Hello! 6/28/16: Forum is officially open! We welcome anyone interested in this project to join, as that will be the main place for any future updates, and place to go if you're looking to become a staff member for the project! Here it is! I'm Dune, and I'm in the concept stages of making a Warriors fan game, a 'basic' survival and RP based game that is going to be made in BYOND that will be multiplayer and open source. HOWEVER, there will also be a single player option/mode, and you can host a game on your own if you want for just you and your friends, under your own rules - or a modded version of the game even! Please note, the game is not even close to what I'd consider an Alpha stage for release/testing - I'm a one-man team currently, so it will be awhile!! For the moment, what I really need is to hear what YOU would want in a game like this!! This means: - What do you expect to be able to do with other players? - How much character creation do you want? Tons [ let's say.. Over a hundred options for just markings alone! ] of markings and options, or a smaller collection? - Would you like to see an option to have your cat be COMPLETELY randomly generated for the game? Age, sex, and their physical appearance? - Would you like to see a system based on real life cat genetics for how NPC cats and their [ plus your! ] kits end up looking? - Should there be an option to play non-cat animals that are in the world? "Twolegs"/Humans included? If so, this will be limited and rule heavy! Not likely! But if you want this option, still let me know! - How many character/"save" slots, ideally, would you like available? - Which map [ The Forest Territories, The Lake Territories, SkyClan Territory, anything not listed you are interested in? ] would you like from the Warriors series to be in the game? Would you like several available, or a large world where they're all connected and accessible through travel? - What level of difficulty do you want? - Should diseases and illnesses be lethal if untreated in the case of an illness/disease that is known to kill cats in the books? Should REAL diseases and illnesses be added into the game [ if so, medicine cats will be trained to treat these! ] ? - Would you enjoy the ability to fight for and claim pieces of land, with your clan / led by your clan leader? And/Or as a rouge/loner [ if so, only small sections - and for both these and clan claims, they could be lost to others if you are fought for it and lose! ]? This would only be a feature if/when all clans are populated and active in multiplayer! - How quickly should a moon pass? - Ability to re-spawn as a soon to be born kit from a player or NPC? Both? You'd have to wait to be born to play on that select "save" though! - Should kits have a very small chance for deformation [ from an extra toe to missing body parts? The more lethal the more rare? ] based on genetics/blood-relation [ if any ] between the mates, mother's health during pregnancy, and other small factors? - What do you absolutely NOT want to see?
Current elements! Feel free to give opinions, if you don't like them or feel they can be improve - say so! These aren't implemented yet, after-all, and therefore subject to change! - Thirst, hunger, age, serious injury, extreme temperature, and lack of oxygen/ability to breathe can cause your cat to die! - Prey based on location! - Seasons and weather! - Non-canon to the books, this is not taking place in any of the books, consider it.. another universe? - Disabilities [ missing limb, blindness, etc. ] and scars can be gained from fights, and possibly accidents! - Kits! NPC and player controlled, the clans and world need to stay populated! - Cat colours, coats, and markings will be all realistic! If it cannot appear on a cat in real life, it cannot appear on a cat in this game! For an idea of what is considered realistic, feel free to refer to this!
Finally, and importantly - This developing game needs a name!! suggestions are welcome long as one is needed, and hopefully one will be made soon for this project!
Well, that's it for what I'm asking you guys for suggestions currently! Now, there is currently no art up because it is in progress - but when released, the thread will be updated with it. Right now, I'm finishing basic cat sprites and will love to hear your guys' thoughts on them. Items, and non-cat animals are also in work. This process is long and definitely not easy, but it will be so worth it - I hope you all are willing to go through this with me until the first version of the completed game is released!! When I'm feeling an Alpha has been made, I will gladly release that for everyone and anyone to test and experience so I can get some feedback.

As a note, were someone to set up another server beside the main one [ run by me ], all features are optional. So say something you didn't enjoy makes it to the finale cut -- someone may startup a server/game of this without that feature. Looking to finish up some sprites within this week!! I hope you all can get me some feedback on those when I post them!

