Hello! I got bored. So I decided to make a fanfiction. This is not the first that I’ve made, but this is the first that I’m posting. I will edit in chapters over time. Hopefully I actually finish this one. Anyways, comments are appreciated!

Leaf-fall was approaching quicker than she had anticipated. A chilly wind was buffeting her fur. The sun was setting a bit earlier than usual, and the leaves had begun transforming from their usual vibrant shades of green to darker colors of brown, orange, red, and yellow. It was quite interesting to witness. This would be her first leaf-fall. Hopefully not my last. A small voice at the back of her head added on. She felt irritated. No, don’t think like that. She protested.
The blue-grey kitten was standing on the edge of the Path. It was paved with dirt, and the plants around it had begun overgrowing. Patches of grass could be found here and there. Brambles and ferns had spread out onto it. Sticks and pebbles were strewn about. As far as she knew, it was abandoned, but she had been told that Twolegs once came here, walking their dogs, noisily chatting and trampling over anything that got in their way. Sometimes they would even have these strange contraptions, which consisted of two black circles covered in webs. It looked like some sort of weird spider. The Twolegs would sit on top of them and move along the path. It was dangerous to be in front of them when they did this.
Behind her was the forest. She stood by it, as if clinging to it and refusing to let go. As if she was reluctant to be anywhere else. It was all she had ever known for the past four months of her life. As short as it had been, she didn’t know anything else. She couldn’t imagine what life would be like if she left it. She couldn’t predict what would happen if she ventured off into the unknown. This was her home. This was where she was meant to be. Leaving the forest would mean leaving her past life. And most importantly, it would mean leaving them behind.
As long as she could remember, that cat had taken care of her. Although she didn’t actually know their name, they had taught her everything she knew. They had told her stories of the clans. They had taught her how to pounce on leaves. Occasionally, they would take her to visit Shadow Creek and allow her to watch as they fished. The fish in the creek weren’t nearly big enough to make a decent meal, but it was still fun to learn, nevertheless. Although, apparently when she tried to mimic their behavior, she would get scolded, the cat claiming, “You’ll scare off all the prey in the forest if you make that much noise!” This disappointed her slightly, because she thought she was doing well, although she let it slide past. Sometimes the cat would go out on hunting trips, leaving her by herself for long periods of time. She would feel scared and lonely. She would worry that they wouldn’t come back, and that she would have no one to take care of her. But despite this, they always came back. She began to worry less and less, feeling braver and braver each time they left. They wouldn’t abandon me. She would think. They can be mean sometimes, but they would never leave me by myself. And sure enough, they would come back, carrying fresh-kill.
Until one day, they didn’t come back. She waited and waited until she lost track of time. Eventually, she left the den in the hopes of finding them. She wandered throughout the forest, checking every place they could possibly be. She walked along the Path, but it was empty. She visited Shadow Creek, but all she heard was the faint gurgling sound of the water. Each and every time she reached an unexplored area, she felt her hopes rising in the false sensation that they would be there. But each and every time, her hopes were snatched away from her as quickly as the cat had disappeared.
And then, she did something she never thought she would do. She gave up. Her stomach was growling more and more often, but she couldn’t find any prey. She knew that she had to do something, but staying there was not one of them. She knew that the unnamed cat would never be returning. They were gone. Gone for good. She didn’t know why they actually left. She figured that they would have told her if she was leaving. They must have had a good reason. They weren’t the type of cat to do things without being able to explain them. Somehow, deep inside her, she thought that maybe the cat left against their will. Maybe they didn’t want to leave. But maybe something happened.

Chapter One
What will I do now? The thought appeared suddenly. It hadn’t really occurred to her to think of what she would do, or where she would go. All she knew was that she couldn’t stay in the forest for too long. There was nothing left for her to do. She knew that she wouldn’t survive long out here. But how do I even know that they will accept me? She questioned. I am just a kit, so surely they won’t attack me, but how do I know that they won’t just turn me away? She pondered silently for a few moments. From what she had learned, these cats were not friendly with outsiders. They relied on themselves, and only themselves. They took care of themselves, and only themselves. If anyone else came in and tried to change that, they would be chased off. She had even been told stories of rogues being killed. She had immediately decided that those stories were false, although a small part of her knew that it was a possibility.Leaf-fall was approaching quicker than she had anticipated. A chilly wind was buffeting her fur. The sun was setting a bit earlier than usual, and the leaves had begun transforming from their usual vibrant shades of green to darker colors of brown, orange, red, and yellow. But maybe something happened.
