It could've gone differently. If one thing had been different the entire series could have been different. Currently a oneshot, but I'm positive I'll write more later.
His son. Merope had been adamant about naming him Tom Marvolo Riddle after himself and her father. Merope had been a witch. She had kept the secret to protect him. And he didn't mind at all, as she stopped using love potion. Sure, he felt differently, but not bad different. Now he had a beautiful baby boy. If only his lovely wife hadn't died, they could've been a happy family. Baby Tom laughed in his blankets as his father picked him up gently.
Eleven years later, he received a letter in the mail, addressed to his son. Little Tommy had been invited to the wizard of school his mother should have gone to. The two Toms took a trip to Diagonal Alley, staring in wonder at everything. It turned out that Merope had had a sizable vault in Gringotts after her father and brother passed away from sickness. Tom Sr waved goodbye to his excited son as he left for a grand adventure, riding on a scarlet train.
Tom Sr died at the ripe old age of 81. Tom Jr, who sorted into Ravenclaw, eventually became an Herbology professor. He married Myrtle Warren, another Ravenclaw, who had often been teased during her time at Hogwarts. She became an Arithmancy professor. They moved to Godric's Hollow, to learn more about Tom's ancestors, the Peverell brothers.
Years after he became a professor, Gryffindors Lily and James Potter married, and had a son named Harry James Potter. Sirius Black, James' best friend was named godfather. Tom and Myrtle came over for tea often, as did author Bathurst Bagshot and Lily's best friend Severus Snape. The old Herbology teacher adored baby Harry, just as he had loved to teach the boy's parents. Every time he visited he brought the boy a treat. In time, the Potters had a daughter, Anna Petunia Potter. Harry became good friends with a boy named Ronald Weasley, and his twin brothers. After a while, they became friends with the bookish muggleborn Hermione Granger. Hermione and Harry danced together at the Yule Ball, and eventually got married. Anna married a boy named Dennis Creevey.
