Yarrow drew his hand back from the handshake, and started to reach for his fork again before deciding he was done eating.
"My mother is Demeter. I've got a bit of a green thumb, I suppose," Yarrow began, giving an awkward thumbs up. "Honestly I... don't know much about... greek mythology and stuff. I wasn't really interested in my heritage, until I got in a close call with a monster. I'm a little worried I'm not cut out to be here..."
Henry seemed friendly enough, so Yarrow hoped they'd be able to become friends. The sooner Yarrow found people he could easily get along with, the easier camp would be.
Sanaa tilled her head at that. "Don't worry, we weren't taking your words the wrong way or anything," she assured her. "I can see how spending all your time here at the camp can be... suffocating, honestly."
"They should offer field trips," Joshua threw in jokingly, though there was some truth to his words. Camp really got boring. "At least around New York or something. Hana is right, being here all year is a bit meh." He barely knew anything outside of the camp, now that he thought about it.
Sanaa crossed her arms thoughtfully as they walked. "I wonder if something like that would be possible, though. Like, not the whole camp at once, of course, but small groups." It sounded fun, getting to spend time together with friends in the city.
"You gotta let me see it at some point!" Freya demanded, then stopped in front of the shed. She waved her arm in the general direction of it, then leaned against the side of it. "I found my weapon in there, too!" she added, seeming to glow with pride. "It's the best weapon ever, but I'm sure you'll find something almost as cool in there, too." Nothing could beat the scythe she had found, ever.

With a deep sigh of relief, Hana clasped her hands behind her back and continued walking. It occurred to her, though, that she didn't actually know what this so-called "field trip" meant. Sbe assumed it didn't mean taking a trip to a field, because that kinda sounded boring. From context clues, she assumed it just meant going on some kind of trip, like a quest, but not dangerous and more normal.
"Do you think Chiron would be okay with that, and be willing to arrange something?" Hana wondered out loud. She knew Mr. D wouldn't care if they went, but she also knew that he wouldn't bother to plan anything either. "I'm sure there are lots of things to see in the city..."
Hana thought about her mom, her only remaining family, who was too scarred and too scared to spend much time with Hana, particularly outside. Hana was certain if they went to a water park, at least, she'd be able to defend both of them. But mom was adamant they stay as safe as possible. Which to mom meant board games and tea parties at home.
She shook her head, as if to dispel her bitter thoughts, and glanced around at the others, curious about their input on whether a field trip would actually be possible.
“Don’t worry about it, most people don’t really know much about the Greek myths anyway, and even then they only recall popular stuff and people.” Henry shrugged a little, “When I first got here I knew absolutely nothing and I thought I ate some weird food and was seeing things.” He added with a small laugh, he was more of a kid then- but it wasn’t the first time he snagged a treat only to be seeing things later… that was only that one time that happened though. He took a bite of the pear he was eating and grateful to not eating cafeteria food or his mom’s cooking. His first days here had been a blur almost, but for the most recalled that it took him awhile to get a grasp of the Greek myths- specially in pronunciation of some of their names. The horrified look that one of the older campers gave when he accidentally said a name wrong. Nothing bad happened oddly enough, perhaps his dad found it funny at the time.
“Things don’t happen over night, it takes time to get use to things- especially here. Actually you’ll find a lot of unique people here and we’ve all had our low points too, so your not alone.”
“Sure thing, I’ll do it after I drop my bag off at the… Hermes Cabin.” Prue replied with a bit of a smile and it took her a minute to remember the cabin’s name but she managed. She opened up the shed door and was almost blown away by the amount that was in there. “Woah that’s a lot of weapons….” Yeah replacement or backup weapons for sure, but this shed was like a honey pot for everything. There were everything from tools- hammers, knives to staffs and bows. She started off by looking at weapons that would keep an opponent at bay or something that could be long distance. I don’t have much muscles yet… but with practice… she kept her mind focused on one goal which helped her not to lose hope on anything that seemed out of reach. Really this place was overwhelming at first, but she started to grow accustomed to it and she finally narrowed it down to one item. At first glance it seemed relatively simple, a glaive with a pure black staff topped off by a silver blade, the staff also had carvings etched into it. “I’ll take this one.”
Chevy finished hiding away her kazoo collection and for the most part unpacking important items. The smell of grapes from the cabin had a calming effect whenever she felt like she would be bouncing off the walls. There was still stuff she didn’t know or understand about her powers, did her abilities heighten her energy or was she just this way naturally? Regardless of either answer, she was fine with not knowing it. After all there wasn’t much fun in knowing everything- then it wouldn’t be a surprise. The Dionysus camper exited out from the cabin with a smile on her face, eager to face anything that came her way. - -
Nathan had been chilling for a little bit in the cabin after unpacking, not really in a rush as he wrote in a journal. He tried to write in it at least once a day, if not a week and journaling that day or that week’s events. His sister Daisy had suggested this to him before his first day of camp, it helped to keep his mind focused and overall it was fun to go back and reread the older passages. He finished what he was writing and put his most latest volume tucked away. Last thing he needed was to have a nosy camper finding it.
"Hmm...my favorite memory? I have too many to count, but i guess, it would be the memory of meeting all you and making friends here on the forums. :3" ”One day I’m going to sit down and make a list of all the books that I finished reading....” “It's going to be a long list...”

