Introduction
Hello! After a long time, I’ve decided that I will be doing a StarClan’s Mercy challenge. I’m kind of bored and have nothing else to do, so I hope you enjoy! And no, this does not mean I’ll be abandoning my CYOA, if you happen to read it. I’ll try to update both at least once every day, but I can’t guarantee that I always will. I’ll also be updating this thread by editing the first post. I have changed some of the rules for the challenge as well. But enough of that, I’ll just start. And yes, every single character I have absolutely has to have the prefix Silent.

Story
Newleaf 8
Silentfang stood under a boulder in the center of four large trees. She could barely believe everything that had happened in the past few days. She was the deputy of GrassClan, a clan that resided near the edge of WindClan territory. Everything had seemed like a normal, sunny day, at first. That was until WindClan had raided the camp. No one had expected it. WindClan had seemed ordinary at the time. But, nevertheless, their surprise attack succeeded in driving them out of their home. The leader, Oatstar, was murdered in battle, and the warriors scattered. He was a good leader, and hopefully rests in peace now. StarClan knows what happened to the kits and elders. Silentfang had tried to pull everyone together, but she had failed, as everyone was split up in different directions. When absolutely nothing was left of her clan, she fled towards Four Trees, hoping for a better life. She still fears of what will become of her clan’s history, and what will become of her. But for now, all she could do was wait and see.
Newleaf 10
She had followed the Thunderpath until darkness overtook the sky and the stars shined high above. She knew she needed to find a place to sleep for the night. She quickly scratched some moss off of a tree, making a temporary nest. It wasn’t really the best, but it would have to do for now. She curled up in the moss and forced her eyes closed. She couldn’t stop thinking about everything that had happened, and how unfair WindClan was. What could I possibly do now? Silentfang thought. Everything I have known for so long has been snatched away from me. Silentfang fell into a troubled sleep.
She woke up in a dark blue area. In front of her was a silvery transparent she-cat who appeared to be from StarClan. Silentfang didn’t recognize her, but before she could ask any questions she began to speak. “You must rebuild GrassClan, Silentfang.” She spoke. “But how will I-“ Silentfang began, but was cut off. “Except, you will no longer be known as GrassClan. You will rise once more as a different clan, which you will soon discover.” She meowed in an echoey voice. “It is your destiny to fulfill.” She finished. The cat began to fade. “Wait!” Silentfang exclaimed. “Silence will settle among the snakes and fight for what is meant to be." An echoey voice spoke. “What does that mean?” Silentfang asked. But the cat had already faded, leaving her alone.
Greenleaf 1
Silentfang awoke the next day, thoughtful and confused. She didn’t know what any of that could possibly mean. She frowned and hunted a little to clear her mind. After a while, she suddenly bolted upright. Of course! Silentfang thought. How could I be so mouse-brained? She started sprinting, skidding to a stop once she reached it. She panted, catching her breath. This is the place. She thought. This is where my clan is meant to be. She spent the rest of the day building everything she could.
She had finally finished, rain pouring down onto the ground. It was late into the day, and her pelt was soaked, but she didn’t care. StarClan had wanted her to bring back her clan. And she would bring back her clan. As SnakeClan. No other clans would ever dare to settle here, but this was where she was meant to be. The walls of the camp had already been set up, as well as moss for the leader’s and medicine cats’ den. She had started working on the elders’ den, but hadn’t finished. She even had a small fresh-kill pile. However, she remembered the gathering was today. No matter what, she couldn’t miss it. She began trekking towards Four Trees. She still hadn’t received her nine lives, and hoped the clans wouldn’t be hostile because of that. But, they were most likely going to be hostile whether she was Silentstar or not.
Silentfang arrived at Four Trees. It was still raining, unfortunately. The cats gave her suspicious glares and whispers. She hesitated for a second, before walking towards them with an unwavering gaze and keeping her tail held up. I have as much as a right to be here as any of them. Silentfang thought. I shouldn’t be scared.
“Who are you?” Rotstar hissed.
“Yes, and what are you doing here?” Skystar asked.
“I am Silentfang of SnakeClan. My clan was chased out by Proudstar and his warriors.” Silentfang meowed.
“There are only supposed to be four clans in the forest!” Proudstar hissed loudly.
“Hold on, at least hear what they have to say.” Clearstar remarked suspiciously.
“I have settled near Snakerocks. None of you ever go near there.” Silentfang said.
“I haven’t received my nine lives yet, but StarClan has given my approval.” Silentfang spoke.
“How do we know you’re not lying?” Skystar questioned, narrowing his eyes.
“Yeah, how can we trust you?” Someone from the crowd spoke.
The cats began protesting and talking in an uproar.
“Everyone stop!” Rotstar growled loudly, annoyed.
The crowd silenced.
“The moon is still full.” Clearstar said.
“My clan will accept you if it is StarClan’s will.” Clearstar announced.
“I suppose I will accept you as well.” Proudstar said.
“But make one move, and you’re gone!” Proudstar narrowed his eyes.
“My clan often hunts near the Great Sycamore!” Skystar hissed.
“And I don’t trust you, either!” Rotstar meowed.
“But for now, let’s just get on with the gathering.” Rotstar said.
“My clan is doing well. We have two new apprentices, Fogpaw and Otterpaw.” Rotstar announced.
The rest of the gathering went by uneventful, and was soon over.
But Silentfang doubted that all of the clans had fully allowed SnakeClan into the forest.
She wearily trudged home until she reached her camp once more. She settled down into her den and rested her eyes. She prayed that she had done well at the gathering, and that StarClan was proud of her, but she still had a growing feel of dread of whatever would be coming. This is just the beginning of a long struggle.
Greenleaf 2
Her sleep was dreamless. She awoke the next day to discover it was still raining. Great StarClan, will this rain ever stop? She thought. Now it’s just starting to get plain annoying. She made some progress with adding moss to the elders’ den. Soon all of the dens would be finished, and she could start attracting cats. But for now, she would continue to work on her camp.
Greenleaf 3
(I have not started random events yet, because the camp is unfinished. But I’ll note when I do.)
Silentfang had spent yesterday and today working as much as she possibly could on the camp. During the time, she finished the elders’ den and the warriors’ den. She didn’t put as much moss as she could have, and there were a few holes and uncovered spots, but she was in a hurry to finish the camp. She would be going to the Moonrock a few days later, where she would receive her nine lives. But otherwise, she also took some prey from the small fresh-kill pile and spread it around in the warriors’ den. Maybe I’ll be able to get some new members tomorrow. She thought, yawning, as she settled down in her nest. She let sleep overtake her until morning.
Greenleaf 4
She awoke the next day to discover strange scents coming from the warriors’ den. Silentfang was about to assume they were intruders from other clans and attack them, when she stopped and sniffed suspiciously. She smelled both ThunderClan and ShadowClan scents. They were both hostile to me at the gathering! Silentfang realized. But, I don’t think they would be attacking together, or right now, when I don’t even have any members. Silentfang remarked. She entered the den and confronted an orange she-cat along with a black-and-white tom. The two seemed to be mates.
“What are you doing here?” Silentfang asked. She felt the fur along her spine start to raise, but she forced herself to calm down. I don’t know for sure if these cats are enemies.
“We came from the clans, alright?” The black-and-white tom spoke loudly.
“Then why are you in the first place?” Silentfang narrowed her eyes.
“Don’t hurt him.” Mapleclaw growled, a little protectively.
“I have no reason to.” Silentfang replied.
“Okay, well, you better not.” Mapleclaw said, still glaring suspiciously.
“But we got exiled for being from different clans.” Mapleclaw explained.
“I know! It’s such fox-dung!” Badgerstorm exclaimed.
“The warrior code is so unfair!” Badgerstorm added on.
“When we heard about SnakeClan, we knew we had to join. I will not live as a rogue.” Mapleclaw spoke in a determined voice.
“Yeah, me neither.” Badgerstorm added on.
“Will you let us join already?” Mapleclaw questioned impatiently.
“Yeah! What’s the big deal?” Badgerstorm asked.
Silentfang didn’t speak for a few moments.
“Very well then. I need members, so I suppose I will let you join.” Silentfang decided.
“Okay, great!” Mapleclaw meowed, a little sweeter than before.
“Cool.” Badgerstorm said.
Silentfang spent the rest of the day gathering moss from trees. She wanted to get as much as the camp done as possible. When she finished, she could start hunting to stock up the fresh-kill pile. And now she had Badgerstorm and Mapleclaw to help out, too. She continued to work.
The day was almost entirely uneventful. She had added moss to the apprentices’ den, but besides that, nothing happened. She would be going to the Moonrock tomorrow to receive her nine lives and leader name. Hopefully things would start to get better when she did that. A small part of her wondered if StarClan would even allow her to get her lives, but she quickly pushed that thought away. They had wanted this. They had to. She walked into her den and settled down in her nest, falling asleep.
Greenleaf 5
Silentfang woke up the next morning, blinking her eyes drowsily. She pulled herself out of her nest, bolting upright. Intruder! She thought immediately, smelling cat scent. But when she sniffed again, she realized it was familiar. She recognized it was GrassClan scent. She ran out of camp and met with a black-and-white she-cat.
“Crescentnose?” Silentfang asked.
“Hello, Silentfang.” Crescentnose spoke quietly.
“I thought everyone was gone!” Silentfang exclaimed.
“Not me. After the clan split up, I found shelter.” Crescentnose said.
“Then I heard you were building SnakeClan and came to join.” Crescentnose finished.
“Alright, you may join.” Sillentfang decided. Crescentnose seemed calm and level-headed, unlike Mapleclaw.
“Thank you.” Crescentnose dipped her head.
Silentfang walked inside of the camp and began speaking again.
“We have two warriors so far, Badgerstorm and Mapleclaw.”
Crescentnose listened quietly. “Okay.” She said.
“I’ll be going to receive my nine lives tonight.” Silentfang announced.
“Be sure to guard the camp.” Silentfang said.
Crescentnose nodded, and walked off to tell Badgerstorm and Mapleclaw.
Silentfang spent the rest of the day gathering moss.
Night approached fast as Silentfang collected the moss. She had made some progress with the nursery. She had to be close to finishing the camp by now. But I might need to make more room in the warriors’ den. Silentfang noted, seeing the size of it. There’s not a lot of room right now. Silentfang remarked. And I still need a medicine cat. Hopefully no one gets injured. She thought. She exited the camp, heading towards the Moonrock, which was on WindClan territory. She had a feeling Proudstar had been lying at the gathering. She hoped she didn’t come across any WindClan warriors while she was going there.
It was even later when she finally arrived. She gathered supplies and set up a quick, temporary nest. She settled down onto it and closed her eyes as she touched her nose to the Moonrock and fell into a deep sleep. The world faded from her vision as she listened to the sounds of the night.
Silentfang heard the whispering of cats as she woke up in a starry cave. She saw a transparent brown tabby she-cat walk up to her. She recognized her as Owlwhisker of GrassClan. She was an elder at the time of invasion. Sadness pierced her heart when she realized she had died. How many others had died? Silentfang thought.