All that led to where she was standing right now. At the brink of exhaustion, the wind buffeting her fur, looking forward with hazel eyes. Ahead of her, there was a vast landscape lit up by the afternoon sun. She took the sight of it all in. Sandy plains covered in dull grass and scraggly bushes. A lake stretching as far as the eye can see. A valley formed by towering mountains. She took a deep breath before heading off in the direction of the valley.
Chapter Two
After a while, the trees behind her had gotten smaller and smaller until they seemed nothing but a distant memory. After an even longer time, they had disappeared altogether. She felt exposed being out in the open like this, when she was so used to the comfort of the forest. Trees above her head, birds singing, crickets chirping. Out here, there were no sounds, and there were no trees. All she heard was the sound of her own footsteps as she walked over the grass. Everything felt still, and almost peaceful, yet unsettling at the same time.
When she looked behind her, she saw nothing but grass. When she looked to the right, she saw nothing but grass. When she looked to the left, she saw nothing but grass. Her paws were beginning to ache and she didn’t know how long she could keep this up. She felt as if she were going to collapse to the ground at any second. She was already exhausted from searching so long in the forest. Maybe I should have left earlier. She thought. But, what if they came back, and I wasn’t there? She questioned, although she knew that they were never going to come back.
It felt as if she had been walking forever. She was beginning to feel hopeless. Her future seemed uncertain and thinking about what she would do when she encountered a clan cat filled her with dread. When she had first started the journey, she was filled with excitement and determination. Now, her paws carried her along mindlessly, and she stared forward, not really looking at anything in particular. All she could do was continue forward and hope to find something. She had no choice. It was far too late to go back now. The sky was darker than it had been before. The sun was beginning to sink below the horizon, threatening to cast darkness upon the land. She had to keep moving before nightfall arrived.
Suddenly, she noticed something. She realized the ground was gradually sloping upwards. The feeling of grass beneath her paws was being replaced with a hard, rough substance. She looked down to discover that the ground here was more rocky than it had been before. She looked upwards with awe to discover a gigantic mountain, looming so far above her that she couldn’t even see the top. She highly doubted her ability to climb it, especially being only a kit, so she changed direction and continued to walk along by the side of the mountain.
Some time later, the mountain beside her was lowering further and further, until it was manageable for her to climb over it. She slowly began walking up. It was still steep, even here, but she made it to the top. She then started walking cautiously down the other side, although to no avail, since she tumbled down anyways. She hit the bottom with a thud, landing on a patch of grass. She got up to her paws, quickly grooming her fur. Beside the patch of grass, she discovered multiple pointy rocks.
Setting off on her journey again, she thought she heard a faint mumbling sound in the distance. What is that? She thought, listening closer to see if she could hear it again. But as she did, she heard nothing. Huh. I must have imagined it. She remarked. But that sounded so real.. She hoped that she wasn’t going crazy, and dismissed it, continuing to walk forward. Far off in the distance, she saw another mountain. It reached up high into the sky, seemingly just below the clouds. The very top of it was flecked with white. She was definitely inside the valley, by now. But where are all the clan cats? She pondered.
As she walked forward, she heard the faint mumbling sound once more. She stopped in her tracks, pausing to make sure she wasn’t imagining it. But this time, she definitely thought she heard something. Curious and puzzled at the same time, she began walking towards the sound. As she was walking, she realized that she was heading away from the valley, but she continued to follow the sound, anyways. It was growing louder and louder as she moved closer. Soon it was no longer faint. In fact, it wasn’t just mumbling. It sounded like voices, although she couldn’t tell exactly what they were saying.
Figures came into view. As she walked forward, she realized that they were cats, and that they were heading in her direction. Instinctively, she hid behind the nearest thing she could find, which happened to be a rock, and prayed that they had not seen her. The voices grew louder, and she slowly peaked her head above the rock for a quick glance. She noticed that there were four cats in total-A reddish-brown tabby with a white underbelly, a white cat with grey patches that was smaller than the rest, a dark brown tabby, and a golden brown tabby. She quickly ducked back down. She didn’t think any of them noticed her, and if they did, none of them showed it.
