Prologue
Syd lay down, half-asleep, on her bed. Her two-legs weren’t home just yet, and the only cat nearby that wasn’t sleeping right now, was a bunch of tiny kittens and their mother, Coco, a grumpy cat who had been pushed to the edgr by her kits, and seeing Syd would just push her over the edge.
Syd’s mother was close friends with Coco, but ever since her death, Coco had been snappy as ever.
The young she-cats thoughts had led her into sadness.
However, the wave of grief had washed over her, and she had gotten over it.
It had been practically half of Syd’s life she was gone, even if Syd only had 8 moons to her name.
Slowly, Syd drew herself to her paws and leapt from her perch. It would be long now, til her two-legs came home and gave her food, and scratches, if she was lucky.
She walked outside, and soon, her nose was overwhelmed with scents.
A few mice there, a faint dog here.
Stretched, one leg, the other, one arm, the other.
She lay down in the shade of the house and dozed off, in the though that soon, company would come.

Chapter One/Prologue Pt 2:
Syd was woken up by loud shouts, curiously.
Her fur was hot, hotter than usual in even the normally boiling Bright-Light.
She opened her eyes, to venture inside, where it was cooler.
As she stood back, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Her house, the house she had known for all her life, was now a raging, bright thing that matched the ferocity of the Bright-Light, and it was creeping towards her, like a cat to it’s prey.
Her tail had gotten to close and now was a mini Bright-Light of its own.
Panicking, she plunged it into the deep grass and it went out, however it was still sore.
Still frozen in shock, her panic only deepened as, suddenly, a loud cracking and the house slumped forward to her.
If she didn’t get out now, she knew it would be the end.
She turned and, as soon as possible, she ran, jumping over the fench and ducking beneath the bushes, and kept running…
And running…
And running…
Straight into a soft, loud thing.
“Wha-“ The thing shouted, and as Syd regained her calmness, she saw it was indeed, a striped golden cat.
The cat’s brow furrowed and she unsheathed her claws, hissing.
“What the Dark Forest are you doing in LightClan territory, rogue?”

Chapter One:
Syd retreated back a few steps, startled. She looked around, for a place to run, but nothing was familiar to her.
“My name is, uh, Syd and I’m lost. Do you know where my house is?”
The striped cat scoffed and after a second said, “Hm. So you’re a kittypet, then, yeah? I guess you can’t do much harm. I’ll ask Swiftclaw and Leafstar if I can help you. Wait here.”
Syd licked her shoulder and observed her wounds. There was a pretty deep burn on her flank, light burns on her tail, and sore pads from running so much.
She looked up as the other cat returned, with a brown, older cat with multiple scar on his face.
The new cat looked much more accepting of Syd then the golden cat. He smiled.
“Oh, so you’re the kittypet Sandpaw was talking about. Yes, she’s right, you’re only apprentice-age. Sandpaw, bring, er, Syd back to camp, I will finish up hunting.”

“Okay, Swiftclaw,” The cat, Sandpaw, mewed. “Come on.”
Sandpaw started walking in the other direction of Swiftclaw, and Syd joined her.
After a few minutes of awkward silence, Sandpaw spoke.
“Er, sorry for being agressive. We’ve been under attack from RockClan for a while, and, no offense, you kinda look like one.”
“What are these ‘Clan’ things?” Syd asked. She had heard of bands of Wild Cats out in this forest, but she always thought they weren’t real.
“You really don’t know? Well, they’re like our family and our home. First, there’s LightClan, my Clan. We live in the forest, and we’re the best. Then, as I said before, there’s RockClan. They live in the low mountains. And they’re angry at us for like, no reason. Finally, there’s SnakeClan. They live by the shore. Their territory is riddled with snakes. They’re pretty mysterious, we only really see them at Gatherings.”
Syd nodded. They approached a huge hill that smelled like many cats, both stale and fresh.
“Here we are. I guess we should get you to the medicine den. I think Spottedface is away, but Mosspaw is in, and I think she knows how to treat burns.” Sandpaw said, and led Syd over to an alcove in the hill, which appeared to be empty.
“Hey, Mosspaw? I have a cat for you to treat.”
A small, brown cat emerged from a leafy den in the corner. “You?” Mosspaw asked, gesturing towards Syd.
“Yes, I have, um, burns.” Syd said, turning to show her wounds.
Mosspaw made a small sound and went back into the den, and emerged with a couple of leaves.
“Chew. Spottedface soon.” Syd followed the apprentice’s words and started to chew the leaves, settling into a bunch of leaves on the floor.
Sandpaw sat by her.
“Mosspaw was found a few moons ago, kit-age and she refused to speak. Spottedface taught her basic words and herbs.” Sandpaw said.
“Anyway, I have to go find Swiftclaw. He has a habit of, ah, getting distracted.”
As Sandpaw walked off, and Mosspaw went back to her work, whatever it was, Syd started to drift off, still haunted by her day before.

Chapter Two
Syd was woken up by Sandpaw, nudging her front paw.
“Come on, Syd. Leafstar can see you now.” Sandpaw said.
Syd stood up, still half-asleep, and walked behind Sandpaw up the hill to a large oak tree. Both of them squeezed through a hole in the roots into a dark, warm cave-like room.
Swiftclaw and Leafstar were talking together, but stopped as the two cats jumped in.
“Ah, Sandpaw, you brought our visitor. Syd, you said?” Leafstar said, smiling.
“Um, yes, Leafstar.” Sandpaw responded.
Sandpaw and Swiftclaw moved to the side.
“Syd,” Leafstar said, seriously. “We need more warriors to fight RockClan, and you are about the age of our apprentices. Would you like to join LightClan?”
Syd was surprised, and she took a moment to think.
She had no idea of where to go to venture to get back to her den, and even if she could, she was terrified of the home she would come back to. Plus, in the short day she had spent in the woods, she had experienced more than she ever would.
