Finally, I’ve lost them. My paws are throbbing, and there are a few nasty scratches on my pelt, but it’s nothing that I won’t be able to heal. I think I’m safe here. Feeling exhausted and angry, I collapse in a makeshift nest, burying my face in my paws. Now that I’ve lost those clan cats who were chasing me, I can have a minute to rest. I need a second to gather my thoughts, after everything that’s happened.
I can’t believe that Stoneteller chose Panther. Out of all the cats in the tribe he could’ve chosen as his successor, he had to choose the most power-hungry, merciless, rash cat in the tribe. I can’t bring myself to hate Panther, but it’s obvious he’s not fit to be a leader! I think Stoneteller’s going mad in his old age.
Of course, speaking up got me chased from the Tribe of Rushing Water. I should’ve expected it, really. But still... Why wasn’t it Raven? Pebble wouldn’t have been a bad choice, either. Or even Falcon, or... me.
I dig my claws into the ground. I know that’s just my anger talking. I need to cool down. I silently pray to the Tribe of Endless Hunting that things work out for my tribe - no, for my former tribe, I correct myself. But I can’t dwell on that. I’m not going to join a clan, so I guess that makes me a loner now. I’m not entirely sure what loners normally do, but since I’ve found a nest to sleep in, I think right now I should just focus on getting some rest...
- Prologue, part 1 of 2
Woah, woah, wait, Flickerpaw... Are you actually going to get it done this time? You have a bad habit of leaving your journals incomplete.
Yes, this is going to get done, I swear on the River Styx. I spent too much time building a rogue camp to not put it to good use. I plan on re-booting Tigerpaw’s story later as well, but for now I want to keep it one project at a time so I don’t loose muse again.
How long will this journal go on for?
That’s actually a hard question. Whenever I get 20 positive hints, but that will probably take quite a while, and that’s assuming I don’t get the bad ending first. Either way, expect this to be a long sort of story.
Can I get a link to the challenge?
Sure!: untoldtales.proboards.com/thread/24482/tribe-challenge?page=1
Can my cat be in this?
Yup, just fill out this form:
Name: (Must be a Tribe Name)
Nickname: (Such as 'Talon' in 'Talon of Swooping Eagle', or 'Brook' for 'Brook Where Small Fish Swim'.)
Gender: (Self-explanatory)
Fur Color: (Use official names)
Rank: (Prey-Hunter or Camp-Guard?)
Personality: (Doesn’t need to be long, just so I avoid, for example, making a shy cat loud and violent.)
What’s with this weird FAQ thing?
I thought it might be a good way to answer some question I may or may not get about this. ... Plus, I kind of got interrupted by Question 1, so I just decided to role with it.
Now, back to the story.
I’ve built some walls around my nest, and collected a decent amount of prey. But while I was doing that, something odd happened. I heard the familiar sound of a waterfall, and immediately felt homesick. Almost magnetically, I was drawn towards it. I swam across a small river and laid down by the bank of the waterfall. My eyes suddenly felt unnaturally heavy. I fought it for a moment, but soon I had fallen asleep.
When I awoke, I was surrounded by starry cats. At first, I thought I died... But I quickly ruled that option out. The Tribe of Endless Hunting is a place for heroes, and unlike the StarClan these cats worship, not just anyone can get in. I’m not evil, but I don't think I count as a hero, either. Tribe beliefs are a bit different than clan beliefs, but for now, that’s neither here nor there.
A silver molly stepped toward me, a faint, motherly kind of smile on her face. “Hello, young one. I am Skies.” She purred. “We have summoned you here because we have a great task to ask of you. We saw how you stood up to your old Stoneteller, and we have decided you have a very important part of play.”
I nodded silently, to show I was listening. She continues. “You must make your own tribe, here in this forest. You must gather cats and carry on the ways of a tribe. Otherwise...” Her smile momentarily faded, and she glanced at the cats behind her, who shook their heads. Then Skies turned back towards me. “... Otherwise, something of grave consequence will occur.”
I stared in disbelief. “You... Are serious about this? I don’t know if I’m up to-”
“I am very serious, child.” She said gently. “There is no one better for the task. From the stars, we will do all we can to help you. By the word of the Tribe of Endless Hunting, we name you Teller of the Pointed Stones. Now, you will wake.”
The world around me shifted and faded into mist. I woke up in my den... But around me were walls and dens, herbs and the beginnings of a fresh-kill pile. The Tribe of Endless Hunting really had blessed me. I still didn’t know why they needed me to make a tribe here... Perhaps to simply spread our ways? But I somehow felt like it was more than that.
I know my mission now. I will do as they wished and make a new tribe, better and stronger than the Tribe of Rushing Water. The opposite of water is fire... So we’ll be the Tribe of Glowing Embers. Perfect. I lift myself to my paws, knowing I have a difficult task ahead of me, but also that I will do all I can to rise to the challenge.
My name is Stoneteller, and welcome, wanderer, to the Tribe of Glowing Embers.
