensation. If not..." He unsheathed his claws. "Let's hope there's some cat else. Now, LEAVE, before I make you."
Lilypad- no, Lily, now- dropped her head, feeling nips at her skin as they pushed her to leave. She started moving her paws...
WHERE WILL LILY GO?
A. Out of camp, out of territory.
B. Out of camp, hide in territory.
C. Lift up head and try to prove yourself wrong to Skystar.
D. Hiss in anger and refuse to leave.
After the first three votes the decision will be made, I will update as soon as I get 3 votes!
Chapter 2: A Valiant Protest
Lily jerked her head up, sudden anger flaring inside her. She didn't do anything! She would fight to stay in her Clan, as loyal as she was. She turned around and hissed, and several cats backed off, while the rest inched closer, flashing their claws warningly. "I will not leave while the true murderer still stands among us!" She yowled, baring her teeth. "I will not leave my Clan!"
Brambleheart, a senior warrior, glared at her fiercely. "How do we know you speak the truth?" A young apprentice, Flowerpaw, snickered.
"Yeah, you better get out of here, rogue!" Flowerpaw taunted. Lily let her hackles rise.
Skystar glared down at Lily, struggling to keep his cool. "I told you, once we find the true culprit you will be able to return. But for now, we can't trust you anymore than we would a rogue."
Lily knew she was defeated. Emotions swam inside of her, and she closed her eyes in defeat. The cats formed two lines, a pathway out of camp. Tail low, she trudged out, flexing her claws in frustration. She would have to make a life of her own; she didn't need her Clan now. They didn't trust her, she was no more than crow-food to them. But where would she go?
WHERE WILL LILY MAKE HER HOME?
A. Four-Trees
B. Edge of ThunderClan territory
C. In another Clan's territory.
D. Just outside of camp, and try to see if she can catch the culprit without being driven away.
As soon as it is clear what decision should be made, I will update right away!
Chapter 3: Caught in a Storm!
As soon as Lily had passed her old territory- ThunderClan territory- she had made her decision: she would be safe at Four Trees, and she could challenge Skystar at the next full moon, which was in 10 days. Until then, she would make her home there, and hope for the best. At least it was leaf-fall, and all the prey would be outside gathering nuts and berries to store for the upcoming leaf-bare.
Dry, brittle, brown grass littered with crunching multi-colored leaves pricked her pads, and Lily bushed out her fur, uncomfortable. Heavy gray clouds hung high in the sky, with the promise of rain to drive away the dryness of the Clan territories.
As Lily trekked up a hill, she breathed in a gulp of clean, cool air. Wind whipped at her pale gray fur, soft and as light as a cloud. Four trees were like ants down below; it would take her a few heartbeats to run down to it. She tasted the air, heavy with the scent of rain. She could smell no other cats besides WindClan, who lived close to here.
She raced down the grassy slope, dirt flying in her wake. Lily closed her eyes and yowled in delight as the air rushed through her fur. But she stopped just in time to not run into one of the trees. She had made it! And good timing, too. A Rumble of thunder could be heard in the distance. And, on que, a few drops began to spiral from the low clouds. "Better shelter under the Great Rock until this storm passes... Oh, StarClan, is there time to hunt?"
Daringly, Lily crept out from under the rock. It was only a light sprinkle right now; she'd be fine. She raced away from four-trees, picking up a rabbit trail...
**A FEW MINUTES LATER**
Rain pelted her pale gray coat, so hard and thick it was impossible to see the end of her nose. Thunder and lightning crashed together in harmony above as the rabbit hared away. Lily had no idea where she was; but she did know that this was a bad cloudburst. It would end in a few heartbeats. But the rain was still bad; she was chilled and soaked to the bone. She would not survive without help.
Miraculously, a faint shape appeared in front of her. Lily realized that the cloudburst was over; the cat still looked drenched and shivering, and that meant that it was close. She instinctively unsheathed her claws, unsure of her next course of action.
WHAT SHOULD LILY DO?
A. Collapse onto the ground, not fighting exhaustion.
B. Challenge the cat, "Who are you?"
C. Straight outright attack him/her.
D. Ask, "C-can y-you h-help m-me?"
Chapter 4: Friends?
Miraculously, the rain started to ease up, and Lily could see the shivering shape in front of her more clearly; it was a tom, lean and muscular, a dark brown tom with glittering blue eyes. "Wh-who a-are y-you?" She asked him through her chattering teeth. The tom, looking weary and wary, replied,
"My n-name is L-Leaf. My name is Leaf, and like you, I was also kicked out of my Clan, WindClan." Lily flattened her ears and bared her teeth through the rain.
"How did you know that my Clan kicked me out? Were you spying on us? I'll shred you!" Leaf took a step back.
"No, no! I can still smell Clan scent on you. I have a good nose, even through this storm. What's your name, anyways, cat?"
Lily laid her hackles flat, although the rain did it for her. Should she tell him her name? Could she trust him? He did say he was an outcast from WindClan... could he use her to spy on ThunderClan for WindClan's own purposes? She would never do that! But, if he was to help her, he needed to know her name. Lily sighed. What harm could it do, just a name? Besides, that didn't mean she had to trust him. "It's Lily, formerly Lilypad. And you obviously already know I'm ThunderClan."
Leaf slowly nodded. "Where have you been sheltering, Lily?"
"Four-Trees. I'm going to wait for the next Gathering to challenge Skystar." Leaf looked at her, doubt shining in his gaze. He narrows his large blue eyes, so large that they looked like two beautiful, round pools of water.... Lily shook her head. She couldn't go mooning over a stray! She had to focuse on finding the culprit of her Clan, or at least surviving the storm! Speaking of storms, this one is easing up... back down to a drizzle. The clouds seems lighter, too. Has it finally passed?
