Holly purred at Stub's comment about Wanderer's bird-catching skills. When he reassured her he wasn't scared, Holly breathed a mental sigh of relief. She was glad he wasn't scared of her, or angry at her, she'd grown to love the little grey and white kit. After he told his story of his birth mother, Holly blinked unhappily. "That's unfair!" She protested. "Twolegs shouldn't do that- If they don't want cats, they shouldn't take any, much less shelter a mother! I don't know how kittypets live with them- no offense to you, of course." Then Hidden came over, asking Stub about mountains. Holly wanted to move closer to Stub, she didn't trust Hidden. However, she stayed where she was, her ears flattened against her head and her tail tip twitched. Her paws itched to interrupt.
Red jerked back slightly, startled. Sparrow wanted her to try to catch it? Red nodded nervously and got back into position. Her crouch was still a little off, but it seemed to be good enough for the occasion. Red slowly circled around to find the perfect angle to strike. She could see the starling now, resting on a branch. She gathered her strength in her hind legs, sprang, and came just short of hitting the bird.
Stub only shrugged. "Twolegs are weird," he replied. "Mine were nice, but it just wasn't for me."
From the side, Wanderer pitched in, "kittypet mothers are often well aware their kits will be taken, but trust their twolegs to send them to safe places. It is no different than a wild mother's kits growing up and leaving the den."
Stub glanced to her and nodded before turning back to the two she-cats. "Oh, Wanderer told us about them! They're huge rocks so tall they touch the sky. And there are birds there so big they could carry off a cat!" He meowed, tail flicking excitedly. "But I haven't seen any for myself. I've never left this place before; my old twolegplace isn't that far from here."

The starling flew out of the bush with an alarmed chirp.
Sparrow leaped up and hooked her claws in the bird's wing, then she slammed it to the ground and bit its neck. "That was great! But you have to put bit more spring into your pounce and judge the distance. You'll get it next time," she praised warmly and nudged the bird toward the kit, though she hadn't eaten since this morning when she was still at her den.
"I could show you the mountains if you'd like. I've been there many times before myself. Born in them in fact!" she meowed to the kit. "I know a place in the mountains where you can see a waterfall. I could even show you how to catch the big birds, which are called eagles and hawks."

Acorn shook his head. "Stub, If you go to the mountains there a plenty of horrid creatures there. You know how Wanderer has always kept you full fed? The mountains barely have any prey. But, if you think you're strong enough, you..." He choked back the tears. "You can go with her." He thought of what Hidden would do with Stub, she looked like a pretty mean cat.
"Stub, I also wish to make an offer with you, that is of course, if Wanderer is alright with it." He said, standing straight next to Hidden, yet his eyes were only filled with dread. "I could take you to leave in a so called clan, Where there are plenty of cats more than just us too. You will be learned to hunt and fight next to cats who you develop as your friend, and..." He cut off, staring at the ground, at a loss for words. He'd much rather explore the mountains. That's it, I'm done for. Straightening again, he looked at Stub. "My Grandmother was a clan cat- She told all the stories of the the clans, and how the cats in the mountain tribes worked. I could tell you...so many stories..."
"I was in a clan once. They break into fights over one scrawny mouse and too many cats are killed." Hidden meowed briskly. The mountains are a good home if you know how to hunt right."
Thought she was a little disappointed that she missed, Red still glad for Sparrow's praise and advice. Maybe next time she would be able to catch a bird all on her own! "Thanks," she replied shyly, crouching close to the starling. She carefully began to pluck the feathers from the body and placing them off to the side. Once she had cleared a small area, she took her first bite. It was great, but she still liked voles better. After her second, she nudged the starling toward Sparrow. "Let's share," she suggested.
The mountains sounded interesting, but they sounded so harsh that no cat would want to live there for long. Stub imagined that the ones that did wouldn't be to keen on making friends since there wasn't much prey. Maybe one day it would be nice to visit for a day, but Stub didn't think he'd ever want to stay there for long. Now that he thought about it, Hidden didn't seem like a cat that liked to be around others for very long, and Stub did want to make lots of friends... At the mention of a Clan, Stub's ears pricked. "I've heard of those! What's it like, living in one?" He asked Acorn.
Hearing the word "Clan" drew Wanderer's attention. "What's it like, indeed. I have heard of many Clans, but each is unique. What was yours like?"

Sparrow smiled and ate some of the starling while listening. "I was Clan born," she mewed as she swallowed the piece of prey she had bit off. "Though I left because they found out my mother was the Medicine cat."
Holly pricked her ears in interest upon hearing Acorn's comment, and padded closer, sitting beside Stub. "What's it like, actually living in a clan? I've heard of clans, and watched them from a distance, but I've never been in one. I think they called themselves Streamclan. They caught fish, and even swam!" She grinned, caught in memories for a few seconds, but soon shook her head, ready to listen to what Acorn had to say. Upon Hidden's comment, she flicked her tail in a goodbye.
Sparrow turned to Holly. "Actually all three catch fish," she meowed calmly and pulled a feather off her chest. "Which of the three do you want to go to Acorn? I can give you some advise as to which ones are nicer," she said as she spat out the feather and looked at the tom.

"Well, I've been watching this clan. They are known as EchoClan, (reference ) And they seem to always be full, even in the cold season. I think it would be a good idea to join it. They hunt, and train to fight. They learn so much there!" He looked at Stub, full of pride of the tom as if he was his own father.

Holly's tail drooped. Would Stub really go with Acorn? She'd grown to love the little kit, but Acorn seemed to have so much to offer. She blurted out, surprising herself, "If it was so great, why did you leave?" After she realized how rude she'd sounded, she slapped her tail over her mouth, flattening her ears against her head. "I'm so, SO sorry!" She apologized.
Hidden drew Stub away gentaly with her tail and whispered to him, "How about I take you to the Tribe with me? You'd make lots of good friends, and you'd be safe while still being able to have adventures."