“Tonight, I will give you the life of wisdom and knowledge.” Owlwhisker spoke. Silentfang felt an electric shock as she was given a life. Owlwhisker disappeared and she spotted a golden tabby tom. “I give you the life of humility and dignity.” Rushclaw, as she recognized, spoke, before she felt another electric shock. She spotted a dark grey tabby she-cat approach. It was her mother, Eveningflower. “I give you the life of compassion.” She spoke, giving her a life and disappearing. Next, she saw a white she-cat approaching. “I am Shellstar. I was the leader of GrassClan before Oatstar, and I give you the life of courage.” She disappeared as another cat appeared, this time a reddish tabby tom. It was her brother, Rowanheart. “I give you the life of telling what is right and what is not.” Silentfang felt another shock before a tortoiseshell she-cat approached. “I am Mapleleaf, a medicine cat of GrassClan. I give you the life of memory, for things in the present, and for things in the past.” She felt another shock as she saw a black apprentice with white spots, known as Swiftpaw. “I give you the life of determination.” He said, and Silentfang felt another shock. A grey tabby she-cat named Rainstream approached. “I give you the life of kindness.” Finally, Silentfang saw a golden-brown tom approach. “I am Oatstar. You know me well. And I give you the life leadership.” She felt another shock before she heard her name being called. “Silentstar! Silentstar!” The StarClan cats chanted. Before she could say anything, the dream faded, and the cats disappeared.

(Errr... I accidentally saved the game after I woke up, so I wasn’t able to see Coco. Just pretend I’m Silentstar for now.)
Silentfang woke up the next day, this time as Silentstar. She got up to her paws, yawning, and stretched before removing the temporary nest she had set up by the Moonrock. She then began trekking back towards her camp, which was at the very edge of ThunderClan territory. After a few hours, she managed to make it, and entered the camp.
Silentstar approached Crescentnose as she was eating a small thrush from the fresh-kill pile a little away from the others.
“I have returned from getting my nine lives.” Silentstar announced.
Crescentnose nodded in response.
“Are you okay? You seem kind of quiet.” Silentstar remarked.
“No, I’m fine, thank you.” Crescentnose replied.
Silentstar guessed she just preferred being alone at times. She left her to her fresh-kill and went to go check up on Mapleclaw.
“Hello, Mapleclaw.” Silentstar spoke.
“Silentfang? You’re back!” Mapleclaw replied.
“Well, I guess Silentstar now.” Mapleclaw added on.
“Yes. Can you go on a border patrol with Crescentnose and Badgerstorm?” Silentstar asked.
“Okay, fine.” Mapleclaw answered, padding off.
Silentstar exited the camp and began collecting moss to finish up the nursery den. It was a boring and tedious task, but after a few trips of collecting a full inventory of moss and heading back to the camp, she managed to make a good amount of progress. She finished the nursery den and added more to the warriors' den, though she didn’t know how long it would be before she had to expand it again. She went back to the warriors’ den and talked to Badgerstorm.
“How was the patrol?” Silentstar asked.
“Pretty good.” Badgerstorm replied.
“We came across two ThunderClan cats, but we chased them off.” Badgerstorm said.
ThunderClan. We’re going to have a lot of trouble with them... Silentstar thought.
“Great.. Well, I’ll leave, now.” Silenstar meowed before heading out of the den.
She settled down into her nest and closed her eyes.
Soon, she fell into another dreamless sleep.
Greenleaf 7
Drowsily flickering her eyes, she pulled herself out of her nest. She took a few moments to wake herself up before heading out of her den and into the camp. She entered the warriors’ den and decided she would take the cats on a hunting patrol to gather more prey for the fresh-kill pile.
“Mapleclaw, Badgerstorm, Crescentnose, come for a hunting patrol.” Silentstar spoke.
“Alright.” Crescentnose answered.
“Ugh.. Do I have to?” Badgerstorm questioned, yawning.
“Yes.” Silentstar replied, annoyed.
“Let’s just go already.” Mapleclaw meowed impatiently. The cats headed out of the camp and hunted for a while in the area just south of the camp.
All they could find there was mice, but it was better than nothing. They continued to hunt for a long while. Badgerstorm, Mapleclaw, and Crescentnose all caught at least one piece of prey.
Silentstar was impressed by how much they had caught. They had done better than she had expected. Clearly they had not forgotten their hunting skills from their former clans. She had come back with a full inventory of mice, expanding the fresh-kill pile. Leaf-fall will be coming soon. Silentstar thought. And I won’t be able to hunt in leaf-bare. Silentstar remarked. It was good to be gathering more prey. But... I don’t have a deputy yet. Silentstar realized. Well, I still need more time to decide, anyways. She thought. She walked back towards her den and curled up in the moss, closing her eyes and waiting for sleep to come.
Greenleaf 8
Silentstar woke up the next morning, gaping her jaws in a wide yawn. She got up from her nest and headed out of her den, sniffing the air. She realized that there was a cat in the medicine cat’s den, and walked inside to confront the unknown cat. She saw that it was a ginger tabby she-cat and began to speak.
“Who are you?” Silentstar asked.
“I’m Hollylight!” The cat meowed happily.
“What are you doing here?” Silentstar questioned.
“I came from RiverClan! But... my brother was killed by WindClan.” Hollylight added sadly.
Seems like I’m not the only one who has been wronged by WindClan. Silentstar thought.
“I left after that. But then, I heard about SnakeClan!” Hollylight said.
“I would love it if I could help out!” Hollylight exclaimed.
“You know about herbs?” Silentstar spoke.
“Yes. I was the medicine cat of my clan.” Hollylight added on.
“Very well. You may join.” Silentstar decided.
“Great! Thank you.” Hollylight replied.
Silentstar nodded in response.
“We have three warriors so far.” Silentstar said.
“I’ll go inform them about you.” Silentstar announced before leaving.
She entered the warriors’ den and told them the clan had a medicine cat now.
After she told them, she headed back out into the clearing.
Good. We have a medicine cat now. Silentstar thought. The camp is finished, and the fresh-kill pile is growing. Silentstar remarked. Hopefully ThunderClan continues to leave us in peace.
Note: I forgot to change the clan symbol when I first got warriors, and somehow managed to forget about it through all these screenshots as well. I remembered that after I took the screenshots, but it was too late. I promise I’ll have it in the next update, though.
(Not all of your cats will appear in this update, since they were added in based on which pelt colors appeared first. However, I will try to get the rest in the next update.)
Silentstar walked downwards through the camp entrance and headed left as she began walking towards the small water puddle nearby the camp to have a quick drink. However, when she arrived, she discovered that there was no water. It was just a pile of dried up mud where the water was supposed to be. The heat of Greenleaf must have caused a drought to occur, which was understandable. But now she needed to find a new water source to drink from, and as far as she knew, the only nearby water source besides that puddle wasn’t even on her clan’s territory. Silentstar began traveling westwards in the search for another way of quenching thirst.
She arrived at the river which acted as the border between RiverClan and ThunderClan, as far as she knew. It was going to be difficult to travel this far every time she needed a drink, but it would have to do for now, at least until this drought came to an end. Although she was also worried about being around here, considering it was a border between the clans. ThunderClan certainly wouldn’t appreciate her wandering deep into their territory. And even though RiverClan had been neutral towards SnakeClan at the gathering, it wasn’t good to get in the middle of a fight between two clans. They might just attack anyone who wasn’t RiverClan, after all. And she suspected they wouldn’t be happy about Silentstar being near their territory, either. Hopefully she didn’t come across too many fights while she was visiting here. She didn’t want to stir up trouble. She pushed her thoughts aside before lowering her head over the river and lapping up a few drops of water. After she was finished, she quickly headed back towards her clan’s territory.
Silentstar spent the rest of the day gathering moss to patch up a few uncovered spots in various dens. Although she didn’t necessarily need any more moss for the camp, she could a bit of a perfectionist at times. And, seeing as the fresh-kill pile was well-stocked at the moment, she didn’t really know how else to spend the rest of her time. So, she spent a while clawing at the trees to scrounge up a good amount of moss before heading back to the camp to spread them out among the dens.
It was well past dusk by the time she had finished up her work. She had gotten a fair amount of the major patches covered up in the time she had spent collecting moss. When she had arrived back in the camp, Hollylight had collected a few Goldenrod plants for the medicine cat’s den. Good. Silentstar thought. Who knows when my clan may need those herbs? Silentstar questioned. She was hungry, but she didn’t have enough time to hunt before she went to bed. So, her eyelids heavy with tiredness, she entered the leader’s den and settled down into her nest before letting her eyes rest and falling asleep as she listened to the peaceful sounds of the nighttime forest.
Greenleaf 9
Silentstar gaped her jaws in a wide yawn, reaching out with her front paws. She exited the leader’s den, shaking her head for a brief moment to clear her mind, before she realized there was yet another strange scent coming from the warriors’ den. It smelled of loner, but behind that she could detect a very faint trace of WindClan. She entered the den and confronted the cat, who she now saw to be a white she-cat.
“Hi.” The cat meowed, flicking her tail.
“Who are you?” Silentstar asked.
I’ve said that so many times by now. Silentstar remarked in her head.
“Frostheart, why?” She spoke calmly, gazing up into the sky. She seemed to be day-dreaming.
“Well, what are you doing here?” Silentstar questioned.
“I came from WindClan.” Frostheart said.
“And I, uh, have a sister in RiverClan.” Frostheart spoke.
Silentstar’s fur bristled slightly. WindClan? She thought suspiciously.
“Relax, I’ve been a loner for a long time.” Frostheart meowed, almost seemingly reading her mind.
“Anyways, I heard about your clan in the gathering.” Frostheart continued.
“I was wondering if I could join.” Frostheart finished.
Silentstar paused for a few moments.
“Alright. You may join SnakeClan.” Silentstar decided.
“Okay, thanks.” Frostheart meowed, heading back to the warriors’ den.
Silentstar nodded and stood in the clearing, wondering what she should do today. She decided she would go deeper in the territory to hunt today. The fresh-kill pile had a large amount of mice, and although she shouldn’t really care what the majority of the food was, it still bothered her for some reason, so she decided she would aim to find some squirrels or thrushes to add some variety. She exited the camp and headed to left in search of more prey.
She had traveled west and eventually found an area that was rich in squirrels. She was really thirsty, but she didn’t have that much time to find something to drink. She stalked up on a squirrel and pounced, turning it into a carcass. She carried the squirrel and continued hunting among the trees, and the gigantic ThunderClan camp, which took up at least four tiles. She continued hunting until she caught two squirrels. Afterwards, she pondered where she should hunt next. She remembered a place called the Sandy Hollow where ThunderClan apprentices would train. While it was a risky move, she had also heard thrushes were plentiful there. So, she traveled deeper into the territory, where she began hunting thrushes. She had caught four and was just sneaking up on the fifth one when two ThunderClan cats ambushed her out of nowhere.