Some opinions:
- What do you expect to be able to do with other players? I'd say anything. - How much character creation do you want? Tons [ let's say.. Over a hundred options for just markings alone! ] of markings and options, or a smaller collection? More in between to help decide what your character to look like. - Would you like to see an option to have your cat be COMPLETELY randomly generated for the game? Age, sex, and their physical appearance? Yes. It'll let all the worries go to rest for those who can't decide. - Would you like to see a system based on real life cat genetics for how NPC cats and their [ plus your! ] kits end up looking? Yes. - Should there be an option to play non-cat animals that are in the world? "Twolegs"/Humans included? If so, this will be limited and rule heavy! Maybe, but I sort of disagree - How many character/"save" slots, ideally, would you like available? 3 or 4 depends how big the game is. - Which map [ The Forest Territories, The Lake Territories, SkyClan Territory, anything not listed you are interested in? ] would you like from the Warriors series to be in the game? Would you like several available, or a large world where they're all connected and accessible through travel? Travel could be interesting... Unless you can have 3 servers/maps at once for all 3, I'd say go for that if it's not too hard. If something simple lake territory. - What level of difficulty do you want? Not too difficult just difficult for a book related game. - Should diseases and illnesses be lethal if untreated in the case of an illness/disease that is known to kill cats in the books? Should REAL diseases and illnesses be added into the game [ if so, medicine cats will be trained to treat these! ] ? Yes for both. It'll keep the game more realistic. - Would you enjoy the ability to fight for and claim pieces of land, with your clan / led by your clan leader? And/Or as a rouge/loner [ if so, only small sections - and for both these and clan claims, they could be lost to others if you are fought for it and lose! ]? This would only be a feature if/when all clans are populated and active in multiplayer! I wonder if I miss read this... Yes it'll be fun to fight with other players in battles for land. - How quickly should a moon pass? Not too quick and not too slow I think every 1-2 hours. - Ability to re-spawn as a soon to be born kit from a player or NPC? Both? You'd have to wait to be born to play on that select "save" though! Yes. Have it random for npc and player. - Should kits have a very small chance for deformation [ from an extra toe to missing body parts? The more lethal the more rare? ] based on genetics/blood-relation [ if any ] between the mates, mother's health during pregnancy, and other small factors? Depends. - What do you absolutely NOT want to see? Nothing much. It all sounds like good ideas. Maybe start smaller before getting into doing all the big stuff in the game. I would love to play this game when it's out and I hope you get somewhere in this.
Also one question... Do you have a forum/website for this? I would love to share some more opinions and ideas to you.

On non-cat creatures/animals - I've really been juggling the non-cat option for players, and will probably remove the ability as I feel, at this point in time, the game's focus is cats and therefore should remain such. However, players would still be able to interact with NPCs that are not cats. But I'd like to here what prospective players would like, first, before I take out such an idea. Regardless of the outcome, I can still promise all the animals you find within the books will appear in-game, even if it's something not very interactive, like a cow or horse. On maps - I could probably handle around 20~ on the server, without causing lag to players who are on computers that are able to run BYOND itself, and similar games, with ease. If I release the game in development [ Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Pre-Beta, onward until completion ] for single player testing, I'd just add maps by popularity - least popular coming last. But I'd love to encourage players to go on traveling expeditions, exploring, anything you might expect from the environments available in the Warriors series - But going to far off land will not be easy! On land battles - You heard right, I'm assuming. You [ as a loner, rouge, similar ] , or you and your clan, can fight other cats to win more land/territory. Though, I'm sure the latter [ clans fighting each other over land ] might upset Starclan for one, and cause well.. A war between clans, more or less. It should be noted, Starclan and the Dark Forest will be implemented in some form, but heavily regulated so not just any ol' cat can pass out prophecies or evil actions. If you want anything else cleared up, ask away!
I'm so glad to hear about your interest in the project though! I have not made a forum, but would like to if i can make a name, and then some graphics to go with it. I might set up on shortly, but unfinished, just for discussion and progress releases [ art, coding progress, etc. ]. feel free to message me with any good idea for a forum, or project/game name even.