“Any sign of DesertClan?” The reddish-brown tabby asked as they walked.
“Not that I’ve seen.” The golden brown tabby replied.
“Ha! They must be scared of us.” The white-and-grey cat declared.
“Never get too confident when it comes to other clans.” The red tabby warned matter-of-factly.
“Especially DesertClan.” The dark brown tabby added on.
“Who knows what they’re up to, these days.” The golden brown tabby commented.
There was a moment of silence. She could hear the sound of footsteps grow louder for a moment. She assumed they were walking past her. She waited for a few more moments until the footsteps started to grow quieter. The kitten took a deep breath. She didn’t know what to expect if she confronted these cats. She was scared to find out. But she knew that she had to do something eventually. She would die out here. These cats were the only chance she had at survival, and she was not just about to pass that up.
So, she emerged from behind the rock and walked up to them. She was sure that they were aware of her presence, but they ignored her, walking faster, now. Wait! Please don’t leave me here! She wanted to say, but no words came out. She walked faster, scrambling to catch up with them, but she was too slow. However, she kept moving, almost running at this point.
“Get lost, kit.” The dark brown tabby growled at her.
The words stung her. She felt her heart sink and she stopped walking for a moment. But.. but… She wanted to say. She knew they weren’t friendly, but she didn’t expect them to be this harsh. If this was how they treated a kit, she couldn’t imagine how they would treat an adult cat. Regardless of this, she continued walking towards them. They continued to pretend as if she wasn’t there. She walked faster. They walked faster. She didn’t know how long she could keep moving before they left her behind completely.
“I said: Get lost!” The dark brown tabby hissed.
Out of nowhere, the dark brown tabby whipped around and lashed out at her. She felt a burning sensation along where she had been attacked. She stood there, shocked, staring with wide eyes. She felt herself trembling with fear. Her face started to feel wet.
Chapter Three
“Wow, that was uncalled for, Mudstripe.” The golden brown tabby cat meowed. The other cats had stopped walking by now, and seemed to be discussing something. The unnamed kitten stood there silently, unsure of what to do. There was nothing she could do. She couldn’t focus on anything properly. The voices she heard sounded like background noises for a few moments. She couldn’t really bother to pay attention to what they were saying. What’s going to happen now? Eventually, she managed to pull her thoughts together and began listening to what they were talking about.
“For CloudClan’s sake, just leave them be. They aren’t going to do anything.” The golden-brown tabby spoke, louder this time. There seemed to be a hint of anger in her voice.
“We were ordered to attack any rogues that came here. I was merely obeying those orders. We should have chased them off a long time ago, but apparently you cats are too nice for that.” Mudstripe spoke.
“It’s not right to attack a cat that can’t fight back. Rogue or not, you don’t attack a kit.” The golden-brown tabby insisted.
“Ryeheart, don’t you remember what happened last time we let rogues trespass on clan territory? Should we really be taking risks?” The reddish-brown tabby questioned uncertainly.
“Pfft, they’re a kit! What could they do?” The white-and-grey cat exclaimed, as if it were ridiculous they were arguing at all.
“Who cares what they could do? They’re a rogue. They’re on our territory. We should know well enough to chase them off immediately, and if none of you will do it, I’ll have to.” Mudstripe declared.
“They wouldn’t be able to do us any harm if we just left them here.” The reddish-brown tabby replied.
“Then why would you attack them?” Ryeheart challenged.
“Because, that’s what we’re supposed to do!” Mudstripe hissed, becoming frustrated.
“Well, what we’re supposed to do is wrong!” Ryeheart growled.
“Let’s just leave. This is getting out of paw.” The reddish-brown tabby spoke.
“No.” Mudstripe retorted.
“Because?” The reddish-brown tabby asked.
“We can’t just ignore them. Last time we did that-” Mudstripe began, only to be cut off.
“That was a long time ago. Things have changed since then. The clans have gotten stronger.” Ryeheart argued.
“But we’re still weaker than before.” Mudstripe responded.
