... his confusing, gender-based thorns.
A few days ago, I was roleplaying on a website that shall not be named and I thought I'd use my long-time OC, Roseclaw. But as soon as I mentioned to everyone that he was a tom, I recieved a few spatty messages saying that 'Rose' was a girly prefix and that I was trying to make a statement by giving him a 'she-cat' name.
My question is, since when have prefixes had genders?
Prefixes are always used to describe a cat's appearance and I thought they were often given before a kit's sex had even been determined. Roseclaw is a red-coloured tabby, so I thought Rose would suit him. Is aggresive gendering of prefixes a common/normal thing among the fandom, or have I not been paying attention to the books well enough?

I agree that prefixes describe appearance.
Prefixes for warrior cat names aren't like Spanish nouns, though the language of Spanish is beautiful. the prefixes don't really have genders, specifically. I don't know when this started, seeing as I've never come across it. -_-

It's simple. Would you name a tom "Lilyheart" or a she-cat "Thornclaw"

It's simple. Would you name a tom "Lilyheart" or a she-cat "Thornclaw" yes thornclaw is a bomb name, idk why you wouldnt want all ur cats named that OT: prefixes and suffixes in warriors arent really gendered, ur more likely to see flower prefixes on female cats but that doesn't mean a darn thing "Spotted" is the closest to a gendered prefix, because it refers to tortoiseshells. iirc male tortoiseshells are extraordinarily rare and the ones that do exist are often unable to mate and have poor immune systems. nearly all tortoiseshells are female. cant comment on my warriors oc cuz my only one is considered pretty neutral in naming
