There's stuff that happens later that makes him unbearable + I don't like the way he's portrayed esp later. I think he's a mary-sue
My favourite drow gets introduced in book 2 "Exile"

Yeah he already gives mary-sue vibes, seeing as there hasn't been a particular reason given why he is so good at fighting and magic.
What is their name? Unless the name is a spoiler lol

It's not a big spoiler considering how he's pretty prolific and one of the more popular characters I've seen among people who've read the book, probably comparable to Drizzt. People who hate the series (and I certainly do sometimes) like him a lot, even. I won't tell you tho because I want you to find out organically anyways

It is generally difficult for me to form mental images, but not impossible. Either way, my mental images are usually quite... lacking in detail? Like they're just outlines basically, and not a lot of movement. I imagine most people have more detailed and vivid imagery when they read.
In regards to this book I was half-joking though lol. Because there is no light in the Underdark and the drow elves see with infrared vision I think? I just imagined it's very dark and my eyes would not perceive anything if I were actually there in person.

Their Innate Drow Abilities lets them see in the dark 😌
I don't think drow have infrared vision anymore in 5e. This first came out in the late 80s. But it's still ongoing and the recent novels have been published in 5e's time

Funnily enough, a cat in 5e can't see in the dark

Hm... cats irl can't see in pitch black, but can't they see if there is a little bit of light?

Yeah, but they don't have darkvision, which I think they should tbh
Also for the Drizzt books, there's a reading order because there are so many books and not all of them are labelled with numbers. I can link it to you or I can just tell you as you go along lol

Knowing the reading order would be great actually I'm almost done with book 1, I'm a little over 200 pages in
