Many moons in to the future of the clans, a plague ran into the forest. Many cats grew sick and started to die. A smart Riverclan medicine cat noticed something odd. Every amber eyed cat in the entire forest had the illness. And those who fell ill that weren't amber eyed were those who spent alot of time around the golden-gazed cats. Mates, kits, mothers, best friends... The cats with eyes the colour of suns were avoided as much as possible from that day forward. The illness, after 28 long moons, had killed off every amber eyed cat one by one. The clans were relieved, and soon the life moved on. But no one forgot the plague. Amber was branded as the colour of danger and death, and oddly, there was never a cat with amber eyes born again. Well, that was until one cold new-leaf morning...

Bright light filled Crowkit's vision. He'd opened his eyes, at last! The tom kit's gaze adjusted to see his mother, sister and a muscled warrior looking at him with excitement. Were they all waiting for me? He wondered. Then, their faces fell. They looked horrified. "The colour of danger..." Whispered his mother, Shadecloud. She trailed off. Crowkit had heard the queens say the story of the plague to their kits. What was going on? "I'll go fetch Ashstar." The warrior said, turning and rushing out of the den. Crowkit stood, glancing at his sister, Birchkit, and Shadecloud. "Did I break a rule?" Crowkit asked sadly. He felt his mother's fluffy grey and black tail wrap around him and pull his small form in tightly. "No... It's not your fault." Shadecloud murmured. Her tail strategically covered his face from view. A queen, Rosepatch, approached, a smile on her calico face. "Oh! Are his eyes open? What colour?" She asked in excitement. Just then, Crowkit glanced up to see a dark grey and white tom burst into the den, followed by the muscled warrior he saw before. "The kit." He demanded. "The kit with eyes of danger. Where is he?" Crowkit stood up and puffed out his chest. This tom was Ashstar! He needed to make a good impression on the leader. Ashstar looked terrified. "It can't be true..." The leader murmured. A cool breeze seemed to form in the den. Crowkit felt it and realised it was fear. And it was all aimed at him.

Crowkit, in his kit-like innocence, tries to make a good impression and introduces himself in hopes of lightening the mood. Obviously, it fails. (Pfft I hope I'm doing this right)

Why is the mood so tense? Why's everybody looking at you like that? You didn't do anything wrong! Shadecloud said so, so it's true. Curl up against Shadecloud and try to pull the innocent, frightened kid card - she won't let anything bad happen.

"H-hi, Ashstar, sir. I'm Crowkit!" He said, forcing a smile. Ashstar seemed unresponsive. The black kit turned to Rosepatch, in hope that someone would show some ammount of kindness. "My name is Crowkit. You must be Rosepatch. Do you have kits? Can I play witht hem?" He said hopefully. From behind her, two heads poked up. Both were she-kits, one the colour of fire and the other a copy of her mother. "My kits won't be going anywhere near you." She spat. Rosepatch wasn't the cheery or peppy she-cat she just was a few seconds ago. She pulled them in close to her. "But Mama..." Began the calico. "He's the first new kit in moons! We want someone new to play with." "Marshkit, look at his eyes!" Breathed the ginger kit in awe. "They're cool-" "And dangerous. You can play with his brother." Hissed Rosepatch to her kits. My brother! He remembered his sibling now. He turned around and saw a smoky grey tom kit next to Shadecloud. He watched Crowkit with green eyes. "Whoa, you've got the spotlight." Pebblekit, his brother, didn't seem slightly upset by this. It wasn't encouraging to poor Crowkit though. Disheartened, Crowkit turned back to Ashstar. The leader seemed to have regained himself. He stepped forward and began to speak in an authoritive voice. "Brightsmoke will travel to the moonpool tonight to see what this means." The tom said. He was a dark, ashen grey with a white underbelly and paws. His eyes were blue, like a fresh new-leaf sky. "Until we know about the kit's meaning, he will stay quarintined in a seperate den." Shadecloud looked alarmed. She didn't want her kit to be torn away from her. The queen staggered to her paws and raised her tail in a dominant way, challenging Ashstar. "B-but, we don't have a spare den." She stammered, pulling Crowkit away from the dark-furred leader. Crowkit sighed. Didn't he get an opinion in the matter? Ashstar looked angry, but somehow kept his cool. "There is an abandoned badger den right outside of camp enterance. The camp guards could watch him. He would be safe. And there will be no more discussion on the matter. Crowkit, kitten of danger, follow me. And keep your head down." Ashstar ordered, leaving the den swiftly. Crowkit felt his mother's grip loosen on him. He turned around, alarmed. Shadecloud didn't speak, but gave him a look of deep sadness and pushed him, gently, after Ashstar. He got the message and hurried out of the nursery.
The black-furred kit kept his eyes trained on the ground, following the scent of Ashstar. He felt the curious gazes of cats around camp inspecting him, looking at him, observing every bit of him. But they couldn't see his eyes, not yet anyways, for how low he held his head. With a gasp, he saw the steep climb out of the camp enterance. "Ashstar!" He cried. The leader peeked back at him from the other side of the entry tunnel. "I can't get up this." Ashstar grumbled and headed back down, picking up Crowkit by his scruff and roughly carrying him up. He didn't drop him yet though, but brought him to an adandoned badger den, literal seconds away from the camp enterance. He carried the kit inside and dropped him on the musty den floor. "You are to live here until Brightsmoke, our medicine cat, returns from the moonpool. In the corner you will find a moss bed and a mouse. Do not leave, or else." He warned, turning to leave. "Wait! Ashstar! What did I do wrong?" Crowkit cried. Ashstar turned to face him. "You have Eyes of Danger." Ashstar said simply, then hurrying out, leaving Crowkit alone.

