Rootpaw grit his teeth with frustration as Shadetail evaded his attempt to unbalance him. I'll have to be more clever than that. As Shadetail attempted to clamber up on Rootpaw's back, Rootpaw reared up on his hind legs, snarling. Although Rootpaw was not a very large cat, he was burly and heavy, and so Rootpaw allowed himself to fall onto his back- hopefully squishing Shadetail. Once Rootpaw was on his back, he attempted to rotate so that Shadetail and him would be facing each other on the ground.

Dirtpool heaved a sigh as she followed Smokefoot's gaze to the medicine cat den. "I hope those poor cats are okay. I can't imagine being in their paws." For once, Dirtpool didn't have a harsh word for the apprentices. If anything, Dirtpool could empathize with the judgement and scorn that Alderpaw and Sparkfire faced. She could envy Sparkfire's pregnancy, though. Dirtpool felt as if she'd never find a mate within LeafClan at this rate. She looked up at Smokefoot curiously. "What do you think about them?"

"Apprentices shouldn't have mates. And they certainly shouldn't get their name early because of it." He said. But deep down, his anger at them came from jealousy. He was jealous he had to do his full apprenticeship and still didn't have a mate. 



peony what if we do a no-love situation when Dirtpool is expecting and Smokefoot doesn't really love her until the kits are born then they'll bond over their kits. Like a Spiderleg x Daisy situation but where the father actually lpoves them in the end lol)

Dirtpool nodded. "It's... unheard of. But I still feel bad for them." The she-cat heaved a sigh. She looked up at Smokefoot to change the subject. "Would you ever want an apprentice sometime soon?" Dirtpool was actually enjoying mentor life. It felt good, to have a cat to care for. She was fiercely protective of Sunpaw, even though his mother was present and active in the apprentice's life.

Shadetail Shadetail was surprised that Rootpaw could get him, a heavier cat, off of his back like it was nothing. This cat must be stronger than I thought, he realized as he lifted up his hind feet and tried scratching the other tom's soft belly. (peony)

Once more, Rootpaw winced as Shadetail's hind claws dug into his belly. Rootpaw arched his back to defend himself, hissing as he lunged for Shadetail. Rootpaw used his front forelegs to lash out at the younger cat, while keeping his hind leg weight low to the ground to effectively pin Shadetail beneath him.

Shadetail Shadetail snarled loudly, his fur bristled to twice its size at this point (and since he's a big poofball already, he's basically just a living stormcloud now). He tried latching onto his enemy's neck using his front legs and then using his grip to pull him up, leaving him to bite the older cat's face repeatedly. (peony)

Rootpaw hissed as Shadetail's claw snagged his brow, and blood trickled into his eyes and blurred his vision. With stinging eyes, Rootpaw ducked his head and did his best to slip out of Shadetail's grip. Back on his feet, Rootpaw would have a better chance of attacking Shadetail with some distance between the two of them.

Shadetail Shadetail allowed Rootpaw out of his grip, and even violently shoved him away as he tried to stand. His mind had forgotten that he wasn't fighting an enemy, and his green gaze was full of malice. He got onto his big gray paws, shaking his fur out. He exposed his hooked claws again, locking eye contact with Rootpaw. He stood in a battle crouch, waiting for his apprentice to make the first move. (peony)

"No. I'd rather focus on my clanmates without being hindered by a kit." HE licked his fluffy paw and drew it over his ear. "Do you ever want kits?" He asked.

"It... It would be nice." Dirtpool answered after a moment of thought. "I'd finally have kin in LeafClan. I'd belong." Her eyes were almost wistful as she thought. Dirtpool glanced at Smokefoot curiously, tilting her head curiously. "What about you?" She personally hadn't caught on to Smokefoot's hinted advances. Dirtpool never would have guessed any cat would feel anything for her, admittedly.

Rootpaw's eyes were trained on Shadetail's paws, and with a paw he lashed out for them. Before his paw could hit Shadetail, however Rootpaw darted to Shadetail's flank to headbutt the tom's side. He hoped the feigned move would decieve Shadetail into protecting his paws, only to knock the tom off his feet.

Shadetail Shadetail saw that Rootpaw was focusing on his feet, but he was aware that it might be the same trick he'd managed to pull off earlier. So he jumped back altogether when he saw Rootpaw attacking, which protected everything at once without him having to choose. (peony)

(Sorry if Shade seems OP, especially since Root is older, but he's been fighting dirty since he was a moon old.)

Rootpaw tried to keep himself calm as frustration rose in his throat. With claws sheathed, Rootpaw attempted to land a blow on Shadetail's head to stun his opponet momentarily. As long as he could stay calm, Rootpaw would be able to regain control of the fight.

Shadetail Shadetail at first thought Rootpaw had given up the fight from his annoyed expression and his sheathed claws, which made him somewhat lower his guard - a foolish move. As soon as he began to straighten up from his stance, he felt a blow to his head knock him completely off his paws. Winded and dazed, he found it difficult to stand. Not only that, but his attacks would be clumsy unless Rootpaw allowed for him to regain his balance and focus. (peony)

Rootpaw didn't waste any time. He lept for Shadetail's back, tucking his tail between his legs. Rootpaw had to focus on balance without his tail, but hoped to eliminate as many extremities as possible for Shadetail to grip.

Shadetail Shadetail staggered underneath the surprising new weight on his back. His paws shook with the effort of trying to shake the enemy off, all the while trying to stay balanced. (peony)
