Rootpaw looked at Shadetail with relief. He couldn't even be mad that Sootface had chosen a mentor that was younger than Rootpaw- at the very least Rootpaw could understand the young tom. Rootpaw tried to ignore the numbness in his paws, or the sticky feeling of blood inbetween his claws. No corpse, no evidence. Just a forgotten memory. Just a step in his path to greatness. Rootpaw dipped his head to Shadetail quietly. Humility would be his teacher.

Shadetail "We don't dip heads here," Shadetail told Rootpaw, using his muzzle to lift the older cat's head higher. "Let's see... oh, fair warning: we fight with unsheathed claws. It's supposed to make training feel like a real fight so that we give all we are. The way Nightclaw trains you doesn't show you how a battle is. You can always go to Honeysplash and give an excuse to get your wounds tended to, though. I promise I won't kill you. You're new, so I'll go gentle on you. Okay?" (peony)

I mean same with rootpaw. I love his character so much cause he's really just a proud brat but also truly believes in others and agh. Also i like rootpaw's name so much. Im glad we both can explore their characters more :,)
Id actually love it if rootpaw and shadetail formed a really close friendship.)

Rootpaw stood tall at Shadetail's correction. "I can handle it." Rootpaw agreed. It was a relief to be treated like a capable cat- although Shadetail did say he'd go easy on Rootpaw, it still felt less sheltered than Nightclaw's training sessions. Nightclaw always seemed vaguely distant and indifferent of Rootpaw, as if his apprentice were a lost cause. Shadetail looked at him like an equal, and Rootpaw relished in the feeling.

(rootpaw should come with shadetail when he leaves for dawnclan!!! i know you said you'd think he'd want to make up for his disloyalty, but it would also be like "okay i get a new start here with by best bro")

Shadetail Shadetail got into a fighting position. "I'm going to show you the first move I've ever learned," he meowed. "It's useful, even if some would call it dirty. Just stand still so I can show you. And it may hurt, but it does more than that. You'll be okay, though. If you do it right, it doesn't cause any lasting damage. Not even a wound." (peony)

Rootpaw nodded, and although he sunk into a defensive crouch he didn't make any move to attack. He simply remained still, watching Shadetail with inquisitve eyes.

Shadetail Shadetail rushed at Rootpaw and hit the top of his shoulder with a paw while smacking the side of it, both with as much force as he could muster. This would cause Rootpaw's leg to become numb and limp, making it buckle underneath him. (peony)

Predictably, Rootpaw's foreleg gave way underneath him. Rootpaw's nose scrunched at the unpleasant feeling in his leg as he stumbled to one side, but took note of how Shadetail had attacked. "That would be useful to stun an enemy." Rootpaw observed, memorizing the motions.

Shadetail Shadetail nodded in agreement, stepping back. "While your enemy is frozen from shock and collapsed on the ground from the attack, you can hurt them anywhere you want! It's funny seeing them panic. Especially that dumb little kittypet from yesterday. Thought she could get away with trespassing on our territory." He purred. "Let's save that story for another time. Let's spar now! Try defending against me. I wanna see how well you fight." (peony)

Rootpaw nodded once more. "Alright. Come at me whenever you're ready." This time, Rootpaw's muscles were tense and ready to launch himself one way or the other at Shadetail's advance.

The LeafClan camp seemed hollow after the events of the day. With her apprentice trained for the day and the patrols already finished, Dirtpool raised her head to glance around camp. She felt useless not working, but Dirtpool begrudgingly admitted that she should socialize her Clanmates more during her down time. Dirtpool's gaze fell on Smokefoot befoee she padded up to the warrior, dipping her head in greeting. "Smokefoot- are you well?" She politely greeted the tom, slightly shy. Dirtpool had kept to herself for a majority of her time in LeafClan, but the tom seemed nice enough.

Smokefoot glanced at the medicine den where Alderpaw had run off to. "I'm fine. How about you?" He felt his face getting hot. How did Dirtpool of all cats choose to talk to me??? He thought. He'd had a crush on the she-cat since he was a kit and she was an apprentice.

Shadetail Shadetail darted to the left, but at the last moment turned towards the right side of Rootpaw and tried striking his flank with unsheathed claws. (peony)

(his intent was to get root focused on defending his left side so that he could attack his right one more easily btw)

Honeysplash "Of course you can, Alderpaw. As long as you don't get in the way." She smiled warrmly, sensing the apprentice's worry, and turned to face both of them. 'Sparkfire, you will be fine, and the kits will be fine. I will do all I can to make sure that you and the kits are alright."

Rootpaw hissed as Shadetail's claws grazed his sides. Thankfully Shadetail wasn't fighting to injure him, but Rootpaw didn't want to leave his side open for Shadetail to continue attacking. Rootpaw batted Shadetail's muzzle to try and stun him, before he sprinted forward and lunged to grab Shadetail's tail in his jaws to try and unbalance his opponet.

Dirtpool heaved a sigh as she followed Smokefoot's gaze to the medicine cat den. "I hope those poor cats are okay. I can't imagine being in their paws." For once, Dirtpool didn't have a harsh word for the apprentices. If anything, Dirtpool could empathize with the judgement and scorn that Alderpaw and Sparkfire faced. She could envy Sparkfire's pregnancy, though. Dirtpool felt as if she'd never find a mate within LeafClan at this rate. She looked up at Smokefoot curiously. "What do you think about them?"