Crowkit spends a while sleeping in the den, when he wakes up by paw steps outside the den. When he awakes, he finds the medicine cat, hopefully heading to the moonstone. In hope to find answers, the small kit sneaks after the medicine cat to the moonstone.

What respect you had for Ashstar evaporates rapidly. Humph. That's guy's a jerk. You don't really have the ability to escape, so you settle for throwing the biggest tantrum you can.

Crowkit sighed. It was starting to grow dark outside. The sky turned a deep midnight blue, and he cast his mind back to the nursery. Already he missed his brother and mother. The amber eyed kit dragged his weary paws to the dark corner of the den. He wasn't hungry, so he left the mouse alone and lay on the moss, snuggling his back into the soil walls of his den- no, his prison. He hoped that maybe if he shut his eyes and hoped hard enough, the cold dirt walls would turn into his mother's warm fur, and the moss beneath him would turn into his brother, and he'd be back in the nursery again...
He awoke with a start. Gentle pawsteps came from outside the den. Is it the badger? Does she want her house back? He thought, before mustering up the courage to check. He crept slowly towards the den entrance, the only source of light in the damp badger den. Crowkit peered through the entrance and saw a dilute tortishell she-cat. Her long, feathered tail streamed behind her, and her gentle brown eyes scanned the forest. Brightsmoke! She must be heading to the moonpool. He waited until she was a good bit ahead of him, then stealthily followed. The camp guards didn't see him, crow-black pelt merging with the unclear shadows of the forest. He'd only opened his eyes today, let alone been outside the nursery, so Crowkit was terrified of the forest. He kept his eyes locked on Brightsmoke's tailtip, though, and followed her silently. It was a long way, and his legs ached with every step they took uphill. Untill finally they entered a stone hollow- well, Brightsmoke entered. Crowkit hung around the entrance uneasily. The medicine cat glanced around the place, before dipping her head to the water and falling limp with sleep. "Whoa..." Crowkit murmured, approaching the starry water. He gently touched his nose to the water, and let the feeling of icy coldness creep up his spine.
"Oh, Pinebrook! I'm just so happy to see you again! But what do I do?" The voice of Brightsmoke was the first thing that came to Crowkit. He opened his eyes to see lush, green fields rolling out for miles, dappled with colours of flowers. The kit turned around to see Brightsmoke and a cat he didn't recognise stood under the shade of a pine tree. Crowkit felt exposed and hurried underneath a nearby clump of ferns to listen. The tom, presumably Pinebrook, spoke. "You've grown up, my apprentice." He smiled, reddish-brown tail flicking. Crowkit was able to get his scent- one similar to Brightsmoke, mingled with mint. "But may I ask, why do you fear this kit?" He inquired. They mean me. Crowkit thought, crouching down lower in shame. "H-he has Eyes of Danger! They're amber- bright amber, as bright as the sun!" The dilute tortie cried out in disbelief at her mentor's blindness to the issue. Her claws kneaded the earth in frustration. The medicine cat's tail lashed in fear, and her fur stood on end. Crowkit was in awe- is this truly the affect he had on other cats? Wow. "Yes, he does. But tell me, Brightsmoke. A danger to who?" Pinebrook said calmly, sitting down and wrapping his tail around his paws. "I-... uh..." Brightsmoke seemed lost for words. It was a good question. Who said he was dangerous to the clan? She sat down in thought, mimicking her mentor's position and sighing. "You bring up a valid point, but he may still be dangerous." Brightsmoke finally said. "Think about it carefully." Pinebrook said, before moving onto a new topic. "So, how is Shadowclan doing? Violetleap joined us a quater moon ago, how is her mate doing?" Crowkit didn't care about how Violetleap's mate was doing, so he turned and wandered off. He saw a stream and realised how thirsty he was. With a sigh, the black kitten lowered his head to drink from the water. It was cool and refreshing. As he pulled away, he saw his reflection in the water. He saw his reflection for the first time. He was a small but by no means scrawny or weak kit, with burning amber eyes, bright as the sun. Suddenly, a cat's reflection appeared next to his. It was a she-cat, much bigger than him with a lean and slender frame, covered by a pelt of auburn and white. And standing out stunningly from her face were two bright amber eyes. Crowkit jumped back and whirled to face her. "You shouldn't be here." She said with a friendly smile. "I'll send you back home." The cat touched her tail to his shoulder, and Crowkit felt the starry world fading. "Wait- your eyes! I need to ask you something!" The kit cried, reaching out with a paw to try and grab onto the fading Starclan. The she-cat chuckled at him. As the warm of the sunny Starclan and the bubbling of the stream gave way to the pressing silence and coldness of the moonpool, she uttered some last words. "My name is Daypatch."
