(Sorry it's short!)
Chapter 1
1954 years before the Dragonet Prophecy…
Opal was not your average IceWing. In fact, she wasn’t normal in any aspect. Sure, she lived in the Ice Kingdom, followed their rules (most of the time), lived in the palace, and all those things.
But really, Opal was much less normal then that.
Opal was a hybrid, though there wasn’t much that gave it away. Her father was an IceWing and her mother was a NightWing. Because of that mix, Opal had an array of different colors in her scales.
Her scales had a mixture of pale purple and blue scattered across them. Personally, she thought that they were quite beautiful.
Her father, Hail, had told her about how she came to live in the Ice Kingdom, even though her mother lived in the far away and secret Night Kingdom.
Opal had been told that, as an egg, her mother, Visionseeker, had given her to Hail to be raised in the Ice Kingdom. Opal had never been told why, but she suspected that her father didn’t know either.
Something else that made Opal different was how she acted. She thought that IceWing rules were too rigid and strict, and though she did follow them sometimes, she also often didn’t. The only that kept her living in the palace was her father, since she didn’t have any other relatives in the Ice Kingdom that would be willing to take her in.
She hated to admit it, but Opal was scared of the day she turned 7, only a few days from She wasn’t high enough up the ranks to live in the palace once she was on her own.
In fact, she was so low in the ranks she would be out on the very outskirts of the Ice Kingdom almost on the day of her birthday.
No need to think about that right now, Opal thought. But she was still worried. She didn’t want to live on a remote outpost for the rest of her life. Opal sighed and glanced at her father, who was still asleep. The sun was still below the horizon, so she should have been asleep too.
She turned around and walked over to the bookshelf. Opal ran her claws across the rows of scrolls, looking for one she hadn’t read yet. IceWing life wasn’t very busy, at least for her, so she spent a lot of time reading.
Opal came across a scroll that had a title written in red ink. It read “The Eclipse Prophecy.” She took it and opened it, curious what was inside it.
It seemed to be about some prophecy. She came to the part that showed the prophecy and read it off in the quietest whisper she could.
“On her seventh year, a dragon of night and ice, will face her greatest fear, and disappear without a trace. Searching for a place to call her own, this dragon will rise to the occasion. And finally, she will find her home, with those she is acquainted.”
She realized what this meant. She was the only known IceWing-NightWing hybrid in existence. But what was this occasion she was supposed to rise to? Was she supposed to leave the Ice Kingdom to find a home somewhere else?
For a moment, Opal started thinking. Would it be that bad to leave to find a new home?
Her seventh birthday was near, and she didn’t want to end up with that terrible fate of living on her own on an island outpost. She looked over to her father.
Opal’s father didn’t pay much attention to her, as if she wasn’t even there. She didn’t want this. She didn’t want this life for herself. All she had to do, was wait for her seventh birthday.