“That’s our prey!” Brightpool hissed.
“Mangy flea-pelt! Stealing from us!” Grayfur added.
“Listen, I don’t want a fight.” Silentstar replied cautiously.
“Then you shouldn’t have come here!” Grayfur growled.
“You have no right to be here.” Brightpool said angrily.
“Yes, I do.” Silentstar responded, gritting her teeth.
StarClan themselves had told me to settle down here. Silentstar thought.
“Skystar doesn’t want you here, and neither do we!” Grayfur hissed.
“I don’t want any trouble.” Silentstar reasoned.
But, it was no use. With those words, Grayfur let out an angry growl before leaping towards Silentstar with fangs showed. Silentstar dodged to the side, clawing at their flank, but Brightpool joined and knocked her onto her side. Brightpool clawed at her underbelly as she regained her balance. She then slashed at Brightpool’s ear, who clawed at her face in return. She quickly ducked and swiped out Brightpool’s paws from under them, unbalancing. While she was attacking them, Grayfur came up from behind and sunk their teeth into Silentstar’s hind leg. Brightpool recovered and clawed Silentstar’s side as well, before she rolled over, bringing Grayfur crashing to the ground. They let go and Silentstar then raked her claws down their side before Brightpool clawed at her tail. She sunk her teeth into their fur while Grayfur came up from behind at bit her tail. She then whipped around and landed a hard blow on Grayfur’s ear, dodging when Brightpool jumped towards her. The fight went on for a long while before the two cats eventually decided to retreat, seething with anger as they fled into the forest. Silentstar stood there, panting. Who ever knew ThunderClan cats could be so violent? She thought, traveling back towards the camp. Her back leg caused her to limp along the way, being the most serious wound.
When Silentstar arrived back in the camp, it was well into nighttime as the sun had sunk below the horizon, casting darkness upon the land. Cats watched with curiosity as she entered, wounded.
“What happened?!” Mapleclaw asked.
“ThunderClan attacked.” Silentstar replied simply.
“They really don’t seem to want us here.” Crescentnose remarked quietly.
“What for?” Frostheart questioned.
“A few thrushes.” Silentstar answered.
“How dare they!?” Mapleclaw hissed.
“All over a few pieces of prey?!” Mapleclaw growled.
“Wow.” Frostheart responded.
“Fortunately, they were chased off.” Silentstar spoke.
“That’ll teach those mangy-flea pelts to mess with us!” Badgerstorm boasted.
“I’m sure they’ll think twice next time they decide to threaten us.” Badgerstorm added.
“What are you saying, that we should attack them?” Frostheart asked.
“No one’s attacking anyone. Hopefully, not after today.” Silentstar announced.
“They better not!” Mapleclaw said.
Silentstar entered the medicine cat’s den.
“Oh no! What happened?” Hollylight asked, calmly gathering herbs.
“A fight with two ThunderClan cats.” Silentstar responded.
“Here, let me help you!” Hollylight replied cheerfully, eager to help.
After she was patched up, Silentstar headed back into the leader’s den. She settled down into her nest, closing her eyes. Exhausted, she quickly fell asleep, listening to the tranquil sounds of the forest.
Greenleaf 10
Silentstar woke up the next morning, drowsily flickering her eyes to clear the dizziness from waking up. She let out a yawn, getting out of her nest and heading out of the leader’s den to discover the scent of a different cat coming from the warriors’ den. She entered the den and confronted a dark gray tom.
“Who are you?” Silenstar asked.
“Crowflight.” The cat replied calmly.
“What are you doing here?” Silentstar questioned.
“I was in WindClan when the battle with GrassClan happened.” Crowflight spoke.
WindClan?!? Silentstar thought, the fur along her spine rising. It made her hostile to even think this cat could be from WindClan. Even more to think he had been there when the battle happened. Silentstar glared at the tom.
“That was when... my sister died.” Crowflight said, eyes blazing with anger and sadness.
Silenstar let her fur lie down and relaxed her gaze.
“I’m sorry.” Silentstar responded. But more cats in my clan have been murdered than yours ever could.
Crowflight lowered his head.
“I came here with two other cats, Firehawk and Stormfeather.” Crowflight continued.
“Can we join?” Crowflight finished.
Silenstar looked at the cat in silence for a few moments.
I’ll never forgive Proudstar for what he did! Silentstar thought angrily.
But it’s wrong of me to hold a grudge against this cat for something they could not control. Silentstar thought.
“Very well, you may join.” Silentstar spoke, dipping her head.
“Thank you.” Crowflight responded, heading back.
Silenstar decided she would take some cats out on a border patrol and headed into the warriors’ den.
“Mapleclaw, Frostheart, and Crowflight.” Silentstar announced.
“You’ll be on the border patrol today.” Silentstar continued.
“Okay.” Frostheart replied.
“Pfft, what?!” Badgerstorm questioned.
“I should be going!” Badgerstorm exclaimed.
“You’ll get to go next time.” Mapleclaw assured.
Crescentnose nodded quietly. She didn’t seem to mind.
Crowflight glanced at Crescentnose for a brief moment before turning his head away in embarrassment.
Is that a crush I see? Silentstar wondered.
“Come on. We’ll be leaving soon.” Silentstar spoke.
The cats prepared quickly before heading out of the camp and along the Thunderpath in the northern side of their territory. It was almost entirely uneventful, until they arrived at the border.
“Do you hear that?” Crowflight asked.
“Hear what?” Frostheart responded quickly.
Faint sounds could be heard in the distance.
“It could be other cats.” Mapleclaw remarked.
“Stay alert.” Silentstar spoke.
The cats went silent as the sounds grew louder.
(I wasn’t able to take a screenshot because I kept dying.)
Soon, in a flurry of claws and fur, three ShadowClan cats and two ThunderClan cats appeared out of nowhere, growling and hissing as they fought. The cats got closer, heading straight towards the four cats. “What is going o-“ Frostheart began, but was cut off as the cats attacked, claw and fang. ThunderClan fought SnakeClan, ShadowClan fought ThunderClan, and SnakeClan fought ShadowClan. Mapleclaw fought off two ShadowClan cats, attacking and leaping out of the way with skill. Crowflight clawed at the third ShadowClan cat, and Frostheart and Silentstar each attacked a ThunderClan cat. Crowflight soon wounded the ShadowClan cat and went to fight off another one attacking Mapleclaw. Silentstar wounded the ThunderClan cat and joined in attacking ShadowClan. The two were soon outnumbered and eventually either got wounded or fled, just as Frostheart chased off the other ThunderClan cat. The cats stood there for a moment, panting. Mapleclaw and Crowflight were wounded the most, their health bars red. Frostheart, however, had somehow managed to escape without a scratch. Afterwards, the cats headed back towards the camp.
Hollylight rushed out of the medicine cat’s den as they arrived.
“How are you feeling?” She asked Crowflight, already treating the wounds.
Crowflight remained quiet. He didn’t seem to like talking much.
“Hey! What happened? You okay?” Badgerstorm asked.
“We got caught up in a fight between ThunderClan and ShadowClan.” Silentstar replied.
Crescentnose didn’t say anything. She didn’t seem to have much of a reaction to the whole situation.
“They just came out of nowhere!” Mapleclaw exclaimed.
Hollylight moved on to treating Mapleclaw.
“Thank you.” Mapleclaw replied.
“Of course!” Hollylight said sweetly.
“There’s been so much fighting lately.” Frostheart noted.
“I think we should be more careful next time.” Crowflight advised.
“And stop looking for fights.” Crowflight added.
“Says who?” Badgerstorm questioned boldly.
“Just stop it, guys.” Frostheart responded.
Hollylight moved on to treating Frostheart. After a while, she finished up. Lastly, she moved on to Silentstar, until eventually everyone was treated for their wounds.
“They won’t get away with this.” Mapleclaw growled.
Silentstar decided she would leave and go to collect some more moss before the sun started to set. She could patch up the last of the uncovered spots and take a break from all this hunting and patrolling.
After a while, she had managed to collect a full inventory of moss, as well as lower her hunger and thirst a little bit. While she had been scratching a tree, a ThunderClan ambusher called Boulderclaw had appeared, but she easily defeated them in a fight. Silenstar returned to the camp and placed the moss before hunting a small mouse to fill up her hunger bar.
The sun had begun to sink under the sky as night approached. Silentstar had entered the leader’s den and curled up in her nest of moss nearby the cave. The gathering will be tomorrow. Silentstar noted. Hopefully it goes better than last time. Silentstar thought. Silentstar began wondering who she should take. Hollylight, of course. Since she’s the medicine cat. But there’s so many cats here that are former clan members. It might cause trouble if they notice them there. Maybe I should take Crescentnose. She thought. But I’ll decide that tomorrow night. Silentstar thought, letting her mind stay blank for a few moments. ThunderClan has attacked us so many times. When will all of this stop? Or is this just beginning of a long struggle? Silentstar thought. Silentstar’s sleep was restless as she couldn’t stop thinking about all that had happened. The stars mingled above and StarClan showed her no signs tonight.
Leaf-fall 1
(I managed to get everyone except for Gingerpaw and Lichenpaw, who will appear in the next update.)
Silentstar awoke the next day to a chilly breeze and brownish green grass. Leaves were scattered upon the ground and the trees were colored with orange, red, and yellow. Dragonflies buzzed around and forest creatures were preparing for the upcoming leaf-bare. It was clear now that leaf-fall had made an official arrival. The gathering is tonight. Silentstar thought, pulling herself up out of her nest. I have to decide who to take soon. Silentstar yawned, heading out of the leader’s den. Leaf-fall wasn’t particularly her favorite season, but she did feel cheerful about the change. She was so busy listening to the sounds of the forest that she almost didn’t notice many different scents coming from the warriors’ and apprentices’ dens. Silentstar headed into the apprentices’ den first, confronting a black she-cat with an unknown name.
“Who are you?” Silentstar questioned the young cat, a little less harshly than the warriors.
“Shadepaw.” The cat replied, staring back with an unwavering gaze.
“Where do you come from, Shadepaw?” Silentstar asked.
“I’m...” Shadepaw began, hesitating.
“A loner. Hollylight brought me here when she was out gathering herbs.” Shadepaw finished.
“She did?” Silentstar spoke.
“Yes. I was by myself so she took me in.” Shadepaw replied.
Silentstar looked at the cat. There was something about her that she didn’t quite trust.
No, she’s just an apprentice. She couldn’t possibly be hiding anything. Silentstar thought.
“Why are you here?” Silentstar meowed.
“Oh, no reason..” Shadepaw said.
Silentstar was puzzled by her behavior.
“But, I don’t really have anywhere to stay right now.” Shadepaw continued.
“Could I join?” Shadepaw asked.
Silentstar was suspicious about this cat. Something about her... just seems.. evil. Silentstar thought. Like she’s hiding something, or she knows something that I don’t. She thought. Oh, what am I thinking? They’re an apprentice, for StarClan’s sake. What could they possibly do? Silentstar thought.
