((okay, so they can barter and stuff. cool!))
Blaze nodded, putting a hand to his chin and trying to recall if he'd heard anything recently from anyone in the clan about needed items. Nothing in particular was coming to mind, but perhaps taking a flight around would help him brainstorm.
"Okay, thank you! I'll take a look around and see if I can find anything of value." Blaze smiled, dipped his head respectfully, and began to walk away. If nothing else, he could always gather more resources that the clan was always in need of.
With that, he began heading for the south side of camp, toward the runway.
--
Enlynn gave a small smile and nod. "Those pans would be great, thank you."
Not wanting to be in debt, and also to reward Susan for her fine craftsmanship, Enlynn wondered what she could bake for the blacksmith with these pans. Enlynn wasn't one for small talk, and admittedly didn't know much about Susan's tastes.
"If I can get the ingredients, I should have time later to bake something to return the favor," Enlynn began. "Might I... er... inquire as to what baked goods you fancy most?"
While making the babyfood concoction, Akari began to think about what life would have been like if she'd had a family growing up. As a child, she'd spent a lot of time around other kids in the nursery. But then, she'd never really left the nursery like the others. She'd continued to stay there and help out the other parents with their children, and Akari had enjoyed it and never longed for any other clan role.
At times though, she did feel a bit isolated. It was hard to make friends her age when she spent the vast majority of her time around the hatchlings. By the time members of the clan were in their 20s, most had already formed solid friendships with other humans and avians they'd been apprentices alongside with. But Akari had never been a formal apprentice, and thus had never had the chance to forge those bonds.
As she roused from her thoughts, Akari realized she'd spilled some of the babyfood on the floor. "Oops..." she said, then covered her mouth and looked around to make sure she hadn't woken anyone. A few hatchlings stirred in their sleep, but none sat up. With a small sigh, Akari grabbed a towel and began to wipe up the spill.
Now if anyone told you Susan didn’t have a sweet tooth, that was a lie. She absolutely adored baked goods although admittedly nearly burned down the kitchen rather than make anything edible. “Hmm… cookies? You can make a big batch and take some to the kids too.” She suggested with a grin on her face, really the batch of cookies could be given to anyone and in a way were practical- easily stored and transported.
(✯~Rippleshadow~✯, I’m actually making a kid character ^^ but he won’t be up until tomorrow or Sunday)

Enlynn nodded. Cookies were fairly simple to make, although she would have to wait for the baking sheets for those. Susan had they'd be done in a couple of hours, and Enlynn would need to be in the Medicine Den for now anyway, so the timing would work out fine.
"Okay, I can do that," Enlynn said as she took the pans and gave a small smile. "Please let me know if you need anything else. I'll be at the Medicine Den if you need me."
With that, and while wondering if perhaps stating she'd be at the medicine den was awkwardly obvious, she dipped her head and began to take her leave.
As Blaze walked out into the fresh morning air and sun, he took a deep breath and began stretching out his wings. There were a couple other clan members walking or flying around outside, attending to business of their own. Blaze, who tried his best to be friendly, waved in greeting to any passing folks he saw, but didn't attempt to make small talk.
After a couple minutes he made it to the edge of the runway, looking out at the scenery before him. It was days like this he felt lucky to be living here, with the beautiful nature and kind people.
With a short run and a great leap, Blaze took off into the air and began flapping his wings. His patrol had begun.
“Alright, take care.” Susan replied and waved goodbye to the healer, then returning back to her work once she left. She had a couple of quick commissions to finish then could get around to the cooking pans, luckily their supplies weren’t limited in terms of ore and other materials as of late. She had noted a lack of travelers lately, often not unheard for the clan to not see new faces every month but the trade was drying up in some parts. Most of the time it meant that something was stirring up and keeping business at bay.

