Synopsis:
Long ago, all humans lived beneath the sea. However, some people preferred the surface and abandoned living underwater permanently. As a consequence, they were stripped of their god-given protection called "Ena" which allowed them to breathe underwater. Over time, the rift between the denizens of the sea and of the surface widened, although contact between the two peoples still existed.
Sea-people:
Sea-people are people that live under the sea. Children and teenagers attend the surface high school but must return to the water by Five PM or their Ena starts to wear off, making it hard to breathe. Another option would be to soak in water to stay on the surface, but this only temporarily fixes the problem. Sea-people typically have more of a respect for the sea as it is their home. It can also be noted that Sea-people are the only people with blue eyes in this scenario, and if a surface-person has blue eyes, they're either a sea-person who has left or the combination of a sea-person and a surface-person. Sea-people live under the sea, in a village called Shioshishio.
It's also important to note that a sea-person who is in a romantic relationship with a surface-person is banished from the sea, because when a sea-person and a surface-person have a child, the child cannot survive underwater, and as such, would die. (Basically, sea-person(ena)+surface-person(no ena)=Hybrid-person (no ena)). It's unknown whether a hybrid and a sea-person could produce a child with an ena, but it's highly unlikely.
Surface-people:
Surface-people live on the surface. Most of them are fisherman but they're not allowed to fish near Shioshishio. Most Surface-people discriminate against sea-people, saying they smell like fish, while Sea-people say the surface-people smell like pigs. Surface people have brown eyes unless they have sea in them, in which case they'd have blue eyes, or perhaps a more purplish-brown color in their eyes (such as Tsumugu).
Hybrid-People:
Hybrid-people are people born to a surface-person and a sea-person. They don't have Ena but they'll always feel the sea calling to them. More often than not, their mother will have been a sea-person and their father will have been a surface-person, but in some cases the father will have been from the sea.
Shioshishio:
Shioshishio is an underwater village and probably the last sea village. The village is protected by Lord Uroko, who protects the spirit fire (a fire for light that works underwater).
Oshiohshi:
Oshiohshi is the surface.
Ena:
Ena allows a person to breathe and swim underwater. It is believed that someone with at least one sea-person as their parent can receive or get Ena but they cannot be born with it. It is unknown how one would get this Ena, but it is possible. Noted that it could be by falling into the sea and almost drowning, but this is not confirmed.
Rules:
Rule #1: Follow the forum rules, and Falcon's rules.
Rule #2: No Mary-sueing. I realize that it may be hard to fill your form with flaws or something, but try not to Mary-sue.
Rule #3: Literate rules DO apply, and you will have to write one paragraph per character. This means you can't lump all of your characters into one paragraph. Put "Land or Sea" in the "other" section if you read this.
Rule #4: If you want your character to be a hybrid-person, note whether they've received Ena or not, and if they have, note that they'll have to follow the same rules as Sea-people (have to soak in salt water).
Rule #5: If you want your character to be older than school age (~5-18) than specify whether they have job.
Rule #6: Have fun! If you're confused, feel free to pm me and I'll explain it to the best of my ability.