A new option I wanted to present as an available element in-game, is character portraits. When you inspect a cat, you'll get a description of what they look like, any injuries, so on normally. I'm wondering if people would enjoy seeing an image for the cat they're inspecting to accompany this? It'll reflect how they look currently and are customized, but only be an image of their forward-facing head - I'm thinking it should be an optional feature as it could be bloody / gross at a time of injury, and I know well that there's definitely younger players on BYOND, and younger fans of Warriors. And those who'd rather not see any like that except on the player sprites themselves.

It is a warrior cat game after all - How many character/"save" slots, ideally, would you like available? 3-4 - Which map [ The Forest Territories, The Lake Territories, SkyClan Territory, anything not listed you are interested in? ] would you like from the Warriors series to be in the game? Maybe you could make it so you can choose what map you want, Forest Lake or Skyclan, and then that takes you in. Accessible by travel might make it laggy. - What level of difficulty do you want? Servers set to normal, Easy and normal for single player and possibly something to be able to unlock hard mode - Should diseases and illnesses be lethal if untreated in the case of an illness/disease that is known to kill cats in the books? Should REAL diseases and illnesses be added into the game [ if so, medicine cats will be trained to treat these! ] ? Well, you should make it if you treat it, it can go away or it can just make you better. If you were sick for too long it would get kinda boring - Would you enjoy the ability to fight for and claim pieces of land, with your clan / led by your clan leader? Thank you tons for the feedback! On maps - That is a good point, butt I wouldn't worry too much. If accessible by travel, there would be a divide between the areas [ aka black void ] before the next map is loaded in. However, I absolutely am for pre-selected spawn locations for players to choose from! But maybe with limited slots when it comes to clans. Wouldn't want 70 in Thunderclan and just barely 13 in Windclan. Loners, rogues, and maybe kittypets wouldn't have a limit though - at least, not in my opinion. Limit would increase if the overall player amount has increased. On illness - If the illness is treated, I think it'd go away in hm.. Three days in-game? That would make it not so limiting, but still a thing you have to address. When it comes to cats who cannot receive treatment though, I think the ability for it to "just go away" should depend on the following: Health, age, environment, and the exact illness/disease. If you've got an elder in the cold mountains who isn't eating enough, surely, that would require it to be lethal or a veeery high chance of such. Elders and kits, would surely be the most vulnerable to death by illness. On trolls - I agree completely! When the game is up and running, you can expect staffers to keep an eye out for anyone breaking the rules to start with, and trolls will not be tolerated. I'm thinking of introducing a point-base skill system, to prevent the issue of god-like cats. If you wanna put all your points into strength/fighting ability, go ahead, but you'll be easy to cut as a piece of paper, for example.. I've been trying to brainstorm the exact skills I want available for players to put these points into, but haven't decided on any set in stone yet! I also think a parent cats' skills should effect how the kit is generated and spawned, for players joining the game that way.

I know I said later this week, but i'm really eager, so here's a sneak peak at a 64x64 cat portrait. It's basically a blank slate [ no fur detail, colour, standard ears and face shape, as well as eye shape ], but i thought yous might enjoy it until i get some of the actual sprites out. If you guys feel portraits might be better in 128x128, it's doable, but let me know if a 64x64 is too small. P.S. feel free to critique to this [ and other ] pixel art. This was a bit rushed and will definitely be improved upon, but I just got excited and wanted to share progress, although super minor progress. Also, think of this as an almost done blank slate for portraits; but not quite. Inner ear, whiskers, and a few minor facial details will be added, and I think the mouth needs some sort of improvement.

EDIT: TheDune I suggest you start with very basic pelts then get into more pelts cause this game will take time to get popular so you should wait until it become a huge demand for alot of markings and pelt colors

That's a good idea! But ideally, the game's popularity would pick up in unfinished stages, so I can add colours and markings before it is at full completion. But I'm sure there will always be room for more to be added during say.. Events, holidays, that sort of thing. Special updates.

A *few* sprites will be brushed up for release Sunday! It's nothing major but I hope everyone enjoys them! In the meantime, I've started on deciding eye colours nad fur colours by colour value. If anyone has suggestions, feel free to throw them in - but the lot of colours you'll see can be found here for eyes, and here for pelts. Availability will vary, if you're not a kittypet, likely quite a few options won't be available to you since they're definitely not a norm to find in strays or wild cats! But you'll still have tons of options - just not all!