Yarrow couldn't help but smile a little, grateful to know it wasn't abnormal for him to be feeling so lost. Even if everything felt chaotic and confusing right now, knowing it got better for other campers gave Yarrow a bit of hope for himself. Perhaps he'd never be great with a sword or scythe, but slowly and surely he'd learn more and more.
"That's good to know, thank you," Yarrow said, eyeing the pear Henry was eating and wondering if there was perhaps an orchard here that Demeter kids attended to. Strangely enough, the thought of farming at camp was actually exciting for Yarrow.
"So... are they going to give us a tour of camp later or... do we just figure that out on our own?"
“Hehe, no problem.” Henry replied as he liked to help people out, okay maybe at times for personal gain- but hey, you gotta help the newbies right? Plus for the most part he knew all the ins and outs of camp, yeah thanks dad for being the god of messengers. “Sometimes, but most of the time you find a senior camper- like yours truly and they show you around and introduce you to our camp director Mr. D and the activities director Chiron.” He did a light joke to help keep the mood light, after all being a demigod wasn’t all doom and gloom, there had to be some balance.
“Yeah by the way… if you happen to be missing anything. First bet is on my cabin- we’re a bit notorious for uhh ‘acquiring’ things… and I kinda have it the worst ‘cus I tend to it without knowing…. So sorry in advance if anything happens.” Henry also gave out some helpful advice, at least he wanted Yarrow to get off to a good start at camp and he was hoping to become friends. He didn’t want to start off on the wrong foot by having stolen property on his person now would he? No, and Henry also wanted to make it clear that sometimes it wasn’t his fault… most of the time that is. Being a counselor is hard but ironically enough I’m the only one on the job right now
(So I totally didn’t forget how things worked lol)

The edge of Yarrow's mouth curled into a small smile as he pulled his pockets inside out and showed he didn't have anything to steal. "I'm a light packer, and unfortunately for your cabin I didn't bring anything of value with me. Maybe I'll be a better target next summer," he said jokingly.
Yarrow stood up, grabbing his dirty food tray to drop off. "Well... I hate to impose on you but if you have time to show me around a bit..."
“Well don’t say I didn’t warn ya then.” Henry laughed as even the most insignificant thing could be an item worth taking, as the saying goes ‘another man’s junk is another’s treasure’ but fir the most part it was in good fun… sometimes. “I’ll be happy to show you around! I can also introduce you to other campers as we go too.” He replied after he finished his quick meal. He often ate light and snacked or ‘grazed’ over much of the day anyway. There were a bunch of places to go first but starting off with the basics was always a good start. “Oh do you have a weapon by chance? Regardless I’ll show ya the Weapon’s shed, it has pretty much everything there and don’t worry about lugging around suspicious weapons either, the mist creates a glamour that makes a dangerous thing-“ he quickly took out his reversed dagger from its transformed state to show its battle form then revered it back into a pin. “Look like an everyday item.”