Crowkit awoke. His heart raced inside his chest. Another amber eyed cat? How? "Daypatch..." He whispered. His golden eyes trailed to Brightsmoke. She fidgeted, slowly becoming awake. Oh no! If got caught, who knows what'd happen?
What now?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just to specify quickly, this story follows the world of the books. This means that the kits can walk and talk right after opening their eyes, contrary to the real world.
Even if you sneak away from Brightsmoke, everybody's going to be mad at you if you go home. After you opened your eyes, they don't seem to want you there very much anyways. You try scampering out of the cave before Brightsmoke wakes up, wondering if it would be wise to just not go home.
What if you lived with a loner? Maybe even with twolegs? The sky's the limit! There's a whole forest out there, why would you want to stick around with these jerks like Ashstar and Rosepatch?
(Of course, the attempt to run away from home will most likely be very short lived, because you don't know the first thing about hiding your scent or stealth.)
Think about running off to retreat to the loner den, but your small legs wouldn't get you home in time. You sit up straight and take the punishment waiting for you.
Winning Choice: Attempt to run away Accept your punishment
Crowkit turned and ran as fast as he could out of the stone hollow. He quickly slipped inside a bush and crouched hiding. What now? I can't go home- no one seems to want me. Maybe I could run away? Yes- find a warm twoleg home, or a cozy barn. I don't need them! He thought. Filled with confidence now, the kit left the bush and began to wander towards the sunrise. The golden light was inspiring. Crowkit was ready to take on the world, prove to everyone that- "There you are!" His heart sank as teeth locked around his scruff. Brightsmoke had followed his trail. The dilute tortie didn't seem mad. "Silly kit- I can't believe you made this journey at this age." She chattered through his fur as she carried him home. Crowkit's amber eyes remained longingly at the rising sun. Just outside of the valley, there might be a place for him! He dangled from her jaws in silence as they returned home. Crowkit inhaled the scents of cats as they got to camp entrance. Ashstar, the muscled warrior who was with my mother and siblings when I opened my eyes, another tom, and a rather old she-cat. He listed mentally. The dawn patrol? Either way, they had entered camp. Crowkit half expected Brightsmoke to drop him back at the stinking old badger den, but instead she carried him into her den. "Why here?" Crowkit asked as she dropped him on the soft den floor. He scurried over to a nest and settled down, tired. Brightsmoke twitched her whiskers in amusement. "It beats your old accomodation, right?" She purred, turning around and sorting herbs. Crowkit shrugged, curling up. "I suppose..." He murmured before falling asleep.
"I ain't sharing no den wiv dat rat ov'r there! My paw can just 'all off!" Crowkit heard the voice of an elder. He kept his eyes shut and curled up tighter, knowing full well who 'that rat' was. "Oh, please, Sandfoot! You'll have to be renamed Threefoot if you don't rest in here and let me heal it." Brightsmoke's voice rang clear. Crowkit opened his eyes a tiny bit to see what was happening. A stocky pale ginger she-cat stood in the den, one of her front paws bent at an awkward angle. Her muzzle was smattered with grey and her dull green eyes were furious. Brightsmoke gently led the elder to a nest and began to heal the cat. Crowkit sat up, now fully awake. He made to leave, but Brightsmoke placed a paw in front of him. "Don't go out there, dear Crowkit. Rosepatch and half of the clan will rip you to shreds." She warned, turning back to Sandfoot.
You know that the clan basically hates you just because of your eyes, so you obey and wait to see what the medicine cat will do. Possibly ask if she needs help.
Anger and despair fill you like the lake in newleaf. Flooding. Overcoming. You completely lose control and your temper. "Are my eyes really that dangerous? They're just a color, and I'm just a kit! You can't hurt me!" you yowl, hoping the entire Clan hears you. So what if they kick you out? You're a danger to them anyway, aren't you? You feel warm tears pricking the back of your eyes as Brightsplash (whatever the medicine cat's name was, i had a brain fart there) wraps her tortoiseshell tail around you. Her voice is almost enough to console you, but the shock on Sandfoot's face is infuriating. If he were really that dangerous, shouldn't she have been expecting some kind of remark like this? A pang of horror claws at your stomach when Sandfoot runs for Ashstar as if her paw never bothered her in the first place. "Ashstar!" the old, mangy- in your opinion anyway- elder panted. "The rat's going to kill us all!"