“Come on. We’re wasting time. We need to finish this border patrol.” The reddish-brown tabby pointed out.
“Yeah, Wrenfoot’s gonna kill us if we don’t.” The white-and-grey cat added on.
“Hey, show some respect for your deputy, Shrikepaw!” Ryeheart berated.
“Fine. Let’s leave, then.” Mudstripe declared, turning around and walking off before anyone could say anything. A few moments later, the reddish-brown tabby followed after, along with the white-and-grey cat. The golden-brown tabby remained exactly where she was. The others kept heading forward until they realized that one of them was missing and turned around.
“Are you coming, or not?” The reddish-brown tabby questioned.
“We can’t just leave them here.” Ryeheart stated.
“Why not? It’s of no use to use to us.” Mudstripe replied.
“They’ll die, and you know that. It’s practically the same thing as killing them ourselves.” Ryeheart responded.
“Are you saying we let them join?” The reddish-brown tabby asked.
“Yes, actually. I am.” Ryeheart responded.
“Well, there’s no way that’s going to happen.” Mudstripe replied, continuing to tread quickly forward without looking back. After a few moments, the reddish-brown tabby looked back before heading in the direction of Mudstripe. The white-and-grey cat stood longer before also moving on. They continued moving, but Ryeheart remained in the same position. The other cats turned around once more.
“You’re going to get left behind.” Mudstripe remarked.
“Oh well!” Ryeheart claimed. The golden tabby was obviously not going to move.
“Really?” The reddish-brown tabby said.
“What do you think?” Ryeheart questioned.
“I think you’re being mouse-brained.” The reddish-brown tabby spoke, although they looked as if they were struggling with something.
“Maybe I am, but that’s not going to change anything.” Ryeheart answered.
“Alright. You can head back to camp by yourself, then.” Mudstripe commented, flicking his tail forward to signal the others to follow. The reddish-brown tabby joined, walking away, although she looked even more conflicted with herself. This time, however, the white-and-grey cat stayed where he was.
“I agree with Ryeheart.” The white-and-grey cat spoke.
“Shrikepaw, come on.” The reddish-brown tabby ordered, still walking.
“But-” The white-and-grey cat started.
“We have to…” The reddish-brown tabby trailed off, sighing, and stopped.
“I’m not leaving, either.” The reddish-brown tabby announced, looking towards Mudstripe. The dark brown tabby was still walking, but stopped and turned around after noticing that he was outnumbered.
“Alright. Don’t expect Aspenstar to be too friendly about a rogue joining our clan.” Mudstripe spoke.
“We’ll take you to our camp. I’m Robinclaw, by the way.” Robinclaw meowed, ignoring Mudstripe.
“And that apprentice over there is Shrikepaw.” Ryeheart spoke, nodding her head towards the white-and-grey cat.
“I’m Ryeheart, and he’s Mudstripe.” Ryeheart continued, flicking her tail towards the dark brown tabby.
“Hey, what’s your name, kit? You haven’t meowed a single word so far.” Ryeheart inquired.
There was no reply.
“Alright, then.” Ryeheart responded.
“Can we go? I’m bored.” Shrikepaw commented.
With that sentence, the group of cats began traveling back to the valley and towards the camp. The kitten followed after them. I wonder what a camp is. I’ve heard it’s where a clan lives, but I’ve never seen one for myself. She remarked. What do “deputy” and “apprentice” mean? And who are“Aspenstar” and “Wrenfoot”? She thought. Where do they come up with all these strange names for things, anyways? She questioned. She was so busy thinking she almost didn’t realize that she was heading directly towards a thornbush, and diverted her path at the last second.
That was close. She noted and walked for a few more moments before questions began filling up her head again. What is clan life like? Will I find out? Or will I be turned away? She pondered, remembering what Mudstripe had said before. Well, there’s only one way to find out.
“For CloudClan’s sake, just leave them be. They aren’t going to do anything.” The golden-brown tabby spoke, louder this time. There seemed to be a hint of anger in her voice.

