atona stared at the cat like figure before her, jaw dropping. "Hello," it purred. She shook her head out of her trance. No, the cat did not come out of the book, and she definitely did not just summon a ghost. Nope, not at all.
Warning: Major and minor character death.
Katona wandered around the ruins of the neighborhood that was once busy with humans. She recalled when it all stopped, because of some petty war. She growled to herself at the thought. Everything was perfect, so perfect. She had all a cat could ever want and more.
And it was all taken from her over night.
Almost every human was gone. If they weren't killed, then they ran off from the chaos. Katona was just 1 year old when the 'world war' as they called it, started. 2 years later her owners left her home for 5 months, food long gone before then. If not for the cat next door, she would have starved to death. The all white tom was named Snowball- kudos to the owner for thinking of that. But the tom simply came to search for food. Katona begged for the light tom to help her. He laughed at the poor kitten "Survival of the fittest." He cackled. He was generous enough to leave the door open, at least.
The first thing Katona did was run as fast as she could to Lizzy's home. Lizzy was a 3 year old white and black she-cat that Katona swore was missing a few screws. Katona didn't even like her, but had no were else to turn. Katona nearly collapse the moment she got on the lawn. The tired and weak kitten made pitiful mews at the door until the cat door lift up. Strong green eyes met tired blue.
"Katona!" Lizzy gasp. "What happened to you? You as skinny as a twig!" Lizzy whirled around and beckoned Katona inside with the flick of her tail. Katona slowly rose to her feet and cautiously entered. She jumped in fright of the door suddenly shutting behind her. But what was inside the house shocked her way more.
They had lights on. Ever since the war the power in the houses went off. Food mixed with mice and birds filled gigantic bowls in the living room. Other cats were there too, turning their heads to the new-comer. Beds made out of pillows and blankets were off to one side. Christmas lights illuminated the area and chased away the darkness. The awestruck kitten stared at everything with wide eyes. She snapped out of her trance as Lizzy waved her paw in her face. "Hey, earth to Kat? You home?" Katona growled and batted at Lizzy's paw. "Get your disgusting paws out my face." Her voice was hoarse from disuse. Lizzy rolled her eyes. "Come eat. I bet you're starving..." She trailed off as she glaced at the ribs poking out of her friends body.
Katona wordlessly padded to the bowl filled with food. Her mouth watered and her stomach rumbled. She devoured 2 birds and a mouse in merely seconds. She drunk the water until she felt like bursting. Lizzy chuckled behind her. "Come on," she smiled "Let's go see Jet and his apprentice. Jet runs the place and Aron works the electricity."
Notes: Cats here live much longer than cat in the real world. Here cats live up to 40. 4 years of age are like 15 year olds to humans.
And thank you Reed for helping me. Without you I will still be on the first paragraph. XD
Lizzy lead Katona down several hallways as she struggled to keep up. Lizzy's owners were rich and had a large house, making the younger cat give up on trying to memorize what goes where. Lizzy came to a halt that made Katona run face first into her hindquarters. Katona hissed at her. Lizzy rolled her eyes "Come on grumpy gills, you're too tiny to be so mean." That only caused the younger of the two to hiss louder. So what if she's smaller than than others? She can still kick another cat's tail if-
Her internal rant was cut short as a golden head popped out of a hole in the floor. Lizzy beamed at the the cat. "Hey, Aron!" Katona was more concerned about why a random tom was sticking his head out of the floor. Aron glanced at Katona and back at Lizzy. "And this is...?"
"Katona,"
"And she's from...?"
"3 blocks west from here,"
"And-" Katona interrupted. "I'm sorry, but I don't think we have time for you to ask 200 questions at the moment." Aron glared at her. "Why are you here?" "I was stuck in my home for 5 months without food. I escaped and ran here for help because I knew Lizzy lived here." Aron looked a bit skeptical but soon nodded his head. He disappeared into the hole "Follow me," his voice echoed. Katona hesitated. The older of the two shoved her inside, ignoring her protest. "Jet needs to see you. Can't live here without our fearless leader knowing, right?"
This chapter is shorter than Kat jeez.
