Don't you know that the kids aren't alright?
The US has legalized same sex marriage in all 50 states! After many states banned gay and lesbian marriage, the US Supreme Court has finally made it illegal to do so.
I'm feeling pretty proud of America right now.

Im reaaaally excited about this but dont forget that the states eho didnt have it legalized and even some who do have it legalized still do not have protections for sexuality and/or gender identity sooo if you go n get married there, when you update your house to put yer partner on the lease, congrats youre now homeless bc no protections, and you go to update your job papers to show youre married, youre fired, and when when your kid applies to schools they get kicked out when they see you two married. Once we have protections, itll reaaally make the difference.
Also it was a 5 to 4 vote when it shoulda heen 9 to 0 :c
But this is still a pretty big step in the right direction, so!!

Not to mention the fact that in places where it once was illegal the hate crimes are probably going to skyrocket in number due to backlash. Especially since a lot of these places have basically no gun restrictions. It's great that we're getting marriage equality, but allies are likely to take this as a sign of victory and not do much else.

Like a post on tumblr said, "We can celebrate this victory, but we can't let them lure us into complacency." It is a step in the right direction, but not a very big one or the most important step; it definitely wasn't unimportant, though! But, yes, there will still be violence, denial of service, firing from jobs, eviction, etc., until we have protections for those of us in the LGBT/MOGAI community. The right to marry was the least they could've given us, basically. It's still a start, though!
So for now, I say let's celebrate this small victory with a big, gay dance party! Turn up our favorite tunes, play some Just Dance, get some sodas, etc. Hang pride flags everywhere. Chillax for awhile. And then after that, continue to fight for our basic human rights, and hopefully be treated the same as cishet people someday.

Yaay cx They also legalized same sex marriage in Estonia a few months ago which is pretty great cx I always support people who are interested in same gender.