Chapter Four
Darkness clouded her vision. It took her eyes a few seconds to adjust. As her vision cleared up, she glanced around, taking in her surroundings. She was inside of a cave. The ceiling was high above her. The only light that came in was from the entrance to the cave, which was covered in brambles except for one small space to crawl through. There were rocks scattered here and there, one of them being bigger than the others. Under that rock, she saw a pile of various types of prey-mice, hares, grouse, squirrels, finches, sparrows, and others. Behind the rock, a branch was propped up against it, with brambles covering the sides. The back of the cave seemed to be sealed off with brambles to form a den. A small tunnel veered off from the cave, also covered in brambles. A hole with several branches and leaves over it dipped into the ground. A large den was built onto a ledge with several rocks around it. A rock surrounded with branches and brambles formed another den.As she was escorted by the group of cats, she felt the stares of the other clan members sear into her fur. She felt out of place, like an intruder (which she was), but tried her best to ignore them. She heard whispering, most likely talking about her, but she couldn’t hear exactly what they said. Eventually, the cats had led her to a grey tabby and a brown tabby. They seemed to have been talking before, but were now silent.
“Why have you brought a rogue into our camp?” The grey tabby cat spoke slowly.
“We were on the border patrol, and they just found us, and we-” Robinclaw began.
“Perhaps we should have this conversation in private.” The grey tabby cat meowed, flicking his tail towards the den next to the rock with the prey. The grey tabby began walking towards it, along with the brown tabby. Mudstripe, Robinclaw, Ryeheart, and Shrikepaw went afterwards. When the kitten followed, the brown tabby motioned for her to stay where she was. The kitten stopped walking and stood still, watching as the cats as they disappeared into the den. The cats around her returned to their previous activities, and noise filled the camp. She continued to wait, but her curiosity got the best of her, and she slowly began sneaking towards the den. She stopped next to the entrance, listening.
“...to leave it behind, but none of them would listen.” A voice, presumably Mudstripe’s, spoke.
“It was just a kit! What were we supposed to do, let it die?” Ryeheart exclaimed.
“You, of all cats, should know how dangerous rogues can be, Ryeheart.” The grey tabby cat said.
“This is just one rogue. And it’s not even an adult. It couldn’t harm a fly.” Robinclaw stated.
“We don’t accept rogues. If we start accepting them now, the entire rule could disappear. Not to mention how many cats will be unhappy with this. Not just from our clan, too, but from other clans.” A new voice, possibly the brown tabby, reasoned.
“Even if we do accept them, they’re not going to be particularly welcomed.” The brown tabby remarked.
“But they don’t deserve to die.” Ryeheart argued.
“Well, you do have a point. We’ll discuss it with some of the senior warriors and elders, and if they agree, then it’s possible. But no guarantees.” The grey tabby tabby announced, and the voices stopped. She heard footsteps, but by the time her brain registered what was happening, the cat was already outside, and staring down at her with piercing yellow eyes.
“What do you think you’re doing?” The grey tabby challenged.
Uh-oh. The kitten thought, trying to come up with a believable excuse, but nothing came to mind.
“Sheepcloud, please guard this kit. Make sure they don’t do anything.” The grey tabby ordered.
A black-and-white patched cat nodded, walking over and sitting down. The fact that she needed to be watched annoyed her greatly, but she guessed that was her fault for getting caught in the first place. Still, she acted as grumpy as possible to make her complaint clear. Sheepcloud didn’t seem to care.
The others had also exited the den by now. The group of cats that had brought her to the camp went off in separate directions. The grey tabby said something to the brown tabby, and the brown tabby said something back before searching around the camp. She returned with some other cats, said something else, and the group walked towards the very edge of the camp where no one could hear. They seemed to be discussing something, but what they were saying, she could not tell. Probably whether or not I’m going to be allowed to stay. She noted. She felt uncertainty rising within her. The longer she waited, the more anxious she became. She tried to hear what they were saying, but they were talking too quietly and they were too far away. Their expressions were unreadable.
After what seemed like hours of waiting, they headed back towards the clearing. The sky was definitely starting to get dark, by now. The sun had almost completely fallen below the horizon, and night was approaching quickly. The grey tabby cat leaped onto the rock, sitting down and facing towards the clearing, where the other cats that had been in the discussion seemed to be waiting for something. A few others had also seemed to notice that something was happening and began emerging from dens, chatting, and gathering in the clearing.
