In Oregon, I've went to school with like a foot or two of snow that was leftover from the snowstorm and the only reason was because the road was plowed and salted. I help shovel the front sidewalk too.

I live in the South, so we got out or at least a delay at even the idea of snow being in the forecast.

Wow. We always have snow in the winter, and sometimes even the fall, so we go to school unless it's impossible to drive because of black ice or it's too snowy.

Once, I got out of school for like 2 weeks in a row because of snow and ice.

It was pretty awesome because we didn't even have to make it up.
When I lived in Alabama, I got out of school for a week twice, once for Hurricane Ivan (2004) and again for Hurricane Katrina (2005)

I only vaguely remember Ivan and Katrina. I was only in Kindergarten/1st grade.

They really are. Though most don't survive too long, the damage they can deal is frightening.

My family evacuated for Ivan, but I remember it knocked down a tree in our backyard. It was a big tree, too. We stayed for Katrina, however, since it wasn't going to be a direct hit for us. Now THAT was scary.

I did a whole speech about hurricanes when I took speech class my sophomore year of college.

Weather interests me, so that speech was actually kind of enjoyable to write.
