The small rustling noise caught her attention as she looked in the direction of the source of the noise. Through the many leaves she could see little except from the corner of her eye-sight, where something was moving. She was aware that every noise could be a predator looking to kill, food to quench one's hunger, or what could also be an object dropped from the clouds that could be one's misery. Looking around the trees foliage she spotted an un-ripe, non-edible fruit that had an odd green hue to it. It was a peach, not all that grown. She plucked it mercilessly and lunged it in the direction she heard the sound.

Jonas attempted to dodge the tough fruit, but didn't manage, and got hit on the side of his neck. He let out a yelp, then emerged with a growl. "For God's sake, can't a guy get a second of peace outside of the Vertex? Having a soaked head right when I wake up was bad enough, now I almost get peached in the throat?" He yelled. He didn't care if his or the other person's cover was blown, didn't care if there was something chasing. He was pretty ticked off about his first few waking moments. At least I have my... He though, but punched the tree when he realized he had left his brass knuckles by the river basin. He recoiled with a start as his knuckles made an impact with the tree, and he shook his throbbing hand as if he were flicking water away.
(Oh God, why do I ship it?)

She wrinkled her nose and rolled her eyes as she peered at her left silver knife if silence. She remained silent naturally and watched him for a moment, tilting her head as she slowly drew closer on her branch and stretched her head further in an attempt to better examine his behavior, when the stick proved to be not as strong as she expected and suddenly gave underneath her.

(YOOOU DID THAT ON PURPOSE!!)
Jonas heard a crack almost above him, and a girl. She had thrown the peach! No time to rage about that anymore, though, and really and truly, he understood. Too much cover, so less visibility, and the natural instinct to attack the unknown in a dangerous situation like this. He dodged the branch with a sidestep that was more of a short leap. The branch had fallen, and naturally, the girl with it, but he had no idea that the girl would land in his arms, which he had, for no real reason, outstretched. He caught the girl, but was too shocked with the speed of the events that he was paralyzed for a little bit.
Her eyes had shut tightly as she felt the large stick give out beneath her, expecting soon to feel the hard and painful thud of the ground, and possibly even the sound of a bone snapping. The pain never arrived however, and soon she found herself touching something not only fairly secure, but actually releasing a heat source. She opened her silver pooled eyes to stare upwards at the slightly hazy figure who had caught her. She could spot no features through the haze in her mind that was slowly disappearing that she noted, squinting her eyes.

(It was going to happen eventually XD)
Jonas felt a strange sense of urgency. He had to protect this girl. He could see that her eyes were getting duller. Oh great, she's going to pass out. He thought to himself, and began to carry her towards his spot near the river basin. "Well, I guess having no weapon was good for once." He said to himself.
She could hear everything around her like usual, slowly clearing up and then becoming distorted and distant. However, the small teen was determined to remain conscious and protect herself through the danger. As she was carried off by the stranger she spent the time lingering over a moment of sleeping bliss and staying awake to the reality of horror that is Vertex. By the time they had reached the river she had at least the relief of hearing the river running despite her still clouded mine. Weakly her thin hand reached into her bag for her third knife, scavenging thoroughly. But it was nowhere. Her mind was too clouded for the sense of alarm to pick up, so she turned to the help of her slightly now dulled second knife. Gripping the slightly dirty handle in her hand, she hid it slightly under her back, watching the stranger.

Jonas felt a profile of alarm run through him as he set the girl down gently and started looking around around for dry wood and some flint. He had no steel, but flint would already make the job of getting a fire going easier. He eventually dragged a thick branch back, and went off to gather a bit more. There was a patch of lichen that would probably do fine as kindling nearby, which he grabbed and tossed onto his pile before grabbing a rock that was only lightly sprinkled with river water on one side. Jonas began working to make sparks with the flint and the rock, and eventually, there were a few, an one of them struck the lichen and set fire to it after a few seconds of pulsing and a gentle huff of the wind. It was still morning, and actually near mid day, but a fire was probably what he and the girl needed.
She swiftly and yet weakly slashed the knife outwards toward his left arm, attempting to snag the dull metal with his flesh as her silver eyes, now full with life, seemingly called the rest of her body to spring up. She moved up and was staggering and wobbling on her two feet, giving him an observant stare.

Jonas jumped back as a flash of silver almost hit his arm. "Oh, what was that for? I try to build a fire for someone, and my arm just about gets sliced. Did it not occur to you that I'm trying to help you?" He told the girl, attempting and miserably failing to keep exasperation out of his tone.

Altair came up behind the two people, a knife sliding out from by her thigh without a whine. She narrowed her eyes. With a simple flick of her wrist, the knife went flying, just barely missing the boy's ear. No need to kill. hopefully no need at all.
Without giving the male a reply, she turned swiftly with her last knife in her hand, jumping up and holding the knife at her in a helpful pose, so she could quickly move to lunge and injure the female. Eva's short and child-like body was tense, her silver eyes observant and cold.

Jonas leapt up as the knife whizzed past his ear and embedded itself in the ground about a foot away from him. He watched the two carefully as he put on his brass knuckles, just in case. So this is what was chasing her. Um, oops, I guess? He thought to himself with hidden embarrassment. He knew who he would defend if he needed to defend anyone, and that was the smaller girl that he had saved earlier. It was that strange feeling of protectiveness, as well as the fact that the girl that had followed tried to slice his ear off. "Why fight, though, if we're all from the Vertex? It would probably be better if we banded together, or at least made treaties or something." He let the thought slip from his mind and out of his mouth, and he facepalmed. Man, am I ever stupid! I can probably blame it on that blasted memory wipe... He though with a quiet groan. He again focused on the two girls, which he had surely either confused or totally disrupted. He would see, though.
(Poor Jonas. Of he continues like this, he's a goner XD)
She paused and slightly lowered her knife by two inches to look at Jonas in silence. She rose her eyebrows and gave a final skeptic stare to the fellow girl before she returned half her attention to Jonas, flicking her finger-tip at him with what seemed an impatient expression in her eyes.

Jonas knew he couldn't get out of this, so he spoke after a sigh. "Just a thought I let slip. Now that I've screwed myself over, I might as well speak my opinion. Really, though, if we're all from the Vertex, we should at least try to figure this out before we blindly slaughter each other. Not that we shouldn't keep our guards up, but still." He said. His fists were clenched, and he wasn't sure at all how this situation would play out.