Ceolbert stirred in his sleep, his wings folded around his small body as the boy remained content in his dream. He was one of those sleepers that tended to snore and often kicked the nearest thing closet to him occasionally, which in this case also was his wings that would twitch. Being proud of his wings was one thing, being slightly bigger than most of the kids his age, he figured it was a sign of greatness… yet nothing coming from them as of late. He got found out on several occasions trying to set up pranks or sneak out of camp due to his wings giving him away, by knocking things over and etc. When he did start to wake up with a yawn and rubbing his tired eyes. I smell something… he thought as he rubbed his stomach a little, apparently woken up by the smell of food.

After giving a small wave, Enlynn exited the room and hurried quickly back to her medicine den. She breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped inside and saw that no-one was there waiting for her.
Feeling assured since no-one was around, Enlynn took a minute to walk to her own room and store the pans for later, before heading back to the medicine den again. With no patients at the moment, Enlynn decided now would be a good time to work on inventory, and make sure she was stocked up on everything she needed.
Pulling out a scroll and some ink to make a list in case she needed items, she began sorting through a drawer with various herbs.
--
After Akari cleaned up her spill and made sure there was no mess to be found, she finished up the baby food and began preparing breakfast for the older hatchlings are well. She had some leftover biscuits which she topped with a bit of jam, made from the berries that the clan had grown. There was also some milk from the mountain goats nearby as well.
As she was just finishing up her preparations, Akari sensed movement from the corner of her eye, and turned to see that the older hatchling Ceolbert had woken up. With a smile, Akari put a couple biscuits on a tray and carried it over to the young avian with a glass of milk.
"Good morning," she whispered. "How is my little Bertie doing this morning?"
Ran suddenly sat up from her bed, hoping it wasn't too late in the day already. She hopped up, grabbed a piece of bread as she ran out the entrace of her room, and ran to the blacksmith shop where she knew her mentor would be. "Good morning, Susan!" Ran called out, bowing in apology as she entered the room. (Lily~Myth)
“Morning Akari!” Ceolbert grinned but somehow didn’t wake up any of the other inhabitants, he had trouble with some of the names- often relying on nicknames but was getting better and the first had been the caretaker. He sat up from the bed with his feathers and hair ruffled, his wings would need to be preened soon as the old ones started to grow loose as the new ones grew in. “I’m doing good, how are you? Thanks for breakfast!” He responded politely then reaching for the biscuits on the tray.
Susan turned in her chair to see her apprentice, “Morning Ran, did you sleep well?” She had finished much of the work for today and just got done with the baking pans requested. The metal would need to be cool for sometime but after that it was complete. She could now focus on training and patrolling with her apprentice, she fixed her leg back in place as it had been a little squeaky with a gear being loose and a part needed to be changed out. Probably some patrols for today, we could do a border and gather on our way back…. Or do a training session… well… let’s see what she wants to do she thought to herself a quick list of what could be done that day.