Yarrow stared, mouth open, in awe at the dagger that Henry had transformed into a pin. "Does... does everyone have weapons that can do that?" Yarrow asked, hoping he would be able to get one as well. The last thing he wanted to do was have to carry around a dagger in his pocket and get caught by someone who assumed he had bad intentions.
"I have a scythe, but it's more of a farming tool than anything..." Yarrow said, a bit sheepishly. He put his hand behind his head, letting out an awkward chuckle. "I brought it in case I couldn't get anything else, but if there are other options, I'd be grateful to take a look."
Idalia, who had been sitting in the cafeteria reading as she finished her breakfast, zoned into the conversation between the Hermes cabin leader Henry and one of the new kids. Henry was nice and all, but sometimes he could be a lot to handle.
Closing her book, she slipped it into her bag and slung her bag over her shoulder as she stood up. Walking over to where the boys were standing, she called out, "Hey Henry, corrupting the new kid already?" She gave a little wink to show it was light-hearted.
“Pretty much but the glamour is different, like it can be a sword and turn into a necklace or bracelet, really into anything modern looking.” Henry explained as he attached the pin back to his shirt next to the other pin, without any detailed knowledge one would think it’s just some fashion statement or something and not a dangerous weapon. “Sometimes campers like just one, some like two, whatever fits them the best. Your scythe can be glamoured to fit your needs too, really it’s up to you.” He said with a bit of a shrug, he preferred two weapons- his two daggers because it was his fighting style but he knew some that preferred one. The hermes camper nearly jumped when he heard his name called and turned to see Idalia.
“By the gods Idalia! You really know how to surprise someone.” Henry laughed it off but it was obvious that he hadn’t been expecting her, perhaps he was just in tune and talking with Yarrow that he forget about the other campers around them. “Nope, not at all, unless you count a warning on a certain cabin’s speciality.” He joked with him turning back to his new friend. “Yarrow meet Idalia, she’s from the Nemesis Cabin and its counselor- Idalia meet Yarrow, newbie to camp and son of Demeter.”
(✯~Rippleshadow~✯). (I fought auto correct, it kept putting ‘Italian’ for ‘idalia’ lol)

Yarrow's interest was piqued, hearing that magic could be applied to his scythe, or whatever, weapon, to suit his needs. He pondered briefly about what he'd like most for the glamor to make his weapon appear as, considering perhaps a pair of chopsticks, or some other food-related utensil, but was soon interrupted. A girl he didn't recognize had called out to them and was walking over.
He watched her mouth curl in amusement at Henry's comment, but her eyes looked soft and she seemed to be interfering with good intent rather than malice. Somehow, Yarrow felt more comfortable in her presence. He felt grateful to be surrounded by kind people... perhaps he didn't need to be so anxious about camp after all.
Idalia, who had also been watching the new kid carefully to gauge his reactions, thought he looked somewhat nervous. She remembered the feeling of being a new camper and all the insecurities that came with it. Hopefully she and Henry could provide some comfort and reassurance that everything would be okay.
"Nice to meet you, Yarrow," Idalia smiled, dipping her head in greeting, then turning a bit to face Henry. "And sorry, Henry, for surprising you," she added, with a slight hint of amusement in her voice. "I don't try, but I guess stealth is a strong suit of mine."
Idalia shifted the bag on her shoulder as the thought crossed her mind that maybe she shouldn't have barged in on their conversation and she was just being a burden, but she shrugged it away as quickly as she could. She had other things to worry about for now.
Yarrow nodded, and gave a small, short wave of his hand. "Nice to meet you too. Henry was just teaching me about weapons and glamor." He glanced at Henry and smiled gratefully.
“Apology accepted, no harm done.” Henry still had a grin on his face, it was kind of the trait of the Hermes cabin- a mischievous going in the eye or just a grin that could put the cat from Alice and wonderland out of business. His was more of a friendly one, nothing malicious to it and always had a joke- good or bad to come up with. He was grateful for Idalia to come on up, new campers always felt better with friendly faces and calm demeanors, or rather just someone that was kind enough to help another out and make things less confusing than they already were. “At least the basics of it and what it entails, once you kind of get a weapon- while it’s great to spar with other weapons- having someone with a similar weapon or fighting style helps in the beginning too.” A slight shrug at the end, some people learned differently but that was how he learned… granted housing a bunch of kids within the walls of the cabin practically bursting plus magical weapons and an attitude to cause mischief, he had to learn very quickly.
He was about to say something else but was cut off by a familiar yell of ‘PARTY SPAR’ from a certain Dionysus camper popping in and out view for a second. “You’ll meet everyone eventually here at camp, just a fair warning tho… try to stay away from those who are…. Very Excitable when it comes to sparring. That was Chevy, she means well but can go a bit crazy with her mallet.”
(✯~Rippleshadow~✯Henry and Idalia being the cool as cucumbers: You got this kid. Chevy runs past waving a mallet: Spar time! WHO wANTS TO FIGHT.)