Leaf looked behind him, starting to back up. "Well, I better go. Good luck with your plan-"
"Wait!" Lily half-yowled. The dark brown tom stopped in shock at the force of her meow.
"What is it?"
"Um..." Lily wasn't sure how to appear non-selfish to this cat, and not too desperate as well. "Maybe you could stay with me, and help me. I haven't been doing too great on my own. I wasn't the best hunter back in ThunderClan..." She looked up at Leaf. A small smile was creeping up his face, full of hope. Had he wanted her to ask him to stay? Lily shook her head. She must be imagining things. Who could like a small, weak cat like her?
"Of course, Lily. I might even stay and help you with your problem. I could help you get back into your Clan. Unless you committed a crime... like me." At this, the young she-cat looked at him. She knew she hadn't committed a crime, but Leaf had? This is a bit awkward, Lily immediately thought. What do I say?
WHAT SHOULD LILY SAY?
A. "That doesn't matter now."
B. "...let's uh, let's just keep going..."
C. (Tell Leaf your story)
D. "So did I, according to my Clan. I understand, almost, how you feel."
Chapter 5: After the Night
"Um..." Lily began. Leaf started padding forward, and Lily instantly followed. "Apparently, so did I. According to my Clan. I understand how you feel, Leaf-"
She was suddenly cut off as Leaf turned on her, fur bristling and fire flaring in his eyes. "NO CAT understands how I feel! No cat! You will never know the horror of carrying a crime as bad as mine! NEVER!" Then he dropped his head, silently sobbing. Lily took a step back, rage for herself building inside of her.
What a friend you are, you piece of fox dung! She bitterly insulted herself. What kind of cat are you? She laid her tail over Leaf's shoulders, but he shrugged it off and started racing through the darkening fields, toward Four-Trees. Lily sighed, shaking her head slowy, then scrambled to follow him. Even while running he seemed forlorn, his tail brushing against the grass, his paws heavy, his head down.
***AT FOUR-TREES***
Silverpelt glittered through the branches of the four trees, silent as a whisper and cold as ice. Thousands of other tiny sparks of light shined brightly in the blackness, comforting even while away from ThunderClan. Lily shifted once or twice in her makeshift hollow of damp grass and half-dried moss, unused to a night without her Clanmates softly snoring in the warriors den. She looked up, Leaf's snoring a small comfort in the background. Forest ambiance melodiously chimed in the four trees and bushes, although not as loud as daylight. "StarClan, show Skystar who the true culprit responsible for Preyheart's death is..." she quickly prayed. Closing her eyes, she settled down among her nest, and wrapped her pale gray tail tightly over her jet-black nose, wondering what tomorrow would bring.
(Sorry for the short chapter! )
WHAT DOES LILY DO IN THE MORNING?
A. Try to sleep again and dream herself back to ThunderClan.
B. Try talking to Leaf again.
C. Hunt for yourself and Leaf.
D. Creep back to ThunderClan at early dawn and see if you can find suspects for Preyheart's murder.
Chapter 6: Patrol!
The first thing Lily heard when she woke up was starlings tweeting in the Four Trees. As she opened her green eyes, she was momentarily startled. Why am I not in ThunderClan?! Where am I? Then she remembered.
With a sigh, Lily stood up and stretched out each of her pale gray legs in turn. Leaf's snoring made her turn, and she saw that he had made his nest under the nearest tree. His dark brown tail was tightly wrapped around his nose, and his eyes were squeezed shut, as though he were trying to forget something.
Trying not to think about the previous day, Lily padded out of the hollow, scenting the air for prey and to make sure she didn't cross a Clan's scent line. That would be trouble, especially since she didn't have ThunderClan's protection any longer. Soon enough, she was up the hill, and was hot on the trail of a hare.
Squinting across the moor, she saw it, nibbling on grass. It was unaware of its surroundings, focusing on the lush patch of grass. Lily dropped into a hunting crouch, moving her paws lightly over the grass. Her fur barely rustled the stems; she was as silent as a mouse. As she came within a tail-length of the gray hare, she wiggled her haunches, prepared to pounce.
Just as her paws came squarely down on the hare, a furious screech sounded close to her ear. Before Lily had the chance to take a breath, she was bowled over by a sharp blow to her shoulder. A cat soon followed, crushing her face to the ground. "Prey-stealer!" The newcomer hissed close to her ear.
With a desperate yowl Lily summoned all her might and threw the cat off, pummeling it with her hind legs. As she wobbled to her feet, she got a good look at the newcomer.
He was lean and thin, like Leaf was, a dark gray tabby with the light of battle in his eyes. With a sinking feeling, Lily realized he looked alot like Leaf; and Leaf was formerly of WindClan. "Who are you, trespasser?" The WindClan warrior snarled.
"I haven't crossed your scent line, you piece of fox dung!" Lily spat back angrily. Just then, 3 shapes of other cats pounded up to join the WindClan warrior, looking exhasperated. The leader of the obvious patrol was a tall dark brown tabby with large amber eyes, a she-cat, and the other two were toms, one black-and-white and one brown-and-white.
"For StarClan's sake, Littleclaw," the dark brown tabby sighed. "When will you learn to defend the territory and not the land outside of the borders?" Littleclaw glared behind him, but his claws sheathed and his shoulders relaxed.
"Sorry," Litteclaw mumbled, stepping back away from Lily. Only then did Lily realize that her shoulder was stinging from the blow the young WindClan cat had given her. She twisted to look, and saw that it wasn't even bleeding badly. It would close on its own.
The dark brown tabby she-cat stepped up to Lily, a cautious look in her eyes. "What's your name, rogue?" she gruffly asked. Lily hesitated, unsure whether to trust them.
