Ceolbert had let out a small hmph sound but looked when Akari showed him one of the small old feathers in her hand and explained it to him. “When will my feathers become adult ones to fly? I’m six already… it’s going to take forever…” the world was always big, from the people he met, camp and the few times he had successful gotten to see the outside of camp- that is until he got dragged back to camp and scolded. He always heard the adults talk of scary things outside too but he didn’t understand that either. Sure there were big bears or sneaky mountain lions, a pack of hungry wolves or a very mad moose. But from a distance they were cool and in order to be grave ya had to have some courage to face them. “And forever is a very long time too.”

Akari was quiet for a moment, not sure how she could console the impatient child. In all honesty, she was not sure how long it would take before Coelbert would be able to fly. Some hatchlings were able to fly as early as 4 years old, but for some it took much longer. There were so many different kinds of avian heritage, it was hard to keep track of how that would affect the learning process as well.
"Forever is indeed a long time," Akari agreed. "But it looks like your feathers will be maturing soon." She held out the try again, offering another biscuit in case he was still hungry.
Ceolbert seemed dismayed but happily took another biscuit off of from the tray, munching on it and getting crumbs on his face. He was a little bit of a foodie and may or may not have tried to swipe treats from their healer and resident baker. She was kind enough still give him one, of course after everyone got their share too. He had stopped doing so only a few weeks ago, having learned in the end he would still get something regardless if he tried to steal one or be patient for it. “How old were you when you started to fly? What was it like for you?”

Akari tried to think back to her childhood, although the truth was that she hadn't retained a lot of her memories from that time, as much of it had been unpleasant. She did recall, however, that it had taken longer for her to learn all the ins and outs of flying if only due to the fact she was something of an airhead who hadn't paid attention to her mentor at all times.
"I was older than you are right now," Akari reassured him, although she honestly wasn't sure if that was true. "And... it was like discovering I'd had an extra pair of arms that I never knew about! Now I can't imagine what I'd do if I lost my wings."

Ran nodded in response to her mentor's question. "Yes, I have my weapon right now." She held up her bow. "I'm ready for the border patrol!" Despite her desire to be pursuing her hobbies more, Ran knew it was important to learn how to serve the clan as well. (Lily~Myth)
Ceolbert listened to the caretaker as he fiddled with some of his loose feathers that had been plucked out. “That sounds so cool!” He couldn’t wait to start flying, he flexed the wing that was just cleaned as if ready to take off, or just trying it out. Those that didn’t fly often did stretch their wings out for exercise- it was encouraged around the hatchlings to strengthen their wings and joints. “Hey Akari…how does one start to fly? Like is it just a flap of the wing or something?”
Susan grinned as she stood up from the chair and slung the bow around her shoulders and attached the arrows to her side. “Let’s get going then, it’ll be a long trek.” She did enjoy her apprentice’s talent that was growing and she did her best to give her time for her hobby, though warrior training did come first and it not only benefitted the clan- it was also with the person. This was a hard world to live in and to survive one had to learn how to defend themselves.

Akari beamed at Ceolbert, honestly finding it adorable how fascinated he was with flying. "Flapping your wings is certainly an important part of it! But there's more to it than that. A big part of flying is about knowing which direction you want to head it, and in order to do that, you have to angle your wings and body at the right spot."
Akari stood up and, after making sure her wingspan wouldn't run into anything, spread her wings and twisted them to show Ceolbert what she meant by angling one's wings. "See? Like this. It can be difficult to learn how to do at first."
Ceolbert listened eagerly, no doubt going to put this newfound knowledge to work later. He watched as she spread out her wings and demonstrated what she was talking about it, he didn’t know much about different bird wings- apart from what they looked like. He tried to copy her movements but it was awkward, his wings were fuller and wee built with more with power in mind than with speed. “Does everyone fly different?” He asked seeing how they had a difference between their wings. Akari is a….I think a type of seabird…. I dunno it’s a long name. Mine is a kind of eagle I think…. he thought as the boy had concentrated look on his face like he was trying to think something through, even their leader had different wings and could flutter? Hover? It was like flapping a lot.

Akari hadn't thought much about how flying would be different for each Avian, but it made sense that that would be the case. She loved the perspective that little kids brought to life, and how they often made her think of things she wouldn't think about otherwise.
"Yes, everyone does fly different," Akari smiled. "Since we all have different sizes and shapes of wings, and our feathers are different as well. We need to adjust the way we fly to accommodate for those factors."
In all honesty, Akari didn't know much about aerodynamics, and she was glad to be speaking to someone much younger so she wouldn't have to go into to much detail.