Yarrow's eyes widened as he saw a girl recklessly waving around a huge mallet as she ran past the mess hall. Of course he knew there were going to be some wild people and wild times at camp, but he hoped he wouldn't get roped into those messes on the first day. Or the first week, preferably. He wanted things to be as mellow as possible until he got into the groove of things.
"Chevy, huh..." Yarrow mumbled softly, trying to stick the name in his brain so he'd know not to spar her until he had a bit more practice. "Anyone else I should avoid until I... get a little more practice in?"
He glanced between Henry and Idalia, hoping they'd have some advice.
Idalia gave a little shrug. "I'm not sure... Chevy is definitely the most energetic camper we have. Dionysis kids come in many flavors, but the ones you have to watch out for are the ones who believe in YOLO."
Idalia didn't personally have any qualms with Chevy - in fact, she loved how straightforward and honest the girl was about what she wanted. But she could understand how someone timid like Yarrow might want to take it easy for now.
"But I dunno. Henry, what do you think? Anyone else to stay away from in regards to sparring?" Idalia asked.
"We could try," Joshua suggested with a grin. "Worst he can say is no. Though... maybe we should be on our best behavior before we ask." He could see some of the campers... tipping anybody's decision to a no. So maybe if they all acted like well behaved kids for a bit, they could get through with it.
"Great, who's gonna make certain cabins disappear for a while while we do that?" Sanaa threw in jokingly, knowing exactly what Joshua meant. Regardless, it didn't sound like a bad idea. Some kinda field trip, that was. It would be fun to look around places with people from the camp, in her opinion.
Freya gave a shrug at that. "Looks fine to me," she said, still thinking that nothing could match her weapon, anyway. Seconds later, she jumped as she heard another voice, though.
"What are you doing here?"
Freya turned around quickly, trying to hide how she'd just gotten spooked. "Heya, Nick. I'm showing Prue around," she told the older camper, trying to play it all off. "She's new and all."
"Shouldn't you be bringing her to Chiron, in that case?" Nick asked her, raising his eyebrows. He seemed more amused than anything, though. He gave Prue a small wave as he spotted her.
"But... the stuff there is just sooo boring! I didn't want her to have to sit through all that!" Freya defended herself with a pout.

Hana covered her mouth, trying to hide her amused laughter. "We could try getting everyone to be on their best behavior... or we could hide the evidence of the bad behavior." She winked, showing she wasn't being serious. Or at least not fully serious. She was actually a little desperate. Hana could only hope she appeared less unhinged about being an odd member of society than she felt.
"In any case... I'll for sure behave. And try not to cause any accidents."