“Of course.” Silentstar replied.
Shadepaw looked at her for a few moments before heading back.
Weird.. but probably nothing. Silentstar thought. She looked into the warriors’ den to discover a tiger-pelted tom. Silentstar noticed that he had a faint scent of WindClan, just like Crowflight, but they didn’t seem to be related in any way. She confronted him in the clearing and started to speak.
“What’s your name?” Silentstar asked the cat.
“Why do you wanna know?!” The cat replied.
Silentstar could tell they were hot-headed.
“Well, you’re in my camp, aren’t you?” Silentstar questioned.
“Firehawk, okay?” He answered.
Firehawk. Didn’t Crowflight mention him?
“What brings you here?” Silentstar spoke.
“I came from WindClan with my sister and her mentor.” Firehawk responded.
“We were in the battle with GrassClan when Ivywhisper died.” Firehawk continued.
Silentstar gritted her teeth with anger as he mentioned the battle with GrassClan. Crowflight had told her about it as well, but just thinking about how many cats died that day brought back unwanted memories. They couldn’t have done anything. Proudstar told them to attack. It’s not like they could just disobey their leader like that. Silentstar thought. She forced herself to relax. Ivywhisper must have been Crowflight’s sister. She realized.
“She was like my mother! It’s not fair!” Firehawk hissed.
“We left after that.” Firehawk finished.
“Where’s your sister?” Silentstar meowed.
“She’ll be here tomorrow.” Firehawk responded.
“Let me guess, you want to join?” Silentstar said.
“Just let us make it up to you-“ Firehawk began.
“I promise we will!” Firehawk added on.
“Very well.” Silentstar replied.
“Thanks!” Firehawk answered, heading back.
Silentstar stood in the clearing. She had one more cat which she had to talk to. She entered the apprentices’ den and spotted a leopard-pelted she-cat that looked to be about 9 moons old. She approached the cat and began speaking.
“Hello?” Silentstar asked.
“Um... hi...” The cat replied shyly.
“Who are you?” Silentstar questioned.
“S-Sparrowpaw...” The cat spoke.
“Where do you come from?” Silentstar said.
“I-I don’t really know...” Sparrowpaw responded.
“Oh, okay.” Silentstar meowed.
“Do you have a family?” Silentstar asked.
“...No.” Sparrowpaw answered.
Silentstar noticed her shyness.
Well, that’s understandable, I guess. Silentstar thought.
She doesn’t really know anyone here. Silentstar remarked.
“Would you like to join?” Silentstar questioned.
“I.. I guess.” Sparrowpaw replied.
“Well, alright.” Silentstar spoke.
The cat headed back to the apprentices’ den. I’m going to have to assign mentors for both of them soon. Silentstar thought. But... who should I choose? Silentstar wondered. She shook her head. I don’t have time for this right now. I have to get some work done before I go to the gathering tonight. She glanced at the warriors’ den. That really needs more room before even more cats decide to join. Silentstar noted. I’m going to have to expand it. She thought. She walked towards the warriors’ den, clawing at the thickets until all that was left were brambles.
Silentstar collected the brambles that were left and began placing down new thickets past the rock. She exited the camp and spent the rest of the day gathering brambles. After she had three thickets, she would go back into the camp and place them down before heading back out again to collect more.
It was night time by the time she had finished. She had managed to finish up with the replacement of the thickets and added a lot more room to the warriors’ den. She still had to fill up the empty space with moss, but she had made some progress in the short amount of time she had. Silentstar suddenly remembered the gathering. She was going to have to go soon. She entered the medicine cat’s den to find Hollylight sorting herbs. “The gathering’s tonight.” She announced. Hollylight nodded, finishing up and coming with Silentstar. Now I need to choose a warrior. Silentstar thought. Badgerstorm, Mapleclaw, or Firehawk might cause trouble at the gathering. Silentstar thought. But, even so, Firehawk was from WindClan, Mapleclaw from ThunderClan, Badgerstorm from ShadowClan... Silentstar remarked. If the cats at the gathering recognize them, that could lead to trouble. Frostheart, Crowflight, or Crescentnose might be the less risky option, but Crowflight and Frostheart also had history with the clans. So, that leaves Crescentnose. Silentstar walked into the warriors’ den, speaking to Crescentnose. “You’re coming to the gathering tonight.” Crescentnose got up, yawning. “Alright.” She said quietly. Firehawk was digging his claws into the ground with anger, but he didn’t say anything. Neither did the rest of them, other than Badgerstorm. “What?! No fair! I’m one of the best warriors here, I should go!” He protested. “Deal with it, Badgerstorm.” Frostheart replied. Badgerstorm snorted, but didn’t say anything else. Silentstar walked out of the warriors’ den. I could choose another warrior, but an apprentice could probably use the experience. Silentstar thought. Sparrowpaw is 3 moons older than Shadepaw, so she should probably go, at least this time. Silentstar entered the apprentices’ den and talked to Sparrowpaw. “Come on.” Silentstar flicked her tail. “O-okay.” Sparrowpaw replied. Shadepaw didn’t say a word. Silentstar led the cats out of the camp and past the Great Sycamore, where they walked along the Thunderpath until they reached Four Trees.
Hollylight took her place besides the other medicine cats, chatting happily. Cloudleaf and Snowheart from ThunderClan were suspicious, but the others didn’t seem to have a problem with her. Sparrowpaw kept to the side, not really wanting to join in with anyone. Crescentnose also kept to herself. Silentstar leaped onto the Highrock with the other leaders just as they were about to start with the gathering.
“What are you still doing here?” Skystar hissed.
“Your clan will not be welcomed in the forest!” Skystar protested.
“ShadowClan still doesn’t trust you, either.” Rotstar glared suspiciously at her.
Proudstar didn’t say anything, narrowing his eyes at Silentstar.
“Let’s just start with the gathering.” Clearstar said, clearly not wanting to start a fight. (I... I’m sorry.)
“RiverClan has been doing good. The fish are plenty, and we have three new kits, Pinekit, Hazelkit, and Mallowkit.” Clearstar announced. “That is all.” Clearstar spoke, dipping their head to Skystar.
“ThunderClan is great, besides the fact that SnakeClan has been invading us!” Skystar accused, growling at Silentstar. Shocked gasps came from the crowd. Hollylight shifted her paws uneasily. Sparrowpaw looked a little scared, and Crescentnose stood calmly. “Is this true?” Clearstar asked.
“SnakeClan is evil!” Someone shouted.
“How could they do this?!” A cat questioned.
“Drive them out of the forest!” One yowled.
“Everyone calm down!” Another one spoke up.
“I knew we shouldn’t have let them stay!” Someone else growled.
“Silence!” Silentstar said. (I should stop now..)
The crowd went quiet.
“This is not true. ThunderClan has been attacking us. They don’t want us on their territory. Skystar is making all of this up!” Silentstar protested.
“Liar! COWARD!” Skystar yowled.
“Skystar, now is not the time to accuse cats of things when we can’t know for sure.” Rotstar said.
How could this be? Rotstar was just as hostile as Skystar the last gathering! Silentstar thought.
Except... Could it be because ThunderClan and ShadowClan were fighting? Silentstar pondered.
She remebered the patrol she, Frostheart, Crowflight, and Mapleclaw had gotten caught up in.
“I agree. How could we know this?” Clearstar asked.
“Hold on, now.” Proudstar meowed.
“I wouldn’t put it past SnakeClan to go about killing random cats!” Proudstar said.
“We didn’t do anything except defend our territory.” Silentstar spoke, trying to remain calm.
“LIARS! All LIARS!” Skystar protested.
Silentstar looked up at the sky. Clouds were beginning to drift over the moon. Surprised gasps and whispers came from the crowd. Clearstar spoke up again.
“Everyone calm down.” Proudstar spoke.
“Yes. Rotstar, can you speak, now?” Clearstar asked.
“ShadowClan is fine. We had to deal with a few rats on our territory, but otherwise, nothing much of worth has happened.” Rotstar said, dipping his head to Proudstar.
The clouds cleared, and gasps of relief came from the cats.
“WindClan is doing well. We have a new warrior named Gorsetail, and the prey is running smoothly.” Proudstar announced, raising his head. Several cheers of “Gorsetail! Gorsetail!” came from the gathered cats.
Silentstar spoke last. “SnakeClan is also well. Our clan is growing, and we have six new warriors, along with two new apprentices and a medicine cat.” She announced. She didn’t mention any names, as she feared that if she did the cats would notice and accuse her of kidnapping. Thankfully everyone was so caught up in the drama that they didn’t seem to notice Hollylight, who used to be from RiverClan.
“Gathering dismissed, then?” Clearstar questioned.
Rotstar nodded, and the leaders jumped down from the Highrock.
“Wow. So much happened!” Hollylight exclaimed.
“It was scary..” Sparrowpaw said quietly.
“Are we going now?” Crescentnose asked.
Silentstar nodded, and flicked her tail for the cats to go. She followed behind them. Almost out of nowhere, Skystar appeared behind her and hissed lowly. “This isn’t over.” He said. Silentstar jumped, turning around, but Skystar had already started to walk away. She shook her head before moving into a trot and taking the lead as the cats headed back towards the camp.
They arrived back at the camp, Hollylight headed back towards the medicine cat den, Sparrowpaw walking towards the apprentices’ den, and Crescentnose entering the warriors’ den. The warriors were gossiping about the gathering.
“Skystar accused US of invading them!?!” Firehawk hissed.
“Those mangy flea-pelted pieces of fox-dung!” Firehawk growled.
“How could they do that?!” Mapleclaw exclaimed.
“Those cats aren’t right.” Crowflight shook his head.
“Yeah, why would he do that?” Frostheart asked.
“They better not mess with us!” Badgerstorm boasted.
“Or I’ll claw their pelts off!” Badgerstorm said.
Crescentnose ignored them.
Even Sparrowpaw and Shadepaw talked a little.
But Silentstar decided she should just go to bed for now. She walked into the leader’s den and curled up next to the rock wall. Her gray eyes showed up faintly in the darkness, before she closed them, and let herself drift off into sleep for the night.
Leaf-fall 2
Silentstar blinked open her eyes to the sunlight streaming through the thickets of her den. She yawned, stretching, before eventually making herself get out of her nest. She was still extremely tired from the gathering last night, but she was the leader, and she had to keep awake for her clan’s sake. She yawned once more before wearily trudging out into the clearing and glancing around. After a little bit of daydreaming, she pulled herself back into reality when she realized she could scent two new cats in the camp. One of them was another WindClan scent coming from the warriors’ den, the other was a RiverClan scent coming from the nursery den. Silentstar decided she would see who was in the nursery first, entering the nursery den and discovering an ember-pelted she-kit who appeared to be alone. She began speaking to the kit.
“Hi!” The kitten meowed.
“I’m Emberkit.” She said sweetly.
Silentstar looked around. She seemed to be alone.
“Where's your parents?” Silentstar asked.