Ran nodded as she followed her mentor's lead, slinging her own bow over her shoulder and walking behind Susan out of the room. "How has your day been so far?" (Lily~Myth)

Throughout the day, Enlynn helped treat any clan members who came in seeking a healer. Luckily, today seemed to be a good day for the clan. As of yet, she'd not had anything dire or concerning to treat.
After some time, she decided to take a break, as there was another healer on duty, and she wanted to take some time to go search for some herbs she knew were nearby.
Dipping her head at the other healer, she quickly exited the room and started walking toward the entrance of camp.
--
While Blaze was sitting down resting, he heard a quiet noise coming from a bush nearby. Careful not to move or make any noise himself, he slowly turned his head and looked closely at the source of the noise. After a couple of seconds, Blaze noticed some brown fur between the fronds of the bush. It looked to be a rabbit.
Blaze thought for a moment about whether he should hunt right now or not. Meat and other foods were always needed for the clan, so hunting was never a bad idea. But if he hunted now, he'd probably want to take the meat back soon, which meant he wouldn't have time to look for merchants.
After a minute of internal debate, Blaze decided he would continue searching, instead of hunting for now.
Susan made her way towards the entrance of camp, giving a slight nod in the direction of their leader who repeated the gesture. While t.here was a ‘runway’ of sorts for the Avians, there was also a path for those who choose not to fly or humans to walk. She guessed some could climb up but that was very difficult and dangerous. “It’s been well so far, my leg is achy a little but it’s just from this heat. I swear it gets hotter each year. And how are you doing?.” She replied over her shoulder, the inside of camp was kept at cool, habitable temperature but it was humid? Just warmer the closer you got to the entrance. She noticed that the healer Enlynn seemed to be leaving as well. “Hi Enlynn, I fulfilled your commission, it should be an hour to cool then it’s ready to go.” All completed products and commissions were placed on a shelf and carefully organized and labeled. She couldn’t be in smithy all day and people- more so clan members could just drop by and pick up their item when ready.
Ceolbert nodded once more and soaked up this new information, grown ups really did know everything. “That’s so cool.” He really wanted to try to jump and fly but the nursery was too small to do so, that and some were still sleeping. He did stretch out his wings once they had been fully preened, it was almost getting your haircut- less of a weight on your shoulders or getting a nice massage. He looked at the differences between his old, hatchling feathers and his more grown up feathers. The older ones were well old, still some fluff attached to them while the newer ones were more…. Striking? Sleek? Just different but in a good way.

Enlynn saw Susan walking toward the entrance of the camp with her astute apprentice Ran trailing behind her. As they got closer, Susan called out a greeting and Enlynn dipped her head gratefully. The blacksmith was very skilled and efficient, and Enlynn wasn't at all surprised that the items she had requested would be done so soon.
"You have my thanks again," Enlynn said. "Your craftsmanship is as quick as ever."
She had a hard time imagining having to keep up with her duties as a healer as well as having an apprentice. Personally, Enlynn didn't like to rely on other people and she definitely would not be comfortable delegating any tasks to someone who didn't have experience. The next time there was healer apprentice, she hoped it would be given to someone else.
Akari watched for a few moments as Ceolbert stretched out his wings and fidgeted restlessly. She felt sorry for the older hatchlings, who had started to grow restless as they were cooped up in the nursery with the younger kids most of the time.
"Would you like to go for a walk outside?" Akari asked, standing up and grabbing the tray. "I need to go take care of this, but while I'm doing that, you can get ready to go outside if you'd like."
“Anytime Enlynn,” Susan replied with a smile, when it came to payment within the clan she just preferred something in return- like in this case some cookies. She trusted that she wouldn’t get ripped off either, sometimes she employed the same method with trusted outsider traders or merchants but mostly she stuck then with cash transaction. “It was easy to do.” She also placed her craftsman stamp on everything she made but she may or may not have added small designs on the two baked pans her craftsman stamp with time that she had left on it. “Ran and I are headed to the Southern Sun border.”
“Yes please!” Ceolbert hopped up from the bed the second Akari mentioned going outside, he was at the point where he learned that with some patience and manners, he could make the world move. “I’ll get my shoes and stuff.” His shoes were under his bed and clothes were in a trunk at the foot of the bed. The trunk itself had drawings scribbled over it that he had done- the trunk would ‘follow’ him from hatchling to apprentice and then adult. Kind of like a memento of the past if you will.

"The Southern Sun border..." Enlynn mused aloud, remembering there was an item in her inventory list that needed restocked, and only grew in that location. She briefly considered asking for them to keep an eye out for the herb, but brushed that thought away. She preferred to do it herself, where she could ensure she had gathered the right amount of the right thing. She also knew that it could be hard to find time to train with an apprentice, and she didn't want to take up any of that time.
"I am headed that direction as well, actually," Enlynn said.
Akari smiled, pleased that Ceolbert was so enthused to go on an outing. "Okay, I'll come get you when I'm ready," she said. Normally she would have warned him to not be too loud while getting ready as to not wake up the other hatchlings, but it was getting late enough that they were all starting to wake up naturally anyway. Luckily there were other caretakers around who had kids and would be able to help watch over everyone in Akari's stead.
She took the tray back to the kitchen and washed it thoroughly but quickly, then set it again the wall for it to dry. It wasn't until her own stomach rumbled that she realized she hadn't eaten breakfast yet, and she was actually quite hungry.
She grabbed an apple for herself and an extra one in case Ceolbert wanted one, then headed back over to where the hatchlings were.
