Guess who's back with her third addition to the Ripple Reviews series?
That's right, me 🤓

For today's review, I will be talking about another one of my favorite games that I've played: an indie fantasy farming simulator still in early access on Steam known as Sun Haven.
Sun Haven is, in many aspects, similar to Stardew Valley, but with a much more fantasy aesthetic. However it's still in early
access so it's not yet complete, and naturally not as much content as SDV has.
Story: 7/10, tentatively
The story of the game is one of the unfinished aspects. There is a main quest line that you can play the beginning and end of, but the devs still have to add the remainder.
From the story that is there, the plot is pretty generic for a fantasy setting. However there are dragons so I forgive them. The plot focuses mostly on the dragons, actually, which I thought was cool and fun. And generic as it is, I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the story.
Where this game shines is the NPCs. There are a lot of great characters, and my personal favorites are Kitty (no surprise there... I mean she's an energetic cat girl), Lynn, Catherine, Jun, and Vaan. But all of them are interesting and fun.
Liam annoys me though because if you accidentally cast fireball and destroy his wheat fields then he calls the police on you. Such a snitch.
In any case, I believe they might add more dateable characters at some point so we'll get more character backstories for other NPCs, and my rating might change based on that and what ends up becoming of the story in the future.
Gameplay: 9/10
If you don't like farming sims then this isn't for you. But if you do like farming sims I think it is a must-play. Unlike traditional farming sims, you have MAGIC. Which means you can learn spells that allow you to, say, cast a rain cloud that waters part of your garden for you. Or like mentioned previously, cast a fireball at your enemies instead of relying on a sword.
Also I don't know if they're going to fix or change this, but right now you can date as many characters as you want lol. So you can do every character event and get full hearts with everyone! I had a lot of fun making everyone love me.
Another fun aspect of this game is there are three main settlements you can travel between - the human town, the demon town, and the elf town. Each settlement looks very different and has different shops to buy new items. You get a place to farm in all of them, and different crops grow in each location.
It's got all the farming sim staples, including mining and fishing. I'm not sure how I feel about the fishing mini-game, but I think I like it. And mining is fun, especially once you get the spell that lets you blow up rocks.
Overall the gameplay will satisfy your cravings for farming sim content, and perhaps introduce some mechanics you haven't seen before.
Visuals: 7/10
Truly I am a sucker for pixel art. It is cute and quaint and expressive and nostalgic. I love those little pixely guys.
Not all the sprites look better than sdv, but I do think the people sprites look much better. They look like pixel chibis, and are adorable.
I take off points for visuals because of the character portraits, some of which looked odd to me.
But seriously props to whoever designed the locations in this game because they're all gorgeous.
Sound: 8/10
The sound is good!! For me, memorable even. The track that plays in the demon city is always in my brain, lol.
I've heard better soundtracks (SDV for example) and personally I think it would be good to have some more variation in the soundtracks existing in the game right now.
Not much else to say about this, just that I like it and wish there was more.
So that wraps up pretty much everything I want to say about this! I've put about 50some hours into and enjoyed every moment so far. I'm looking forward to the eventual full release.