The kit’s eyes clouded with sadness.
“I’m sorry...” Silentstar replied.
“It’s not your fault.” Emberkit responded.
“Would you wanna join?” Silentstar questioned.
“Sure!” Emberkit said, happier.
“Welcome to the clan.” Silentstar spoke.
“Thank you!” Emberkit piped.
Silentstar nodded in response.
“A new kit!” Hollylight exclaimed as they were coming out of the medicine cat’s den.
“She’s adorable!” Hollylight meowed.
“Hi! I’m Emberkit!” Emberkit greeted.
Silentstar left the two as they chatted. Hollylight was caring, so it was understandable that she naturally wanted to take care of it. She just hoped that Hollylight would find an apprentice soon. Silentstar had a feeling that this kit would end up being a warrior, not a medicine cat, so that eliminated that option. She entered the warriors’ den to discover an unfamiliar mottled gray she-cat. She walked towards the cat and confronted them.
“Who are you?” Silentstar asked.
“Stormfeather!” The cat replied, a little quicker than other cats had.
She must be Firehawk’s brother. Silentstar thought.
“Firehawk is my brother. We’re both from WindClan!” She meowed.
“We came to help out.” Stormfeather added on.
“I suppose you want to join, too?” Silentstar guessed.
“Of course! If that’s okay?” Stormfeather asked.
“Yes, it is.” Silentstar replied.
“Since Firehawk and Crowflight already joined,” Silenstar began.
“You might as well join, too.” Silentstar finished.
“Thank you! I couldn’t ask for more!” Stormfeather exclaimed.
“We promise to be great clan members!” Stormfeather added on.
Silentstar nodded in response.
Stormfeather headed back into the warriors’ den, chatting to her brother with excitement.
Silentstar stood in the clearing for a moment before passing through the entrance of the camp. When she arrived outside, she stopped by a tree and began scratching off moss. When she had gathered a sufficient amount, she headed back towards the camp to place it inside of the warriors’ den. Silentstar spent the rest of the day repeating that process.
By the time she had finished, it was well into the night. She had finished adding moss to the warriors’ den and rearranged some of the prey. She was pleased with the progress, as well as how good the camp looked after it was complete. When she had first arrived at Snakerocks, she had no idea how she was going to make this place a livable area, let alone build a camp in the first place, with all the rocks in the way. Now, the snakes didn’t even show up anymore. Silentstar was even happy with how it looked. I still need to assign Sparrowpaw and Shadepaw mentors, though. Silentstar thought. And I’m going to have to choose a deputy soon. She thought. But for now, she headed back into the leader’s den and settled down in the moss. She let her eyes close and soon found darkness taking over her vision.
Leaf-fall 3
The morning sounds of birds chirping and leaves blowing in the breeze woke her up from her sleep. She forced her eyes open and got up from her nest, padding outside of her den. She yawned, blinking, as dragonflies continued to buzz around. She sniffed the air, realizing there was yet another strange scent coming from the warriors’ den. She walked through the entrance to discover another mottled gray cat who appeared to be fast asleep. Silentstar hesitantly approached and nudged the cat, but they ignored it. She nudged them harder until they eventually got up from their nest.
“Hey.” The cat spoke.
“Who are you?” Silentstar questioned.
“Wolfpelt.” The cat replied.
“And... what are you doing here?”
“Well, I was sleeping..” Wolfpelt spoke.
“Until you decided to wake me up.” Wolfpelt said.
“Because you were kind of sleeping in my camp.” Silentstar remarked.
“...Whoops.” Wolfpelt responded.
“Anyways, where do you come from?” Silentstar asked.
“ThunderClan, originally.” Wolfpelt started.
“I got kicked out, though.” Wolfpelt added on.
“Why?” Silentstar meowed curiously.
“I was framed for something.” Wolfpelt answered.
“For what?” Silentstar questioned.
“Eh, it doesn’t matter.” Wolfpelt answered.
Silentstar looked at the cat suspiciously.
“What?” Wolfpelt asked.
“Nothing.” Silentstar replied.
“Anyways, I guess you wanna join, then?” Silentstar spoke.
“Yeah.” Wolfpelt responded.
Silentstar didn’t say anything.
“Alright. You can join.” Silentstar decided.
“Okay, cool.” Wolfpelt said before heading back.
Silentstar stood in the clearing for a few moments, thinking about who she should choose to mentor Shadepaw and Sparrowpaw. Perhaps Sparrowpaw would be better off being trained by someone more like her, so she feels more comfortable. Silentstar thought. Shadepaw.. Maybe Crowflight, or Mapleclaw? Silentstar wondered. I don’t really know yet. But I’ll have to decide by the end of today, that’s for sure.
(Vegan-Oh, I just realized, I can edit these screenshots. Do you want me to edit Emberkit’s pelt to make it look like Ember? I could probably do that. Edit: You didn’t reply, so I just did it anyways.)
Silentstar resumed her thoughts as she pondered about which apprentices she should give to which warriors. Firehawk and Stormfeather only received their warrior names a few moons ago. Silentstar thought. I don’t think they would be the best choice, considering how young they are. Silentstar remarked. Badgerstorm... I don’t know. There’s better options. Mapleclaw... She does have anger issues sometimes, but she could make a good mentor. However, there’s still probably better options. Silentstar thought. Wolfpelt.. She’s a little young, and she just joined today. Probably not. Silentstar noted. Frostheart... Maybe, but Crowflight and Crescentnose are the oldest and most experienced out of all the warriors. They would probably make the best choice. Crescentnose could mentor Sparrowpaw, and Crowflight could mentor Shadepaw. Silentstar decided. I just hope that they don’t mind who their mentors are.Because I forgot to put Preferred Mentor in the joining form.. Silentstar thought. She leaped onto the fallen tree, which she had decided would be the gathering place long before she had started the camp, and cleared her throat.
“May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highlog for a clan meeting.” Silentstar announced. Hollylight exited the medicine cat’s den and sat down in the clearing. Warriors came spilling out from the warriors’ den, one by one, and finally Shadepaw and Sparrowpaw came out from the apprentices’ den. Sparrowpaw appeared to be a mixture of excited and nervous. Shadepaw had a blank expression on her face.
“Sparrowpaw, you are well past the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Sparrowpaw. Your mentor will be Crescentnose. I hope Crescentnose will pass down all she knows on to you.” Silentstar began. Crescentnose's eyes widened with surprise.
“Crescentnose, please step forward.” Silentstar continued.
Crescentnose stepped forward.
“Crescentnose, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from your former mentor, and you have shown yourself to be a loyal member of your clan and a great hunter. You will be the mentor of Sparrowpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to her.” Silentstar finished.
The two cats touched noses and cats from the clan began cheering out her name. “Sparrowpaw! Sparrowpaw!” Sparrowpaw looked a little embarrassed and quickly retreated to her spot in the crowd, clearly not enjoying being the center of attention.
“But that is not all I have called this gathering for.” Silentstar spoke.
Shadepaw looked up at Silentstar, unimpressed.
“Shadepaw, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Shadepaw. Your mentor will be Crowflight. I hope Crowflight will pass down all he knows on to you.” Shadepaw remained unfazed by everything. Crowflight nodded, trying to look calm.
“Crowflight, please step forward.” Silentstar said.
Crowflight stepped forward.
“Crowflight, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from your former mentor, and you have shown yourself to be calm and strong-willed. You will be the mentor of Shadepaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to her.” Silentstar continued.
The two cats touched noses and cats from the clan began cheering out her name. “Shadepaw! Shadepaw!” Shadepaw calmly headed back to her spot. She didn’t seem to be nervous or excited at all. In fact, she acted as if it was just a normal day, or something that had to be done. Silentstar was puzzled by her behavior, as she often was, but she ignored it. Silentstar flicked her tail and dismissed the cats back to their dens. Sparrowpaw and Shadepaw both remained with their mentors, as they didn’t really have any family in the clan. Silentstar approached the four cats and began speaking.
“What are you planning on doing?” Silentstar asked them.
“I think we should go hunting.” Crescentnose suggested.
“And get them familiar with the territory.” Crowflight added on.
“O-Okay..” Sparrowpaw said quietly.
“Whatever, I guess.” Shadepaw spoke.
Silentstar nodded. “Sounds good.”
The cats headed out of the entrance to the camp and wandered deeper into the forest, trees surrounding them on all sides. Eventually, they found a good hunting spot and stopped. They then began to hunt, sneaking up on a thrush as it was pecking at something.
The trees blocked a lot of their view and there were sticks all over the place, which made hunting difficult. I miss GrassClan. I miss hunting on the moors. Silentstar thought before shaking her head. Now isn’t the time for that. The four cats slowly creeped up on the thrush, and paused once they were within striking distance. Shadepaw was the first to leap, pinning it to the ground and efficiently snapping its neck. “Good job, Shadepaw!” Crowflight praised. Shadepaw didn’t reply, burying the thrush for later. They continued hunting for a while longer, both apprentices catching prey. Silentstar noticed once again that Crowflight was glancing at Crescentnose every once in a while, who didn’t really seem to notice. After a good while of hunting, the five cats headed back towards the camp. They walked through the entrance and Shadepaw and Sparrowpaw headed back towards the apprentices’ den, tired, along with Crowflight and Crescentnose heading back towards the warriors’ den.
Shadepaw had caught one thrush and one mouse, while Sparrowpaw had caught two thrushes and one mouse. Both of them had chased off a number of prey, however. They seemed to almost entirely ignore the sticks that were scattered about, walking as if they weren’t even there. But they would soon learn within time. Silentstar had also cleared up all of the prey lying around in the warriors’ den and returned them to the fresh-kill pile. Unfortunately, she still wasn’t able to remove a squirrel that had gotten stuck in a thicket, since if she were to remove the thicket to retrieve the squirrel, she wouldn’t be able to place another thicket. However, it didn’t bother her that much.
Silentstar placed the prey from the hunting patrol on the fresh-kill pile as well before padding towards the leader’s den and walking through the entrance. She then settled down into her nest of moss before wrapping her tail around her nose and closing her eyes. The world began to fade as she slowly fell to sleep.
Leaf-fall 4
She woke up the next day, yawning and shaking a few scraps of moss off of her pelt. She got up from her nest and passed through the entrance to the leader’s den and into the clearing to find a new scent originating from the apprentices’ den. Silentstar followed it and walked into the den to discover a silver tabby she-cat who appeared to be about 7 moons old. Unlike most cats, she didn’t really smell like a specific clan. More like a rogue. She confronted the cat in the clearing.
“What are you doing here?” Silentstar asked.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause trouble.” The cat replied.
“In fact, I didn’t mean to come here at all.” She continued.
“I was just wandering around when I accidentally found your camp.” She spoke.
“I hope I didn’t disturb anyone, or something.” The young cat said.
“That’s fine.” Silentstar responded.
“Anyways, what’s your name?” Silentstar questioned.
“My what?” The cat exclaimed confusedly.