"I'm pretty good," Akari said quietly with a smile as she watched Coelbert happily take the biscuits. She glanced at his wings and noticed they looked like they would need to be preened soon, she she made a mental note to help him with it later.
"Did you have any good dreams?" she asked, setting the tray to the side.
As Enlynn took inventory of her medicine stash, making notes of what needed to be thrown out due to being too old and what things she needed more of, she occasionally had to take breaks to give check-ups to people who came in with colds or minor injuries. There wasn't anything too serious to take care of today. For this, Enlynn was quite grateful, as it gave her peace of mind about the safety of her clanmates, as well as giving her time to actually work on inventory.
By the time she finished taking stock, she had a fairly sizeable list of items she either needed now or would need soon. She folded up the parchment and put it in her pocket, so she could go search for herbs later in the day. She would also need to talk to a clan warrior about scouting out any merchants nearby to trade for herbs and medicines that weren't in the local region.
--
Blaze had been flying around the nearby meadows without any luck for quite a while, so he shifted his wings and glided down to the ground for a short rest. Shaking his wings and looking over to make sure he didnt have any debris in his feathers, he folded his wings against his back and took a seat on a log on the ground.
It was getting towards afternoon now, so it was a prime time for merchants to be out on the trails. He'd probably need to go closer to a border if he wanted to have any luck.
"Yes, I had a good rest," Ran said, giving a serious nod. "I am ready for whatever is planned for today's training." Ran enjoyed getting to explore the territory whenever they went out from the mountain caves. (Lily~Myth)
Ceolbert nodded with his mouth stuffed, he swallowed his food before talking. “Yeah! I dreamed I was flying WAY in the sky! Everything looked like tiny ants!” He emphasized with his wings extending up a little towards the sky then folding them back down on his bed. “And, and I was really really fast too!” Most of dreams were like that, flying high into the sky with the other clan members and doing cool flying tricks that the adults and apprentices would show in the air. He didn’t know much if the human members could fly, but often enough the winged members could carry anything in their flight- albeit on weight of the object, distance to travel and if the object being another winged person…. Well there was a different ratio on that but he didn’t know much about that. He hates math stuff anyway because it’s boring and not that fun at all.
Susan thought for a moment and remembered from last night their leader making mention of one of the borders. “Let’s go to the Southern Sun border, we’ll check around the border and if everything is dandy then we can train in that area. Do you have your weapons with you? If not go fetch them.” While the inner territory was more or less safe, there was always the threats of enemies or predators lurking about. For offensive or defensive measures, it was always best to be prepared for the worst case scenario. She would take her bow and short sword this time around, plus a walking stick in case the ground sloped too much or if her leg was bothering her.

Akari smiled and nodded enthusiastically as Coelbert described his dream. The youth talked about flying often, and expressed a great deal of excited about being able to fly someday. "If the people look like tiny ants, I wonder what the ants look like from so high!"
Akari didn't get out flying much these days. She enjoyed it when she got or took the opportunity to do so, but she had never been into trying to pull some of the stunts other avians enjoyed. She preferred a more casual, slow ride on the breeze.
Ceolbert felt his wings grow itchy and started to fumble with some of the feathers that were already popping loose from his wings. He remembered how he first had panicked, crying out to the caretakers that he was ‘losing his feathers’ and his face growing redder as they laughed in a good hearted manner but had quickly explained that this was normal. Feathers were essential like teeth in the way that the old feather ‘dies’ when the new one starts to grow. It was an itchy process when wings left unchecked yet also if his wings were dirty and so forth. “What do you see when you fly?” He asked excitedly, “Can you take me one day?”

Noticing Coelbert's discomfort, Akari slid over and began to help him gently preen his feathers. "I see lots of things when I fly," Akari mused. "I like to look at all the different landscapes, so I can come home and paint them."
She found a feather that was falling out and pulled it out, setting it aside, checking to make sure Coelbert wasn't hurt. "And I'm sure you'll get a mentor soon who will teach you how to fly. But once you learn how and your wings get big and strong, I'd love to go flying with you."
Ceolbert smiled and relaxed as Akari preened his feathers, it was like brushing hair but with feathers. He recalled some of her paintings that she had shown them, they were amazing and sometimes during nap time he would watch her paint if she was painting in the nursery while everyone was asleep. Though those occasions never lasted long as he normally just fell asleep soon as he got into bed. “Why can’t you teach me? And my wings are already big and strong!” He flexed out the one wing that the caretaker was not working on to somehow prove his point. His wings were a bit on the large size if by comparison of his age and of the avian side. “Lucas has small wings but can fly, so why can’t I?” He mumbled as their leader had normal-sized wings, through being of the hummingbird Avian his wings were rather slender and small compared to some of the others- even Akari had bigger wings.

Akari laughed quietly as she continued preening the hatchling's feathers. "It's not just about the size of your wings, it's about your feathers and proportions as well."
She opened her palm and showed one of the loosed feathers to Coelbert. "See? You're still shedding some of your hatchling feathers, but soon you'll have feathers like mine that will allow you to ride the winds properly."
She shifted again so she could reach Coelbert's other wing. "Once you become an apprentice, Lucas will assign you a mentor, and your mentor will teach you everything you need to know about being a part of the clan, including flying."
