Rant ahead, just a fair warning! So, as most teenagers are, I'm addicted to my phone. I'll admit to that. I probably spend more time on it than I should. It helps me keep up with my friends, and keeps me entertained. It helps me keep my anxiety under control, since it's always available to me. It goes with me everywhere.
Now, being away from my phone causes me more anxiety. What really sets it off, is my mom going through it. Now, I don't have much to hide. But, there is a lot of stuff I keep hidden away from her, for good reason. She constantly believes she has my best interests at her. So when she decides to go through it, I panic.
But what she did today, is completely and utterly uncalled for. She took it away from me, in a public place. She then later had me unlock it, even though I didn't want her to go through it. When I unlocked, she went inside. She went through it. Normally, if she asks I will let her. Again, I don't have much to hide. But this really made me mad. She does have the right to go through it, as she owns my phone and pays it bills. The thing is; that went across the line for me.
*end rant*
I realized about halfway through this I sound like a spoiled brat.
..anyways. Do your parents/guardians take your phone as a punishment? Do they go through your phone with your permission? Do they go through without your permission?

Yeah it’s okay if they take it away cuz I get that I can get attached. But I just can’t stand it when they look through my phone. Sometimes I’m super scared if they even look at me playing with my device. Last time they took it away randomly, I ended up breaking up with my bf because I’m not allowed to have any.

I didn't have a phone at your age, at least not one that I could get on the internet with and stuff like that. I was lucky to get a phone to text and call with. The pictures it took were trash, but at least I was able to communicate with it. Because I couldn't do much with it, I wasn't on it a whole lot. Besides that, I didn't really have many friends with a phone.
On the other hand, I did get a laptop for Christmas in 2011, and I also got an iPod touch a year later. I crossed the line on both of them. I would stay up all night on school nights and sneak being on my laptop. I got caught one night, and for a while after that I was only allowed to use it for homework. I got my iPod taken away for a while too because I wasn't doing what my parents asked until after they had asked me multiple times. I was on that a lot too, so they took it away until I could be trusted again.
I got these things taken away, but my parents never went through the history on my computer, nor did they read my texts. I guess I was just trusted with things like that.

I have a laptop and a phone. My phone is my responsibilty, but my mom owns it and pays for it. She is allowed to go through my phone, but we came to an agreement that as long as I didn't send anything offensive/hurtful or buy anything using her money on it, she wouldn't get mad. I'm not too attached to my phone, so it doesn't really matter to me if she goes through it.