“I mean, Lichen.” She replied.
“Where are your parents?” Silentstar meowed.
“I......” Lichen said, but didn’t finish the sentence.
She seemed to be lost in thought for a few moments, not saying a word.
“Hello? Are you still there?” Silentstar was puzzled.
Lichen remained silent for a few moments.
“Um, where?” Lichen asked.
“You weren’t talking?” Silentstar said, more question-like than a statement.
“Oh, uh, right, sorry.” Lichen replied, glancing behind her for a brief moment.
“Anyways, that’s how I ended up here.” Lichen finished.
“Well, alright.” Silentstar replied. She seems kind of lonely. Silentstar remarked.
“Would you like to join? We have a clan, SnakeClan.” Silentstar suggested.
Lichen didn’t say anything for a few seconds, as if thinking.
“Okay, yes.” Lichen decided.
Stormfeather suddenly came, seemingly out of nowhere, and approached Silentstar. She seemed to be in distress, and Silentstar wondered what was wrong. She hadn’t seemed like the type to be panicked over nothing when she had first met her. Soon, her questions were answered when Stormfeather began speaking.
“Silentstar! Something’s wrong.” Stormfeather spoke.
“What is it?” Silentstar questioned.
“Emberkit isn’t the nursery!” Stormfeather said.
“What?! Did you check everywh-“ Silentstar began.
“Yes, and I couldn’t find her!” Stormfeather cut off her sentence.
“Crowflight thinks something could have happened to her.” Stormfeather meowed.
“Okay, I’ll send a patrol to search the north and west sides of our camp.” Silentstar announced.
“You can go with Firehawk, Frostheart, and Crescentnose.” Silentstar continued.
“I’ll go check the south side by myself.” Silentstar spoke.
“Are you su-“ Stormfeather began.
“Yes, I’m sure. Now go.” Silentstar flicked her tail towards the warriors’ den.
Stormfeather nodded and padded off to find them.
Silentstar headed out through the entrance.
The first thing she saw was Emberkit, standing by a dark green-ferned bush with bright red berries, which she immediately recognized with panic and shock as a deathberry bush. Everything seemed to go in slow motion. Emberkit was already chewing one of the berries. Silentstar tried to warn her to spit it out immediately, but by the time she could even register what was happening, it was too late. Emberkit swallowed the deathberry, and for a few seconds, nothing happened. Until she began foaming at the mouth, convulsing violently, and coughing.
“No!” Silentstar exclaimed, rushing towards the kit, who was on her side, coughing and foaming uncontrollably. “No, no, no..” Silentstar said. “Why did you eat it.. Where did it even come from?!” Silentstar spoke, more to herself than the kit, who couldn’t even reply in this state. Panic began to set in as Silentstar didn’t know what to do. Eventually, she brought herself together and summoned up the courage to grab the kit and make a run for the camp. She barged through the camp entrance and dashed as fast as she could into the medicine cat’s den, almost running into a wall, before setting her down. Hollylight, who was sorting herbs, looked up with surprise at the two. “What hap-“ She began speaking. “Emberkit ate deathberries! I tried to stop her, but it was too late!” Silentstar cut her off. “Don’t worry. Just wait outside, and I’ll do what I can.” Hollylight replied. Silentstar wondered how she managed to stay so calm in situations like this, but did as she said and waited just outside the medicine cat’s den as Hollylight tended to Emberkit.
Silentstar was praying to StarClan that Hollylight could heal Emberkit in time, with whatever herbs she used. From what she could tell, Hollylight had grabbed some white flowers, which she believed were called yarrow. Hopefully they would extract the poison soon. But for now, all she could really do was stand there and wait for the medicine cat to do their job, which was a little frustrating, but it was the best hope. As the time grew longer and longer, Silentstar started to become more and more stressed that something had gone wrong. She began counting the seconds as they seemed to pass by so slowly. Then minutes. Until eventually she heard Hollylight call her back in again. At first she was worried that Emberkit hadn’t made it. But relief flooded over her when she saw her standing, alive as ever, next to Hollylight. “Thank you.” Silentstar responded. “Of course!” Hollylight meowed back. “She should probably go to the nursery den. She needs rest after today.” Hollylight spoke. Silentstar nodded, and Emberkit returned to the nursery. Silentstar felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She could have easily died there. Silentstar thought. Where did that deathberry bush even come from, anyways? Silentstar questioned. I don’t remember that being there before. Silentstar remarked. She shrugged it off before wondering what she should do for the rest of the day. She decided she would go on a border patrol, partly to make sure ThunderClan wasn’t ignoring the borders they had set up before, partly to make sure there weren’t any other deathberry bushes around, although she doubted that Emberkit would eat them twice in a row. She entered the warriors’ den and called Wolfpelt and Firehawk to go hunting. “Okay.” Wolfpelt replied, flicking her tail. “Alright!” Firehawk answered. Silentstar exited the warriors’ den. She figured she should bring an apprentice as well. Since Lichen was the newest so far, she guessed she would bring her. She still didn’t have a mentor, or her apprentice name, yet, but Silentstar decided she could do that tomorrow. She entered the apprentices’ den and called Lichen to come with the patrol. “Uh.. Yes?” Lichen responded. Silentstar could tell that she was still bad at conversation, but that was understandable, considering she had been living as a rogue for such a long time. She led the three cats out of the camp and began making her way westwards to the southern side of their border.
Eventually, they arrived, and began renewing the border. After they had finished, Silentstar was surprised when not one ThunderClan cat had appeared. Sure, it’s not like she had wanted an encounter to happen. In fact, quite the opposite. But it still made her feel uneasy when nothing happened. Are they planning something? Silentstar pondered. And if they are, what are they planning? And when will it happen? Silentstar asked herself. She shook her head. This is only one side of the border. We’ll probably end up getting into trouble some time or another. Silentstar thought. “Come on,” Silentstar spoke, flicking her tail for the cats to follow. They did, and Silentstar led the way to the northern side of the border, passing by the Great Sycamore and walking beside the Thunderpath until they reached it.
Silentstar had really begun to feel uneasy now. ThunderClan and ShadowClan used to fight here non-stop. What’s happening right now? Silentstar thought. Surely ThunderClan isn't planning an invasion? Silentstar wondered. She remembered what Skystar had told her at the gathering. “This isn’t over.” Silentstar thought. They clearly don’t want us here. So why hasn’t Skystar sent any cats to come and attack us yet? Silentstar questioned. Or is he brainstorming something even bigger? Silentstar thought. It made her shiver to think that her camp could be invaded, and all her hard work would go to waste. Just because some selfish leader doesn’t want us on our territory. Silentstar thought. She started listening to what the other cats were talking about. “Huh. No one showed up.” Wolfpelt noted. “They better not! Or I’ll claw their fur off!” Firehawk growled. “Maybe it’s good they’re not attacking.” Lichenpaw suggested. “I doubt that.” Firehawk replied. “ThunderClan are planning something, aren’t they?!” Firehawk hissed. “Relax. Maybe they’re planning something, maybe they’re not, but for now let’s just head back.” Wolfpelt meowed. Firehawk sent a glare towards Wolfpelt. “Who died and made you leader?” Firehawk hissed. “What did you just say?” Wolfpelt asked. “Stop fighting.” Lichenpaw spoke up. “Come on. We’re going.” Silentstar announced, flicking her tail and walking off in the opposite direction. The cats followed after her and they passed by the Great Sycamore once more before arriving in the camp. Wolfpelt and Firehawk both headed back into the warriors’ den, while Lichenpaw walked into the apprentices’ den.
The sun had begun to fall as night was approaching quickly. Silentstar stood by the entrance to the camp. She still had an hour left before she went to her nest. What should I do? Silentstar wondered. I don’t have enough time to go hunting or anything, but I still have a good while before I have to go to sleep. Silentstar remarked. She stood there thinking for a while before deciding she would go visit Emberkit and make sure she was doing okay. She hadn’t really talked to her since she ate the deathberry.
She passed by the apprentices’ den and the warriors’ den before stopping at the entrance to the nursery den and glancing inside. Emberkit was still awake. She entered and began speaking.
“How’re you doing?” Silentstar asked.
“Good!” Emberkit replied.
“I feel better now.” Emberkit added on.
“Why did you eat those deathberries?” Silentstar questioned.
“I don’t know. They looked so tasty...” Emberkit responded.
“I’m sorry.” Emberkit meowed.
Aw.. Who could be angry at a kitten?
“It’s okay.” Silentstar replied.
“Just don’t go wandering off again.” Silentstar spoke.
“I promise I won’t.” Emberkit answered.
“And don’t eat anything if you don’t know it’s okay to eat.” Silentstar said.
Emberkit nodded. She looked like she was about to fall asleep.
Silentstar exited the nursery den and walked into the clearing. It was fully nighttime by now, and she could finally go to her nest. She padded towards the leader’s den and went through the entrance, walking a few steps towards her bed of moss before lying down and closing her eyes. She then let herself drift off into sleep.
Leaf-fall 5
Silentstar woke up the next morning in the fifth of leaf-fall. I’ll be going to the Moonrock with Hollylight tonight. She reminded herself, yawning. She got up to her paws and walked out of her nest, heading outside the leader’s den and into the clearing, where she smelled a new scent coming from the medicine cat’s den. Did Hollylight find a wounded cat overnight? Silentstar wondered. No, not possible. I don’t smell any injuries. Silentstar remarked. She decided she would go and confront this cat, heading into the medicine cat den. When she entered, she saw a ginger tabby she-cat who appeared to be about 8 moons old. She also smelled faintly of WindClan. Silentstar began talking to her in the clearing.
“Who are you?” Silentstar asked.
“Gingerpaw.” The cat replied.
“What are you doing here?” Silentstar questioned.
“I was hoping to join.” Gingerpaw answered.
“If I can?” Gingerpaw meowed.
Silentstar looked at the cat.
“Where do you come from?” Silentstar asked cautiously.
“WindClan. I was the former medicine cat apprentice there...” Gingerpaw responded.
“But then I got exiled.” Gingerpaw spoke sadly.
“Why?” Silentstar said.
“It’s a long story.” Gingerpaw sighed.
“That was after the gathering.” Gingerpaw continued.
“I heard you were building SnakeClan.” Gingerpaw meowed.
“So after I became a rogue, I decided I would come here.” Gingerpaw finished.
“I doubt any of the other clans would accept me.” Gingerpaw added on.
“I was hoping that you would, since you look like you need members.” Gingerpaw spoke.
Silentstar glanced at her for a brief moment, thinking.
Hollylight won’t be around forever. Silentstar thought.
And we do need a medicine cat apprentice. Silentstar pondered.
“Very well. You may join.” Silentstar decided.
“Yay! Thank you.” Gingerpaw replied, a little hyper.
Silentstar nodded in reply.
“Perfect that you decided to show up right on the fifth of leaf-fall.” Silentstar responded.
“Anyways, I’m sure Hollylight needs your help.” Silentstar added on.
