2011 was probably one of the darkest years of my life. I don't remember a whole lot of good from that year because of all the bad. I remember nearly ending up in the hospital with the flu in February, and I remember the events that eventually led to my grandfather passing away four days before Christmas. Almost everything in the middle is just a big blur. However, in the midst of all that, there was one ray of light even if I didn't know it at the time.
On October 28th, 2011, I was playing either version 12 or 13 of Warrior Cats Untold Tales when all of a sudden I accidentally clicked on the Official Forums button on the startup menu. Little did I know the impact that came from me clicking that button. The button brought me to the forum, and that is where my time here began. And here we are now, 9 years later on October 28th, 2020.
Wow. I can't believe it has been 9 years. I was only 14 and in 8th grade back then. Now I'm 23 and a senior in college, planning to graduate in May! So much has happened/changed in my life over the years, but one thing that has remained constant is this forum. Even though people have come and gone from here, the forum has still always been here for me to come back to. It has been a place that I could come to and trust that it was a safe environment for me to spend time on and just escape real life for a while.
All that is largely due to the amazing community that we have here. I met a lot of my best friends through this forum, many of who I still am friends with to this day. Some people will try to tell me that online friendships don't last, but I say that that's a lie. If the friendships I've made through here don't show that, then I don't know what will. If you meet the right people, it won't matter if you meet them in person or online.
Nearly 7 and a half years ago, in May 2013, I applied to be a moderator. In my application, I made a promise to not leave the forum. Of course, that is not even close to the reason why I've stayed as long as I have. I think that was one of the reasons that led me to get chosen for the role. Regardless of the reason why I was chosen, I wouldn't have it any other way. Being a moderator here has been a privilege, and not to mention probably the easiest job ever, because of the lovely community.
If I haven't said it enough, this forum means a lot to me. I've really enjoyed interacting with anyone I've ever interacted with on here, whether if that was through roleplay, posting in the game/chat threads, private messaging, or any other means. I definitely don't pretend to be the owner of the forum but I will always treat it as if it was mine. It just feels right because I've been active so long, posting every single day.
I just want to close this out by saying thanks. Thanks to everyone who has made this forum what it is. Without all of you, the forum wouldn't be the same.
And Falcon Development, this last bit is mostly just for you. Without you, the forum wouldn't even exist for one thing. But apart from that, it still wouldn't be what it is if you didn't set it up the way you did. It is really hard to find anywhere online that is as friendly as this. The family-friendly aspect of it is what makes it special. Thanks for making it in such a way that it can be the special, safe corner of the Internet that I can/have always come back to every day. I hope you know what an impact that has made on my life. I definitely wouldn't be who I am without it. Thanks for all that.