“May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting.” The grey tabby called out, and those that hadn’t already gathered joined the others in the clearing. The chatting died down to a whispering, and soon, silence.
“As you may already know, while four cats were out on the dusk patrol, they encountered a rogue. And as you may already know, that rogue is in our camp right now.” The grey tabby cat continued. She felt the suspicious glares of the clan members as she was mentioned.
“After discussion, we have come to a conclusion.” The grey tabby announced.
“They will be joining our clan.” The grey tabby declared. She felt relieved at first, but fear began rising within her when hisses, growls, and howls of protests came from the majority of the crowd. She managed to hear bits and pieces of what they said.
“After what happened?!”
“...can’t do that!”
“Aspenstar is going mad..”
“...rogue joining our clan!?”
“Chase them off!”
“That would make us as savage as them.”
“Why would you let them join?!”
“...them out of our territory now!”
“This is a terrible idea.”
“...could you let this happen!?”
After a while, the chaos died down, and Aspenstar, she heard was the cat’s name, began speaking again.
“Since they have no name, from this day onward, they shall be known Dacekit.”
“That is all.” Aspenstar concluded, leaping down from the rock. The cats previously gathered in the gathering scattered in separate directions. Some went back into their dens, and some formed groups, talking. A lot of the voices were filled with disbelief and anger. Dacekit… Dacekit echoed in her head. She hated the sound of that name. It felt unnatural to her. It would take a while to get used to. Dacekit began wandering around the camp as she searched for something to do. Most of them went silent and gave her hostile glares as she walked past them. She tried her best to ignore them. One cat, a tortoiseshell with green eyes, regarded her with a neutral expression.
“You might want to go to the nursery. It’s almost night,” The tortoiseshell added, flicking her tail towards the back of the cave where there was a den made of brambles. She said nothing else, but Dacekit was grateful for the help, anyways.
Avoiding the gazes of the other cats as she walked, she made her way towards the “nursery.” I wonder what that means. Dacekit thought. There’s so many things I don’t understand here… She remarked. She paused before the entrance. Three kits (black, cream, and a golden-brown tabby) were playing with a ball of moss. As she approached, they stopped what they were doing, and looked at her curiously for a few moments.
“Are you that new cat that joined?” The black kitten meowed.
“Hi! I’m Oatkit! This is my sister, Antkit, and this is my brother, Larchkit.” The cream kit spoke, nodding towards the black kit and the golden-brown tabby.
“What’s your name?” Oatkit asked.
“I heard it was Dacekit.” Larchkit said.
“But didn’t you have a name before that?” Oatkit questioned.
“No, or else they would have said it, mouse-brain!” The black kitten replied.
“I’m not a mouse-brain.” Oatkit stated.
“Well, where do you come from? Do you have any family?” Larchkit spoke.
Dacekit shook her head.
“Really? None?” Larchkit responded, surprised.
“Do you wanna play moss-ball with us?” Antkit suggested.
Just then, a brown-spotted cat emerged from the entrance to the den. They looked normal for a moment, but as they looked towards Dacekit, suspicion and anger filled their eyes.
“What are you doing?” The dappled brown cat questioned the three kits.
“We were meeting the new ca-” Oatkit began.
“We don’t trust rogues. We don’t accept them. And we certainly don’t talk to them.” The dappled brown cat talked seriously.
“Never say a single word to that kit again.” The dappled brown cat ordered.
“But why?” Larchkit asked.
“It’s getting late. Go to bed, now.” The dappled brown cat meowed, suddenly nice-sounding.
Oatkit headed back into the nursery. Antkit shrugged at her before following after. Larchkit glanced back at her before also going through the entrance. Lastly, the dappled brown cat went into the nursery. Dacekit stood there for a few moments. They really hate rogues. She commented, remaining where she was for a little longer. Afterwards, she pushed through a gap in the brambles, entering the den. There were four nests of moss where the dappled-brown cat and the three kits were lying down. When she looked around, she discovered that there were no other nests to sleep on. Well.. I guess that makes sense. I only just came here. She found a spot further off from the others and settled down onto the cold, hard floor of the cave. She tried to fall asleep, but she found it impossible to feel at ease. However, she eventually started to feel drowsy, and darkness started filling her vision. She began to sleep. She had no dreams.
