ah i realized it wasnt a glitch, but i needed to talk to patchpelt first before i could hand out feathers
or i guess you could consider the option of giving out a feather before you are able to a glitch
Sorry for the experience! The check is in there, but it's placed in the wrong place, so the game never checks if You meet the necessary conditions, leading to crash if You haven't talked to Patchfur (it also means You can give feathers to Nettlepaw even if You don't have any). Thanks for the report, I'll fix it in the next version.
I didn't even know it was possible to save Nightkit until you said something.
From what I've seen people play, some manage to figure out in time where he went, leading to him living. But if You play it for the second time, knowing that what You says matters and that he will run away, in the future it's usually completely obvious where You can find him.
After You complete the tour of the territory, Nightkit comes and asks You what is the coolest part of the territory. He will go to the mentioned place on the next day. You have around four minutes to find both kits (the time in battle and in dialogue with rogues doesn't count), which is more than enough if You know where to look, but not enough to scout the whole territory. If You're too late, either of kits can die (including them both).
A lot of players seem to get ThunderClan to lose the war, at the very least having to take responsibility for Spidershade's death, but some also have to give part of the territory away
foxclaw, a shadowclan cat a the gathering reveals that spidershade had been cheating with his mate or that cat obsessed with clawmasters who attacks waspwing during the shadowclan battle
thrushfeather is still my main guess though im excited to see who it is once act 2 comes out!!
I lost the war both times I played and got both results you described. So there IS a way to win the war?
There is. It's also possible to stop the war completely, and if not that, at least for the most part.
The vast majority of events and quests influence the outcome of the war.
One big factor is how much ShadowClan is willing to give to achieve victory. The weaker ThunderClan appears and the more responsible for Spidershade's death they appear, the more cats they'll send to war. Crossing the border after Spidershade got killed will also greatly increase ShadowClan's willingness to fight, so that should be avoided. In extreme case, ShadowClan will send everyone but elders, queens and kits. The more cats they send, the worse it is for ThunderClan.
There are a number of ThunderClan cats that want to stop the war (like the quest to give herbs to ShadowClan), their quests will lower ShadowClan's readiness, but these quests also tend to weaken ThunderClan in combat if the war does happen.
Any cat that have died in ThunderClan so far weakens the Clan, so optimally You'd want everyone to live.
The most straightforward to make ThunderClan do better in the war is to defeat more of their patrols.
Waspwing will take care of Sootleg if You don't have any warriors with You at this point. If You have a warrior in the party, You can still call him for help, since Sootleg is Act I bonus boss. There are two more waves of ShadowClan warriors and they are rather tough, if ShadowClan launches a full-scale invasion, but otherwise they should be managable. Defeating all three patrols is optimal. But just defeating Redpelt's group could be enough to win the war, depending on the other factors.
You may get comments about rogues interfering, and ShadowClan knowing ThunderClan's defense plans, if You didn't complete quests that stop these events. Looking for the rogues near the top ShadowClan border before You head for the gathering and dealing with them can be helpful. Finding how ShadowClan knows about ThunderClan's plans is more complicated, though You are given a quest to stop it, if You are liked enough by a certain cat.
all the apprentices went to offer tribute, but duskpaw attacked instead, nettlepaw said this wasn't a fight we could win so i made the patrol flee, none of the apprentices in the patrol died, but eaglepaw was taken away
- If you ask Pebbleskip about Spidershade's killer when meeting with him, he says that Spidershade had breathing problems, so his killer may have been a ShadowClan cat, since they knew about them. However, Amberflame regularly meets with ShadowClan cats, so she could easily know. - As well, despite the Doves trying to stop the war, they never actually try to find out who killed Spidershade. This seems strange, but it would make sense if Amberflame is deliberately not bringing it up because she doesn't want to be found out. - Amberflame also dies if you get the worst ending. It would be amusing if ShadowClan got vengeance for Spidershade and didn't even know it. Also, it makes sense that screwing up that much would lock you out of completing the Spidershade murder quest. - The one counterpoint is that Amberflame is guarding the camp when the murder happens. However, Firetail, her companion, is completely exhausted. If he fell asleep, she could have slipped away to kill Spidershade and been back before he woke up.
Alternately, Mousepaw or Magpieburr could have done deed.
Oh, and concerning Thrushfeather's meeting on the hill, if you have a good enough relationship with her, she'll invite you to the meeting and you can find out what it's about. You can increase the likelihood of this by not asking her about Spidershade's murder, catching both mice during the hunt (and using proper technique to sneak up on the dead mouse), and winning during your first fight against another apprentice.
When life gives you lemons, remember to say thank you.

Wait, wait, wait... There's a quest with Maplefrost? How do you get it? And also, it is actually possible to achieve the Unhealthy Question quest? The one where
Badgerpaw wants to become medicine cat apprentice.
I don't even know how I got this quest. It just popped up in my fourth savefile. Idem where Ravenwing asks to give herbs to Shadowclan. Is it possible? Blackheart is so stubborn sometimes lol.
Thrushfeather. After your first hunt, she says "Come back to the camp, I've got things to do." Then she disappears. And after I defeat/run away from the fox, Ravenwing comes and says that she found Spidershade dead at the border. Fishy, uh? I think she had some revenge to get against Shadowclan, so she kills one of their warriors, so Shadowclan attacks Thunderclan, that gives her a pretext to attack Shadowclan. And Ravenwing wants to apologize to Pebbleskip, but why? It looks like Thrushfeather and Ravenwing used to be very close, but Thrush doesn't like Raven anymore. What happened? (I wonder if they are related. Do somebody know?)

Yup, there's a quest with Maplefrost. Getting it may seem like a series of unrelated steps at first, but it all ties down together...
Also, new version came out since the first time You've posted. The quest is bugged in 1.00, if You want to do it, and You play on version 1.00, You'd have to download it again (version 1.01 is currently up).
To get it, try getting close to Badgerpaw. It's easiest to do by saying nice things about kittypet life after doing the tour on day 1. Also, when kits ask You for the story, make sure You tell them the version the elders are telling. Either ask them about it on some day or just reload until You get it right. It's also related to the quest Unhealthy Question...
You can convince him if he likes You and You pick up correct choices. It's not easy, though. You may also look for someone else who may have more authority to do it...
Ravenwing and Thrushfeather aren't related, they just used to be friends. Minor spoiler, though it's all explained in the game about Thrushfeather's family (it's very easy to miss, though):