Gingerpaw headed back to the medicine cat’s den.
Silentstar stood in the middle of the clearing, thinking about what she should do next. I’m getting a lot of apprentices lately. She thought. I should probably assign Lichenpaw a mentor, and soon. Silentstar remarked. Crowflight and Crescentnose are already mentors, so they can be eliminated. Silentstar noted. Firehawk and Stormfeather are still new warriors, so I think they can wait a little while. Silentstar pondered. Which leaves Mapleclaw, Badgerstorm, Frostheart, and Wolfpelt. Silentstar thought. Wolfpelt is still kind of new, so she can wait too. Badgerstorm and Mapleclaw were some of the first members to join, so they have a lot of experience. But Frostheart’s still the oldest among them, and she isn’t really that new to the clan, either, considering she was the fifth member to join. Silentstar thought for a while longer before she eventually made her decision.
“May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highlog for a clan meeting.” Silentstar called out. Hollylight and Gingerpaw walked out of the medicine cat’s den. Emberkit peeked out, but Mapleclaw told her to go back inside. The warriors and apprentices eventually began filling up the clearing until everyone had arrived. Most of them seemed curious as to what the gathering was about. Silentstar glanced down at the cats and began speaking.
“Lichen, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Lichenpaw. Your mentor will be Frostheart. I hope Frostheart will pass down all she knows on to you.” Frostheart looked surprised. Lichenpaw was nervously shifting her paws, eyes wide with eagerness and excitement that she was going to become an apprentice.
“Frostheart, please step forward.” Silentstar said.
Frostheart stepped forward.
“Frostheart, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from your former mentor, and you have shown yourself to be patient as well as a skillful hunter. You will be the mentor of Lichenpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to her.” Silentstar finished.
The two cats touched noses and cats from the clan began cheering out her name. “Lichenpaw! Lichenpaw!” Lichenpaw’s eyes shone with happiness. After the ceremony was done, the two cats returned to their places in the crowd, and Silentstar flicked her tail, dismissing the cats from the gathering.
(I couldn’t get Crowpaw, Foxpaw, or Wrenpaw in this update. I’ll try to get them in the next.)
Silentstar jumped down from the Highlog and landed on the now empty clearing. She stood there for a little bit longer, wondering what she should do for the rest of the day. ThunderClan is too busy fighting with ShadowClan to deal with us. Silentstar thought. Thankfully Skystar shouldn’t be sending that many patrols here, for now. But that won’t last forever. Silentstar remarked. The camp is pretty much finished, so I don’t need to collect brambles or moss anymore. Silentstar noted. I suppose Lichenpaw could use some training. And it wouldn’t hurt to have extra fresh-kill for when leaf-bare arrives. Silentstar thought. She entered the warriors’ den and looked around for Frostheart. When she spotted her, she padded up to her and began speaking. “Hunting patrol.” Silentstar said. Frostheart nodded in response. Silentstar guessed she would take one of the newer warriors out with them. They could use some getting used to SnakeClan territory. Since she took Firehawk and Wolfpelt last time, she figured she could have Stormfeather come along. “We’re going hunting. Come on.” Silentstar meowed to Stormfeather. “Okay!” Stormfeather spoke in response. Silentstar exited the warriors’ den before heading into the apprentices’ den and talking to Lichenpaw. “Come on a hunting patrol.” Silentstar flicked her tail. “Me?” Lichenpaw asked. “Yes, you.” Silentstar replied. “Oh, right. Sure.” Lichenpaw responded. Silentstar led the way out of the camp entrance and headed into the forest to find a good hunting spot.
Eventually, they found a place with thrushes and mice and decided to stop and hunt. The sticks and trees everywhere once again made hunting difficult when you were traveling in groups. If one cat made a mistake then all the prey could be chased off. This was why she preferred hunting alone, but they did need the training. Silentstar was also beginning to feel a little homesick, but she pushed her thoughts of her old life away. SnakeClan is my new clan now. And I won’t let what happened to GrassClan with WindClan happen again to SnakeClan with ThunderClan. Silentstar thought. The four cats continued hunting for a while longer. Once they had caught three thrushes and two mice, Silentstar decided she would go back to camp. Lichenpaw hadn’t done too bad in hunting, but she had still chased off a few. They walked back towards the camp and split up at the entrance. Frostheart and Stormfeather returned to the warriors’ den, and Lichenpaw returned to the apprentices den. Silentstar decided she would visit Hollylight and Gingerpaw and walked upwards to the medicine cats’ den. “Hi, Hollylight.” Silentstar spoke. “I think it’s time.” Hollylight replied. Silentstar was a bit confused at first, then glanced towards Gingerpaw and nodded her head. “I’ll call a gathering.” Silentstar responded. She exited the medicine cats’ den before climbing the Highlog and speaking.
“May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highlog for a clan meeting.” Silentstar announced. Cats poured out of the warriors’ and apprentices’ den. Hollylight and Gingerpaw followed afterwards. Once everyone had gathered in the clearing, Silentstar dipped her head to Hollylight.
"Cats of SnakeClan, as you know, I will not be around forever. So it's time I took an apprentice. I have chosen a cat who has shown determination and a will to heal. Your next medicine cat will be Gingerpaw.” Hollylight spoke.
"Gingerpaw, do you accept the post of apprentice to Hollylight?” Silentstar asked.
“I do.” Gingerpaw replied.
"Then at the half-moon, you must travel to the Moonrock to be accepted by StarClan.” Hollylight announced.
“The good wishes of all SnakeClan cats will go with you.” Silentstar said.
The two cats touched noses and cats from the clan began cheering out her name. “Gingerpaw! Gingerpaw!” Gingerpaw shone with excitement while Hollylight had a look of pride and happiness. The cats headed back into the crowd as Silentstar flicked her tail and dismissed the cats from the gathering. Hollylight and Gingerpaw headed back into the medicine cat’s den, and soon the clearing became empty. Silentstar hunted for a little bit before the sun started to sink further beneath the horizon. She headed back to the camp and walked into the medicine cat’s den.
“Are you ready to leave?” Silentstar asked them. Hollylight nodded in reply. “Yep!” Added on Gingerpaw. “Let’s go.” Silentstar announced, flicking her tail and heading back out of the medicine cat’s den with Hollylight and Gingerpaw following. They exited the camp and began the long journey to the Moonrock in WindClan territory. Last time I visited the Moonrock was when I was just getting my nine lives and name. Silentstar remarked. I barely had any members back then. How times have changed. Silentstar thought. Hopefully we don’t run into any WindClan patrols. Thankfully, Proudstar doesn’t seem to care about us as long as we’re out of his territory. ThunderClan was that way too. Now that we set up camp there, they’ve turned hostile on us as well. No one wants to give up anything. Silentstar thought. If only the clans could be a little less selfish.
She was so lost in thought she barely noticed when she spotted the Moonrock towering above in the distance. The sky was growing darker, and she picked up her pace. They soon reached it a few moments later, pausing for a few seconds before Silentstar heard Hollylight starting to speak.
“Gingerpaw, is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?” Hollylight questioned.
“It is.” Gingerpaw replied certainly.
"Then come forward.” Hollylight answered.
Gingerpaw did as she said.
"Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this apprentice. She has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight so that she may understand your ways and heal her Clan in accordance with your will.” Hollylight finished.
Gingerpaw walked up to the Moonrock and settled down onto the ground, pressing her nose to the Moonrock. Hollylight followed afterwards, and soon both cats were fast asleep. Silentstar followed lastly, laying down and pressing her muzzle against the cold surface. But soon, she felt herself drift off into sleep, as reality faded away and she slowly began to dream.
When she woke up, she appeared to be in some blue void. She panicked at first, glancing around, looking for somewhere to go. But she calmed down when a golden-brown cat appeared in front of her. Silentstar recognized him as Oatstar, the former leader of GrassClan. “Well done, Silentstar.” Oatstar praised. “SnakeClan has come a long ways from when it first started.” Oatstar spoke. “But this time of peace won’t last forever. You and I both know that.” Oatstar said. “The time has come, Silentstar. You must choose a deputy.” Oatstar announced. “I haven’t had the ti-” Silentstar began. “You can’t stall this for any longer.” Oatstar cut off her words. “I’m not stalling.” Silentstar objected. “Bigger things are coming. And you have to be prepared for when it happens.” Oatstar meowed. “For when what happens?” Silentstar asked. “When the home of the clouds appears out of nowhere, snakes will die and silence will fall.” Oatstar meowed before beginning to fade. “Wait, don’t go!” Silentstar protested. “What do you mean by that? What will happen?” Silentstar questioned. Oatstar didn’t reply, fading away further. “No!” Silentstar said, leaping towards the StarClan cat. But it was too late, as he had already faded, leaving Silentstar alone in the blue void. She could hear the faint sound of birds chirping in the distance and smell the grassy moors. Blinking open her eyes, she reappeared in the world once more.
Leaf-fall 6
Typical StarClan. Silentstar sighed. Always coming up with these confusing prophecies instead of just telling us directly. “How did it go?” Silentstar asked Hollylight and Gingerpaw. “Great! I saw these starry cats and they told me things so now I’m the medicine cat apprentice officially and I can do more stuff and receive dreams and-“ Gingerpaw exclaimed. “Slow down.” Hollylight meowed. “Sorry.” Gingerpaw replied. Silentstar stopped listening as they continued chatting. Oh... do I tell them, or not? Silentstar pondered. After a few more moments of thinking, she decided. If I don’t say anything now, I probably won’t say anything later. “Hollylight, can I speak to you?” Silentstar questioned. “What about me?” Gingerpaw asked. I’ll leave it up to Hollylight to decide whether to tell Gingerpaw or not. But for now, I’ll leave her out of this. “No, not yet.” Silentstar replied. “Oh. Okay then.” Gingerpaw said. Silentstar walked little further off. “What is it?” Hollylight asked. “I had a dream last night. A prophecy.” Silentstar spoke. “What did it say? I’ll try my best to tell you what it means!” Hollylight meowed. “Something along the lines of ‘When the home of the clouds appears out of nowhere, snakes will die and silence will fall.’ Do you have any idea what that could mean?” Silentstar answered. Hollylight remained quiet for a moment. “‘Snakes will die.’ We already chased off all of the snakes at Snakerocks.” Hollylight replied. “It could only mean SnakeClan members will die.” Hollylight remarked. “'Silence will fall.’ It could mean Silentstar, but... I’m not sure about that.” Hollylight continued. “What could be ‘home of the clouds’?” Silentstar asked. Hollylight didn’t speak. “Something that’s the home of the clouds? Sorry... I don’t know that one." Hollylight said. “Should I tell Gingerpaw about this as well?” Hollylight questioned. “When you think she’s ready.” Silentstar replied. Hollylight nodded. The two cats returned. “Alright, let’s go.” Silentstar spoke. The three cats began walking back towards the camp. Silentstar repeated the words of the prophecy in her head all the while long, until eventually they arrived back in the camp, where Hollylight and Gingerpaw headed back towards the medicine cats’ den and Silentstar stood in the clearing.
She almost didn’t notice when she scented two new scents in the camp, one coming from the apprentices’ den, and one coming from the warriors’ den. She looked inside the apprentices’ den to find a large, brown tom who appeared to be around 13 moons. Why are they so big? Silentstar questioned. They should be a warrior by now! Silentstar thought before entering the den and confronting the strange, overaged cat in the clearing. She began speaking.
“Who are you?” Silentstar asked him.
“My name is Harepaw.” The cat replied.
“And what are you doing here, “Harepaw”?” Silentstar questioned, narrowing her eyes at him.
Harepaw flinched at her hostility.
“I didn’t mean to end up here.” Harepaw replied gently.
“I was just out looking for my sister.” Harepaw said.
“Why are you in the apprentices’ den?” Silentstar spoke.
“I never finished my training in ShadowClan.” Harepaw meowed.
“I left before I could become a warrior.” Harepaw answered.
Silentstar eased up a bit.
“Did you happen to see her around here?” Harepaw asked hopefully.
“She’s a mottled gray cat called Wren.” Harepaw added on quickly.
“You don’t have to, but I would really appreciate it.” Harepaw said.
“No, I’m sorry.” Silentstar answered.
“Oh... It’s okay.” Harepaw said, although he looked disappointed.
“If you want, you could join SnakeClan.” Silentstar spoke.
“At least you would have a place to stay.” Silentstar suggested.
“Thank you.” Harepaw dipped his head.
Silentstar nodded in reply.
Harepaw headed back to the apprentices’ den.
She walked towards the warriors’ den afterwards, where she looked inside and searched for whoever this other cat was. She couldn’t find them at first, until she padded around the rock and spotted a white tom who appeared to be about 36 moons in age. Silentstar padded up to him and began speaking.
“What’s your name?” Silentstar questioned.
“I could ask the same as you.” The cat retorted.
Silentstar felt her fur starting to bristle.
“Silentstar.” Silentstar replied, narrowing her eyes.
“Well, in that case, my name is Whitewhisker.” Whitewhisker replied.
“Where do you come from?” Silentstar asked, a little more calmly.
“I used to be in ThunderClan.” Whitewhisker began.
ThunderClan? Oh no...
“But I left.” Whitewhisker continued.
“Why?” Silentstar questioned the cat.
“Skystar was sending almost constant patrols out here to attack SnakeClan.” Whitewhisker said.
“I couldn’t handle it. There were more important things to deal with, like stocking the fresh-kill pile.” Whitewhisker spoke.
“It was just plain mouse-brained.” Whitewhisker remarked.
“Anyways, I don’t have anywhere else to go right now.” Whitewhisker spoke.
“Can I join your clan?” Whitewhisker asked.
“How do I know you’re not a spy?” Silentstar said.
“I promise I’m not a spy.” Whitewhisker replied.
Silentstar remained quiet for a few moments.
I don’t know about this cat. Silentstar thought.
But they seem loyal. Silentstar remarked.
And I feel like they’re telling the truth. Silentstar thought.
“Alright. You can join.” Silentstar decided.
“Thanks.” Whitewhisker nodded, heading back towards the warriors’ den and leaving Silentstar to stand alone in the clearing, pondering about what she should do next. She glanced towards the apprentices’ den, which currently had four cats in it. All Harepaw really needs is a little bit more of training to finish up. Silentstar thought. He’ll probably be moving out of the apprentices’ den really soon. Silentstar thought. But it still seems a little crowded. Maybe I should at least extend the thickets a bit further. Silentstar pondered. The fresh-kill pile still has plenty of prey, for now, so what could be the harm? She decided she would start working on expanding the den.
Silentstar clawed the three thickets that made up the entrance of the den and gathered the remaining brambles to form two thickets. She meticulously made sure she was in the center before placing one of them down, moving up, moving down again, and placing the second one. Afterwards, she still needed more thickets to cover up the entrance, so she headed outside of the camp and began searching for more brambles in the forest.
She had just been innocently spawning brambles, minding her own business, and was almost finished collecting a full inventory of thickets when, out of the blue, two ThunderClan cats named Tearclaw and Dustflower appeared and started attacking her. I wasn’t anywhere near their territory! I even set clearly defined borders to let them know that this was SnakeClan territory. I haven’t even crossed it once this entire season, besides for a trip to the gathering and a trip to the Moonrock, but ThunderClan acts as if it doesn’t even exist! Silentstar thought, irritated. Who do they think they are? Silentstar questioned. Since Silentstar had been so sick of their reckless behavior, she decided that instead of running away like she normally did when they appeared, she would actually fight back, and the two cats were quickly wounded. Silentstar had a few scratches, but besides that she had no injuries. Hopefully ThunderClan will stop with this. Silentstar thought. We can easily deal with one or two cats. But StarClan knows what will happen if Skystar sends a raid to our camp. Silentstar remarked. She retrieved the last bramble and headed back inside the camp, where she began lining up the thickets once again.
Silentstar had finished up with placing them down a few moments later. She had expanded the apprentices’ den a little bit by extending the wall a little bit further and removing one of the thickets to leave room for an entrance. She was a little hungry by now, but she could deal with that later. She realized that she still hadn’t put down the moss and looked up at the sky. It wasn’t dark yet, but the sun was starting to fall lower than it had been before. She figured she would probably have enough time to gather some moss and place it down before going to bed, if she was quick. So she headed back outside and began clawing at the tree she usually clawed at to collect a full inventory of moss.
On her second trip, she headed back outside to collect another full inventory of moss, since she still didn’t have enough to fill up the den. But she had just collected her sixth piece of moss when once again, two ThunderClan cats had appeared out of nowhere and attacked her immediately, this time their names being Birchfur and Boulderherb. They had moved so quickly, and everything was a blur, but in the end, Silentstar had won. Although now she was just plain worried. Why would Skystar be bothered to send so many patrols? I thought ThunderClan was too busy fighting with ShadowClan. And surely they have other places where they can hunt? Silentstar thought. This is truly starting to become pure obsession. I mean, we couldn’t possibly be that bad, could we? All we ask is that they leave us alone and in peace. Silentstar thought. Nevertheless, we continue to be attacked. Hopefully this is just a simple protest. Hopefully this will all die down, and Skystar will leave us alone soon. Silentstar pondered. But deep down inside her, she knew that this was much more than that. That this was just the start. She continued gathering moss until she had gotten all she could carry. She then headed back inside the camp and placed it all down in the apprentices’ den.
By the time she had finished, it was past moonhigh, and almost pitch-black. Silentstar walked back towards the leader’s den, where she curled up in her bed of moss and rested her eyes. She could barely find it in her to go to sleep, but she supposed she had to get some sleep, although she wasn’t exactly tired. Her thoughts were filled with the dream she had at Moonrock, what was going to happen, and what she was going to do. Silentstar honestly had no idea what she was going to do when whatever was going to happen happened, but she knew what she was going to do tomorrow. Oatstar was right. Multiple cats have been assigned apprentices already. Silentstar thought. And I’m certainly not going to last forever. But that just leaves the question of who.
Leaf-fall 7
Silentstar woke up the next morning, drowsily flickering her eyes. She could feel a slightly stronger wind blowing than the day before, and the temperature had dropped. Leaf-bare is definitely coming soon. Silentstar remarked. She yawned, getting up to her paws and stretching. She shook out her fur and walked through the entrance to the leader’s den. She arrived in the clearing, wondering what she should do. I’m going to have to start sending out some more hunting patrols soon. Silentstar remarked. And I probably should give Harepaw a... wait, what is that? Silentstar thought. She smelled a new scent coming from the warriors’ den. Silentstar walked towards the entrance and looked inside to find a calico she-cat sitting down in the moss.
“What are you doing here?” Silentstar asked.
“Sorry about intruding.” The cat replied softly.
“Well... Why are you intruding, exactly?” Silentstar said, puzzled.
“I was just looking for a place to stay at night when I stumbled upon your camp.” She said.
“I was already really tired, and I didn’t wanna wake anyone up.” The cat meowed.
“Where do you come from?” Silentstar questioned.
“I don’t know.” The cat responded.
“What’s your name?” Silentstar spoke.
“Speckledew.” Speckledew answered.
“Oh, well, okay.” Silentstar said.
“I was wondering if I could join?” Speckledew began.
“I would really appreciate it.” Speckledew continued.
“And I promise to help out as much as I can.” Speckledew finished.
Silentstar looked at the cat.
“Very well. You can join.” Silentstar decided.
“Thank you so much!” Speckdew meowed.
Silentstar nodded in reply.
The cat walked away, heading back to the warriors’ den.
Silentstar stood there for a few more moments. What was I thinking about again?... Silentstar thought. Oh, right. I need to give Harepaw a mentor. He technically should be a warrior by now, but I guess he needs someone to finish up his training. Silentstar pondered. After a little while longer of thinking, she decided on Stormfeather. I suppose I should have some of the newer warriors receive apprentices. Silentstar thought. Just so that they can gain some experience. Plus, Stormfeather did warn me that Emberkit went missing. If it wasn’t for her, I might have not been able to get her to Hollylight on time. And if that hadn’t happened, then maybe she would have... Silentstar trailed off. She decided she would just call the gathering. Silentstar leaped onto the Highlog and called out the usual gathering words.
“May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highlog for a clan meeting.” Silentstar spoke. Emberkit peeked out of the nursery den once again, and sighed when Crowflight made her go back inside. The four apprentices also came out of the newly expanded apprentices’ den, as well as multiple warriors flooding out of the warriors’ den. Lastly, Hollylight and Gingerpaw exited the medicine cats’ den, heading into the clearing with the rest.
“Harepaw, you are well past the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Harepaw. Your mentor will be Stormfeather. I hope Stormfeather will pass down all she knows on to you.” Stormfeather looked extremely surprised, but prideful and excited as well.
“Stormfeather, please step forward.” Silentstar said.
Stormfeather stepped forward.
“Stormfeather, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from Crowflight, and you have shown yourself to be fast and balanced. You will be the mentor of Harepaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to him.” Silentstar finished.
The two cats touched noses and cats from the clan began cheering out his name. “Harepaw! Harepaw!” Harepaw looked noticeably embarrassed, partly from when Silentstar announced Stormfeather as his mentor, which appeared to be a mixture of embarrassment and happiness, and partly from when his name was called out. Silentstar assumed that he didn’t particularly enjoy being treated as an apprentice when he should be a warrior. The cats returned to their places in the crowd, and cats began to leave, but Silentstar began speaking again.
“Wait. That is not all I have planned for this gathering.” Silentstar announced.
The cats who had left returned to the clearing, and whispers traveled from one cat to another.
“As you all know, I have not yet appointed a deputy.” Silentstar continued.
“And this is something that should have been done a long while ago. So...” Silentstar spoke.
"I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of SnakeClan is
♪And then I left it on a cliffhanger♪

I just hope that they don’t mind who their mentors are.
